Oddly enough he said takeout will not be allowed initially. It will be dine-in only. Not sure how he's going to do it. He mentioned putting seats outside in the warmer months.

Where on Eerie is that house located? Does anyone know how large it is or in what kind of condition it was in?

The WSJ has an article today:

Of note:

"They're pushing tenant occupancy over homeownership," said John Taylor, chief executive of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, a Washington-based consumer-advocacy group. "Having someone guarantee that renters will be there for a long time depresses values and makes it much harder for people to recoup lost equity and stabilize neighborhoods."

Interesting article. Also of note:

"Defenders of outside investment groups say they help markets get healthy. "Investors are a huge benefit to the market in that they help work off that excess inventory through transferring them to rentals while owner-occupant demand rebuilds," said Doug Duncan, chief economist for Fannie Mae."

SHRhia, why would you assume that somebody would automatically prefer to live on NYC over JC if they could afford it?

Many if not most people I know in JC can afford to live in Manhattan.

Agreed. It's such a short sighted proposition. Many could live in Brooklyn or Hoboken as well.

Jersey City is not an international city but it's literally 5 minutes from one on public transportation that affords individuals certain benefits that those individuals cannot obtain living elsewhere, whether it's bc of cost, quality of life, space, location, maintenance of 1+ cars, etc.

It's a combo of factors.

Roman Nose is double the size and good, but not as good as Razza in my opinion.

The pizza at Abbondanza is quite good as well.

The one time I tried Rustique it was not good. It was 2 years ago... Perhaps before mgmt change.

The place in Paulus Hook can be hit or miss but when it hits it's great.

RE pros: rates are very low, Australian Fund buying, JC very cheap compared to NYC/Bklyn, low inventory, Buy vs Rent favoring Buy, people still want to live in cities,

I think the correct statement would be that more and more people want to live in cities, not "people still want to live in cities". People are not flocking to suburban areas at the same pace as they used to. Just look at Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens...I'm sure you would find that the same people who are buying throughout various neighborhoods in those boroughs are the offspring of families who fled those neighborhoods many years ago.

Obviously there is a lot of foreign investment as well, but the NYC metro area is an international hub and prices are comparitively inexpensive. If you do a simple P/E ratio on real estate, especially in JC and compare it to other large cities throughout the world, you would see that it's quite good. Hence the Aussies and many, many other foreigners snatching up real estate.

You didn't state whether or not you're actually looking at 700 Grove or Zephyr as places to buy, but if so - or anywhere for that matter - make sure you do plenty of research. See the following: http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... esidents_of_downtown.html.

Should they give you bread and butter for free?! How much would you like to pay? $2.75...$3.50? Who orders bread and butter at a pizza resto anyway.

People complain about the dumbest sh*t.

Building only suffered damages to elevators. All 4 elevators were out for 5 days or so. I think they slowly rolled out the elevators as they fixed them. No other damages that I know.

This is the joy of living downtown in a city. Noise, pollution, and night life (boobs) are just part of the downtown experience.

Enjoy it.

Where is there a Hooters or Tilted Kilt in downtown NYC?

Who mentioned "noise, pollution, or night life"?

I am complaining about a tacky, cheesy chain establishment.

See JaddedJC's post if you need to help in further comprehending the basis of why there might be complaints.

Agreed. Thank you. I could see the side of the road in Paramus on Rt. 17 as also being another ideal location.

Agree 100% about the attitude. I don't think there's anything spectacular about the food. The falafel balls are very good, that's about it and it doesn't take much to make a good falafel.

I've got to imagine the attitude has a noticeable impact on their bottom line.

rycor, just sent you a PM. First time doing it so not sure how reliable it is or how it notifies you. If you have any updates on LH power, please post or send me a PM.

Also, if you find any info on volunteer efforts.

Many thanks.

I've eaten here twice and probably tried every pie. The food is delicious. The wine list is small, but solid.

Something that I think speaks to the quality of the ingredients they're using and creative culinary confidence is their pumpkin pie pizza. Personally, I don't typically liked pumpkin flavored foods, but somehow they managed to make a delicious pumpkin pie pizza.

This place would be a welcome addition to any neighborhood - glad they're in Jersey City.

There was a break-in in a brownstone walk-up in Liberty Harbor about 1.5 months ago on Tidewater, just off of Grand. Broad daylight. The perp kicked in the front door and snatched what he could. The cameras throughout the development caught everything and he was caught days later.

Thought it would go with the theme of this thread in case that also wasn't reported.

Could be "crusty punks" who are ever so prevalent in the east village. These are not "hippies". More like squatters, some of which are involved in low level crime and general neighborhood degradation.
