sure, why not.

the food never made me sick, and i never saw anything to indicate the food product itself was tainted, or that the preparation and prep space was unsanitary.

More like "everything else" appeared to be unorganized and dirty. typically in a restaurant with limited manpower, things that get used regularly are taken care of and cleaned by necessity, and things that are not sit and collect dust/dirt/grime, etc. Especially in a small smokey place with lots cooking oil flying around in woks and whatnot.

I did like the food... and the entertainment while you waited. What a wacky place. Have to assume padlocked due to health code violations. Nothing in there looked particularly sanitary.

Will miss if gone, always an adventure stepping through those doors.

PATH to 9th street, short walk to Wogies.

Tried the "cheesesteak" special @ PArk&6th. Was weird. Essentially a sandwich sized small steak on a bun with fixings. Not your typical shaved/griddle'd offering. Love the spot, did not love that sandy.

I disagree

an interesting point.

so anyone that reviews this spot is doing so because of the momo connection? or just NY publications? and what's wrong with tracking a chef who makes a move from a "high profile" spot? isn't that the point of food journalism.

I guess the reporter hasn't eaten in NJ too often. I agree the food is good, but it's hardly the most amazing place in NJ. And why can't they review anything in NJ without some crack about our quality of life?

i don't think that was the intention at all. point is: can you compare this style of food to anything else in Jersey? I am not going to claim to know the answer, but i do know i have not seen it anywhere else. and that's not a slight... think about it: he is coming from the Momofuku team, which was a new style IN NY CITY not long ago. Should it be surprising that it is new in Jersey now?

Taylor is a brand, pork roll is the product.

There are other brands (not many these days), but Taylor is the biggest.

hey cory - schmaylor ham is our take on taylor ham. we had the folks over at the meat hook in brooklyn (http://the-meathook.com/) make it and we think they did a pretty awesome job (considering they're in new york city).

yeah it's pretty f'in good. would be interested to do a head to head comparison against some of the taylor products (or other purveyors of the mighty roll), to get a better sense of meathook actually did.

Anyway, can see that becoming a staple of my weekend diet.

had not really picked up on "no delivery sunday" before. so i just had my P&S craving negged. so my money goes to another establishment? Not sure I understand what the point is, unless they simply can not support the stress level in the kitchen two weekend days in a row... and prefer to make less money on the weekend. which is weird. As a small business you have three days to really kill it, all out: Friday/Sat/Sunday. would be interested to see why you would choose to bail on 'x' percentage of potential profit during that period.

Anyway, still love the place.

First meal there last night, and I have to agree somewhat with JSQ's assessment of the food:

1) NJ is the armpit of america
2) Jersey City is unsafe
3) Hoboken is sweet

seriously though:

1) Oysters - really nice maine jobbers, dug the beet puree addition.
2) Sweetbreads - what a combo: sweetbread nuggets, fried pickled jalepeno and BBQ dipping sauce? ultimate bar food. peppers had a nice kick.
Tartare - killer. excellent quality beef, subtly seasoned. i hope they serve that for brunch, would hit that with a plate of eggs any day. And the grilled bread was perfect too. sometimes it's the small things that really make a place. serving the right amount of good bread for that dish is overlooked at some spots.
3) Skate - in a world where skate seems to be on every menu, this did stand out. A light sweet dish with the crab/cabbage mix holding up a perfectly cooked (and portioned) piece of skate.
4) Cavatelli w/ chix liver sauce - Another dish i will be spending quality time with. Perfectly rich and creamy with nice al dente pasta. Randomly had Cavatelli at Colichio & Sons last week and it was garbage compared to this plate.

Anyway... people there are great, the space is roomy and comfortable, and with the BYOB in place, the dank beer flows like unfiltered sake.

Congrats to 30 Acres on the opening, an awesome addition to the neighborhood and JC food scene.

Only one sincere criticism: thei play list needs a much higher percentage of Hall & Oats in rotation. Only one track heard during my visit... ABSURD!

I don't think this will bring the right tone to the discussion, but I'll give my two cents.
I have been out of JC for 4 years now, still visiting friends a few times a year. My friends are decently well paid, so we usually spend nights in Manhattan, Hoboken, or, when really tired, in the area around Newport PATH station. I am still on the opinion that JC is a dormitory town, that very few people can hold jobs or have fun in the town, and that one must live in Newport if one wants to get home safely.

honestly, did anyone take this guy seriously after reading that intro? It just screams "I have no f'in clue what JC is about, I am a scenester".

Anyway, hard to kill the service in the first month. surely that will shake out eventually.

Was happy to see some actual food reviews, took long enough!

not only did I have the lime issue, but one time i bit into a taco and it was surrounded by a paper plate and foil!!!

Seriously though, the only thing better than their off menu lime taco is the radish taco. so good with a squeeze of chorizo.

I don't understand why people are continuing to support this business. I went one time a couple of years ago and after I bit into a whole slice of lime (rind included) in my rolled taco, I never went back. Maybe that's authentic Mexican and I'm a gringo American but that's pretty unappealing to me. If you're getting abused, can the food really be good enough to patronize this place?

Best post on this thread by far, lol.

They must have accidentally given you the lime taco... definitely an acquired taste.

there are five upscale Asian restaurants within a five block radius and various other ones in delivery range

"upscale"?

grand schezuan (chinese), komegashi (japanese), Nha Trang (Vietnamese) are all great, but hardly "upscale" everything else in the area is marginal (or standard) at best.

"local ingredients, seasonal menu" is what they are going for. If the quality and menu are anything close to Momofuku we will be blessed. Check out their menus, it's not really "asian", more like variations on asian combinations.

(Just had the roast duck ssam at momofuku ssam... so good)
