Could it be that there might have been one fight? Sure. Could there have been some trash found on the ground? Probably. However, given the over-reaction to what amounts to a wad of complaints that really are just down to "I don't want brown people around me"... well, you're full of it.

I wouldn't rely on an honest review from someone who just wants her own face plastered everywhere regardless of whatever is being promoted. She never writes anything negative because she just wants publicity for her blog and jc events/businesses are just the fodder she uses to promote herself with.

Isn't that what any entertainment/culture blog would be like? Or should everyone be negative keyboard warriors like you?

Re: Fulop to solicit proposals from for-profit companies to replace FOL in running the Loew’s

While I normally come to this site for comedy/entertainment (see:Yvonne Balcer rants), as someone who actually works in the industry of music venues and has directly restored multiple venues in NYC, I can tell you as a matter of fact that the FOL cannot restore the Loew's theater with this grant, and they never will on their own. Despite what Yvonne and the rest of the Mayor's devout haters believe, there are two factors here which simply cannot be ignored:

1. It will take a multi-million dollar investment to restore the theatre.
2. It will take a national booking agency to be able to maintain a schedule that will effectively maintain the theatre post-renovation.

FOL cannot obtain either of these

1. As you can see from their fundraising since their existence, the Loew's will never be restored fully under their watch. It will take an upfront multi-million dollar commitment to do so, which FOL are simply incapable of achieving.

2. Maintaining the theatre will require a regular schedule of national acts and to put it simply, people in the seats buying concessions. The music industry has changed vastly, and nowadays any serious bigvenue must align with a major booking agency or have incredible pull. Without that, you will have the 2-4 concerts a year that the FOL are able to book. I can tell you they do not have anyone in their ranks who will bring people to the theatre with any regularity.

Simply put, the FOL played a very important purpose in the past, but there is absolutely no conceivable way they can restore the theatre or keep it even marginally occupied going forward, short of some divine intervention. I'm sure haters will contest these facts, but what I would ask is, what is your experience in this field?

Actually the problem is that people are offering evidence to disprove of your theories and yet you continue to stick to it. Grove Street, a much more direct route to NJMC I would think, was closed this weekend between Montgomery and Mercer. I doubt there were any problems getting to the hospital as a result.

The bigger overall curiosity for me is that you've made countless different arguments in various threads over the past weeks. A sample based on what I remember:

- The plaza was illegally created (opened before a vote)
- Bad for businesses on the street/favors certain businesses
- In violation of handicap laws/makes it harder for handicapped people to get to the doctors on the street
- Makes it harder to get to the medical center

And countless others I'm sure - you just added the "was Ward C asked?" argument to this thread as well.

All of your arguments have been debunked throughout, but you continue to find other issues.

So again, I ask you - why do you have such a strange obsession with this? Are you one of the few people who actually thought it was a good idea to drive all the way down Newark Ave? Are you personally upset with Fulop and just attack everything he does? Are you just afraid of change?

In my opinion, your last two sentences are pretty spot on. Yvonne is generally against everything/anything the Mayor does, and while her obsession with him is quite evident, this issue seems to have taken on particular importance to her.

Of course, those of us who frequent this miniscule pedestrian plaza are well aware that there is no traffic backup caused by it, and the notion that those in Ward C would be impacted at all by it is laughable.

Unfortunately, obsession mixed with borderline dementia means this person will never get to enjoy this open space. I suggest Yvonne, Fletcher, Dan Levin, et als. protest at the pedestrian plaza to get their point across, but I doubt we'll see them yelling at little kids and families there.

Seriously, WTF are you talking about? Having spent time in just about every city in this country and most notable cities outside of the US, JC is about as good as they come for people like you who want more accessibility for cars. Especially in comparable mid-size cities in this country, where there is a much stronger push towards becoming pedestrian-friendly.

But please, enlighten us- if "only in JC" is there a government pushing for more pedestrian-friendly areas, what cities can you cite where they are not making more bike/pedestrian areas, and are encouraging more drivers? Please name one.

There was no traffic by Newark and Erie Streets all day into the evening, according to the police officer assigned to patrol the street and direct cars if need be, so anything happening up the hill by the court house was utterly unrelated to this. We all know that Yvonne is obsessed with the Mayor and must automatically be against everything he does, and we all know she thinks any change in Jersey City is bad, and we all know she is dealing with mild dementia, but when she says people have to walk 10-16 blocks to find a parking lot/garage, where the F is she referring to? Where downtown does it require a 10 block walk to hit one single parking lot or garage?

It's funny because Yvonne has really been reaching to find "issues" over the past year or so, and while obviously failing miserably (remember that crappy video she made about the travesty of cabs parking around the corner?), this really boggles my mind. So the City should focus on building parking lots now? Really? Seriously, try to enjoy your twilight years instead of being the angry old person yelling at everyone to get off their lawn.

When I read this, I had a great laugh, it reminds me of my early teaching career while speaking on President Washington, an innocent young child asked me if I knew President Washington, I was barely out of my 20s then. She had no sense of history. Returning to the subject, we old timers did not dismantle trolley lines, or even the bath houses or the train lines that went to the Jersey Shore, that happened before we were born. So what did we do, we increase the value of properties. A typical brownstone was $10,000 in the 1970s, before the 1988 reval, homes were selling between $150,000 to $300,000. We stopped Colgate for destroying historic buildings, created the historic districts, sought grants for Van Vorst and Hamilton Parks. We pushed for handicapped curbs. We fought against polluters who used our vacant land as dumping grounds for toxics and fought for floods control issues. We were successful on some issues but not others. By the mid 1980, Colgate said their land was too valuable because home prices were raising and decided to develop, they never asked for an abatement, just letting you know. We started the development, not the mayor. He moved into a luxury condo in his early 20s instead of a toxic waste land. Give credit where credit is due.

What I ask the crazy lady and her cohorts- is Dr. Chinai the ONLY DOCTOR in Jersey City? Are there literally no other doctors so all elderly/handicapped/disabled must go to Dr Ronak Chinai? Oh please. I've been to the clinic he runs. And also, there is an entrance on Columbus where your loved cars still rule the road. So there IS a place for this doctor's office to have people dropped off.

The truth is Fulop gives out abatements as mayor but attacked those abatements as councilman plus giving more tax abatement years than Healy ever did. He bonded for terminal leave but attacked Healy for the same thing. Fulop attacked Healy for hiring outside the city but he is doing the same thing. Actually, the link YOU posted is about the hiring of a deputy mayor who is a resident of Jersey City, nothing regarding the diatribe above.

Also, I am sure you are aware Councilman Fulop proposed moving the election to November way before he was Mayor Fulop, as it is rather obsurd for the city to spend so much money holding so many different elections when they can be consolidated.
