Ask to see Fred, the security guy at Shop Rite and he'll help you with surveillance footage.

There are currently signs posted all over telephone poles and in the lobbies of buildings on Duncan, Fairview, Fairmont and JFK regarding a group of people who are photographing and filming people who are not picking up the poop. Their letters are a little on the ridiculous side (such as asking owners to only allow dogs to pee in the street and not in the grass or on tree stumps and sidewalks) but they claim that they will be forwarding their photos and videos to the police.

I placed a strand of bags in the alley way between 4th and 5th off of Jersey Ave last week and a considerable amount of them have been used and I'm stepping in less poop on my way home from the garage (plus my dog is finding less things to stop and sniff.) Hopefully this will make a few people who live in the ground level apartments in the alley a little happier.

UPDATE -- Took the pigeon to the Raptor Trust. Very friendly volunteer did the intake. We left the pigeon in their care. She might not make it, but we are hopeful.

To anyone who is interested, pay them a visit some day. Very friendly and welcoming, and their care and compassion for birds is quite evident.

Robin, we chose not to call Animal Control, as we have heard too many horror stories, and didn't want to wait around in the off-chance that someone may, or may not, come by.

raptor trust is great! had you called animal control today the bird would have gone to the vet first then to raptor trust.

those dna tests can also be pretty bogus. check out some of the tests done on purebred animals. my dog's results came back as boston terrier/bulldog dominant with jack russell and saint bernard somewhere down the line. i'd love to buy it. i can see why your dog may have been mislabeled, but then again i've seen some dogs on petfinder labeled as "labrador mixes" when they are basically tan or all black pit bulls and show not a single lab trait aside from color.

The simple reason why the Pit-Bull tops the cdc's list of top dangerous dogs lists, is that every unidentifiable mutt is classified a pit for the dramatic effect I've had so-called experts at LHS and other places get the id of dogs so totally wrong. I don't even own a pit. I thought I did, but a DNA test proved otherwise. Stop beating on the breed and start beating on the owners please.

I believe that's for catering. This has been my family's favorite restaurant for many years and we have had many parties in their back room. Kids always ate free when it was a catered event but never for regular dining. Hope that helps.

Another reason people probably refrain from picking up their dog's poop, is the fact that there are hardly any public trashcans in Jersey City. I have been told by my landlord to NOT use our outdoor trashcans to dispose of my dog's poop bags (though I pay to live there). It is such a pain having to walk an extra few blocks to find a public trashcan late at night, when it is raining, when I am running late for work, etc. And, yes, I have brought this issue up with the city who could care less.

I really believe more public trashcans would help our rampant dog poop issue.

AGREED! i carry the poop bag home after parking my car and walking my dog home from the garage. it's only a block walk but if we had some cans on jersey ave that would help the people who actually pick up the poop (and throw their chip bags/pizza plates away.

Kudos to the person who put a bag holder in the alley way between 4th & 4th/ Jersey & Coles. I will be filling it with fresh bags today. Nothing is worse than walking home from your garage late night and stepping in a soggy load.

I wish there was an alternative option to Torico's in town. They are way overpriced and super stingy on their cones. Ever have one of their milkshakes? Its pretty much 90% milk and 10% ice cream. Runniest shake I've ever had.

for many years i scooped ice cream and made cakes at magic fountain on the boulevard (which originally was a carvel.) an ice cream shop opened on india square (kwality ice cream i believe) and knocked us right out of business. everything we did was homemade so going to torico's reminds me of those days, just a bit pricier.

there's still amourville on central ave in the heights, but they seem to be more cake oriented than cones/shakes.

go to 595 newark ave with proof of the condo being paid off and all of your paperwork. i think they are on the first floor, room 104 maybe? i used to do deeds but only for the sheriff, so i'm not that informative on it but i used to have to send people upstairs all the time for non-foreclosure deeds.

i don't see much poop on 4th where i am but i see tons of it on jersey ave, and especially in the alley ways between jersey and coles where the parking garages are. so not cool having to pull your car out at night and stepping in a load.

I'd like to give an award to the person who pulled up behind me while I was unloading pieces of a large ikea book case into my hallway. I got back in the car, drove around the block to continue and they came behind me again as if there were going to be magical parking spots emptying out. Common sense people, there's nowhere to park. It took 5 trips around the block to get everything inside and then another hour to find a parking spot.

Re: Car Accident on 3rd & Erie - - Be Careful!

i just spent almost the whole day driving in this mess all over jersey city taking care of my pet sitting clients who had their flights delayed until tomorrow evening....if you must go out, take the main streets that are clean:

newark ave
montgomery st.
grand/communipaw ave.
jfk boulevard
central ave
palisade ave

west side ave and all of the greenville side streets were a death trap.

erie i didn't even bother.

i'm up on tonnele right now, staying for the night and that was a mess just getting to canco lofts.

baldwin ave/webster was very slippery and people were generally not courteous of us slow drivers who actually want to keep our cars.

hopefully it's cleaned up by the morning. drive safe everyone!!!

Re: My car was stolen on Van Vorst St. in Paulus Hook
Home away from home

most of my friends who had their cars stolen in jersey city eventually found them after they were repeatedly ticketed and booted. since it's a honda, your chances of getting it back with all of the expensive parts may be slim, but keep an eye out on pine st. and monitor st. in bergen lafayette. those were the streets a few friends cars were found on. also, keep calling the municipal court to see if any tickets have found their way onto your dashboard. they can probably help you out with the location of where it was ticketed if that's the case.

good luck to you. i've had all of my cars broken into but never stolen. i couldn't even imagine what it's like not knowing where your car is.

Maybe a slight tangent....but I thought worth sharing.

We recently got a dog and I must say I am SHOCKED by how expensive the dog poo pickup bags are. I got my first set at Canis Minor, but even PetSmart ones aren't that cheap. After 20 minutes of searching, I found a "janitorial supplies" website and was able to order a set of 2,000 small trashbags for $16 (compared to 240 for $16 on Petsmart.com) That is savings of about $130. I'll let you guys know if they are sturdy enough or if I just threw away $16...

i buy bulk packs of them at walmart sometimes...a little cheaper. also, those bags that the newspapers and ads that conveniently end up the porch work well too. i use my shopping bags to scoop the cat litter, but i don't really like using them to pick up dog poop since they tend to have holes from transporting the bags and items that poke through them.

why don't they cut some of the "ranks" out of the parking authority? is there a need for these guys to be riding in brand new suv's while boasting captain, lieutenant, sergeant, and officer ranks?

there is no reason these "officers" need these large and expensive vehicles when they are are only writing tickets and putting boots on cars. if anything, shouldn't they be riding in smart cars and scooters?
