I don't have an answer to how landlords will deal with it, but property owners in general should expect a dip in their property values to "even-out" the difference. (Example a house worth $500,000 and $10,000 annual taxes might now be worth $480,000 if they're facing $25,000 taxes. Don't get bent out of shape over the numbers, I just pulled them out of the air.)

Flu shot at Target?

---|---|---|---|---|

I'm reading online that flu shots are available at CVS/Target locations. Has anyone done that at our local downtown Target who can give positive (or negative) feedback? It's apparently just walk-in which is so much easier than making a doctor's appointment and waiting to be seen. Also is it truly free?

Am I understanding this correctly: Move 14C tolls to the CC drive exit. Add a new toll on the turnpike east of CC Drive (say, 14D) Anyone who enters HT within x minutes of exiting 14A, B, or C gets charged (significantly) more than the person who goes from 14D to HT? If so, I like it. Only thing I don't like is TPK would get that $ rather than JC.

I'm not sure if/how it could work either. The Leonia one seems to limit on "residential streets". I'd love to see this where cars are limited to Columbus, Grand, Marin, etc. and not permitted on Monmouth and Erie. That's where the real nightmares are. But I'm not holding my breath.

We've had no mail delivery since 1/4. Snowstorm was 1/4 so I gave a pass for that, but two days since?! I'm not just saying we didn't get any mail, the carrier literally hasn't been by. Harsimus Cove. Any other blocks with this problem?

Quick Check has free air. I don't know of one in JC but sometimes when I'm on the road I just check on the air when I pass a QC because of this.
The Hess by Best Buy used to have free air. Do they not anymore? I feel like I used it within the past 6 months?

Don't assume that your package was "stolen" (in the traditional sense) if it's not there. Saturday FedEx marked a package of mine as delivered. I was home all day, basically watching and listening for the delivery and generally in sight line of my front window, and a FedEx truck never even came down my street. Maybe FedEx misdelivered, maybe FedEx is in on the scam.

Maybe I've missed something, but it seems neither has done much of any campaigning since the November elections. Canvassing, yes. But making a new/enhanced/more specific case for voting for them - I haven't seen a thing.
If I did miss something (not counting the video interview in the prior post) please let me know.

I don't know about the women with the shopping cart, but this isn't new. Fortunately all merchants have replaced items. Every single time a delivery person leaves a package unattended CALL the merchant AND the carrier to complain. Amazon delivery once left a shipment of electronics on my steps. Genius.

it is of course private property, but who knows maybe the property owner doesn't care. Reminds me of the time back when Trump Tower only had the first building up and locals walked their dog on the land that was not yet developed. When the developer came in to build the 2nd tower, the dog walkers LOST. THEIR. MINDS. that "THEIR" grass (meaning grass that nobody had kicked them off of for a few years) was now being built up.
Eye roll.

It's also worth noting that not only is it outside the law to give special powers to a community group, but it's also not allowed to force a developer to even go to their meetings and present to the group. Of course most developed play along because it's not a big ask, and/or its easier than fighting at the Board hearing. But, one day a developer is bound to say "you can't make me," and threaten a lawsuit over it.

Symes / Solomon runoff
|
||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Home away from home
|
We are facing a Symes/Solomon runoff. I think at this time each candidate needs to clarify some of their platforms. I have one major question for each.
1. Symes A major component of Symes' platform is the empowerment of community groups in the development approval process. State statute (NJSA 45:55) does not grant community groups this power. (NYC does, which admittedly confuses people.) Jersey City is well aware that this is not permitted, and in fact in the one or two areas of town which suggest this is required (e.g. morris canal) both the City and community groups have acknowledged that they're "getting away with it" until a developer sues. How, then, does Symes intend to use her position to change a state law? Much of her platform has been on this, and I feel that she's making a promise to community groups that she simply has zero control over. 2. Solomon Solomon has had significant NIMBY undertones throughout his campaign. Notably, as it related to a project on the West Side (which obviously isn't even in Ward E), suggesting that neighbors should have a greater say in how a property is developed. (Relates to Symes, above.) This even hinted at having a choice as to who would move in next door (in this case there was talk of marketing a development to the jewish community which did face some resistance). How does he reconcile this with his claims of being welcoming to all and "progressive"? To what extent is a community entitled to impinge on the as-right development of private property? (Hint: the law already answered that.)

I actually have substantive reasons for not voting for Solomon, but if I didn't, I still wouldn't vote for him based on the amount of junk mail he's sent. A mailer once a week, perhaps twice in the week before elections is reasonable. But what a waste of paper, of trees... it's litter in my mailbox at this point.

I guess it all depends on the judge, because I got a ticket for parking too close to an intersection, and it took about 30 seconds and 1 photograph for her to dismiss the case. It was, dare I say, a pleasant experience.

Where can one get a fast (10 minute style) oil change in JC? Not looking for a place where I have to make an appointment, just one of those drive-up businesses.
I found a place online - Flash Lube on Summit Ave - are they any good?
