We recently renovated our unit, was told by our contractor that we needed to put in hard wired detectors, when the final inspection JC guy from the building dept showed up, that was all he really looked at. I hate them.

A bit off point but for interest, we took a Uber XL as we had massive luggage from EWR to Grove Street area this past Sunday night, it was about 29$ and like 4AM when we landed, it took the driver about 10 minutes to get to EWR. It was perfect, no beef with any of it.

My old, tired, ugly but runs great car needs some decent used snow tires. We used to go out to Northern Blvd in Queens where there are countless tire shops, can anyone recommend someone in JC? I would want them mounted, etc.

Make up some BS to your landlord...tell him "some old nearby neighbors" said a fire/building inspector showed up and didn't like the burnt out bulbs that they had and said they should be professionally installed. It's not like a screw in lamp bulb..tell your landlord you just wanted to double check with him that he's okay with you doing it. Make it sound like you're doing him a favor. He'll hop right over.

ONLY went there once to order a take out. Sat at the bar waiting forever, placed order with the bartender as there was no front desk person. After that, all the employees instantly started staring at their smart phones. After a while, a bag of food was put on the front desk. When I asked if it was mine I got an "I don't know". I flagged down a waiter and he said he would "go check", but he also was busy on his phone. After several minutes the bartender said "oh, i guess that is your food". I said "It's been sitting there forever, it's ice cold by now"...you can guess the rest..never went back.

DEVELOPER TROLL goes crazy in our Village Neighborhood
Just can't stay away

I think I sat next to this guy at a meeting. He wants to stuff $$$$ in his pockets while building huge structures on our tiny narrow streets, block everyone from light and air, then go back to his mcmansion in the burbs. And yes, I own in the Village.

Re: Help with homeowners building permit plans

Please let us know how this works out for you. I recently got a building permit for our small row house condo and I did have to have the plans professionally done, provide 2 sets to the Building Department and have them stamped. My project is a bit bigger than yours, but I will be interested in who you hire and how it goes. Good luck!

HOW wide is the street? My understanding is the height of the building is supposed to be based on the width of the street. Also, take another 6 feet for the height of the building for flooding. Will the developer be putting things on the roof of the new building also?
How high are the ceilings in the new structure, and how much space are they allowing between the floors?( I think it's about 1 and a half feet, not sure)
Is blocking your balcony a fire hazard or anything?
Sound?

Running a natural gas line from my condo building to my private backyard/deck
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

We just purchased a condo with a private backyard/deck in downtown JC, has anyone ever ran a private natural gas line for BBQ, etc? We BBQ year round several times a week. Does a gas line have to be underground, or can it come under the deck into the back yard? The CC&R really doesn't say anything, this is an old rowhouse. Thank you.
