Re: Nail Salons of Jersey City!

It's the same story with a lot of businesses around here, minus the nail chemicals, "Asian Food" on 440, the back half of most of the restaurants in town, most contractors, particularly Dixon Leasing. The state just turns a blind eye towards most of it.

Foreign/corporate/non-resident ownership means foreign/corporate/non-resident profit. Keep the real estate money in Jersey City and we will all benefit.

We need to enact a 100% tax on non-resident property sales in Jersey City. The Australians, Chinese and other foreign investors are making it impossible for young families to buy anything in JC.

Somebody in another thread wrote, "The stretch of Route 1 between Edison and Princeton is littered with chain restaurants of the "casual dining" variety. I have driven through that stretch a few times over the past two weeks, and I always have the same reaction: it looks like every other nondescript suburban area all over middle America."

Do you want Jersey City to look like every other nondescript suburban area in America?

Good job Jersey Journal / Terrence T. McDonald for staying on top of this!

Here are the GPS records of his government vehicle. Anybody recognize any of the locations? I see a couple 3am stops at Hollywood Fried Chicken.

Chico is definitely dirty, dirty, dirty. Is he dealing drugs, whoring, or something worse?

The guys in the motorcycle squad did seem to be a bunch of juiced-up a-holes. It's good that they disbanded it. However, there is a real need for cops on 2 wheels that can quickly get to emergencies in gridlock. The squad should be restarted, but on scooters or on electric motorcycles. There's no need for the big bikes other than for show.

Very disgusting to do such a thing. Also, the synthetic grass they want to put in doesn't provide oxygen, the most beneficial part of a park.

RIP Cinnamon Snail

http://gothamist.com/2015/02/14/rip_cinnamon_snail_truck.php

"At the end of this month, on February 28th, our permit expires, and there is not a new one available to us. I have thoroughly explored every possible way to continue having our truck(s) on the streets, but it's time for a change for us.

Running food trucks is a very problem ridden business model. Much as I have absolutely loved being able to do it, running the Cinnamon Snail been emotionally and physically exhausting for me and my family.

As many of you know, over the years we have had every type of emergency, from generators catching fire, engines needing to be replaced, to police harassment, parking problems, and being chased off by other food trucks and restaurants. That says nothing of the endless logistical complications of running a food truck year round, things you wouldn't think of, like preventing our plumbing from freezing at night, which prevents us from having working hand sinks and forcing us to take the day to have all our pipes replaced. We have dealt with all the obstacles that have been thrown our way, but there is no light at the end of the tunnel, where running a food truck will be without these types of issues that make the business very difficult to be profitable in.

There is a misconception about food trucks, that we have very low overhead. Like any restaurant, we do in fact pay very high rent on our kitchen, where we prepare everything that we use on the truck from our donuts, to sauces and condiments. But in addition to a restaurant, any little mechanical problem on our truck, can cost us days on the street, and sometimes result in us having to throw out or give away thousands of dollars of food. We face every problem a regular brick and mortar restaurant deals with, plus many more problems that are unique to food truck life."

I hope the Historic Commission keeps a vigilant watch. There's a long history of muslims (and other religions) destroying the artifacts of those they don't agree with. The building is part of our cultural heritage and should not be defaced. They can build their own iconic building if they don't like their current location.

One more thing to consider. Food trucks don't get to sell alcohol. It's hard to make a profit when you can't sell something that requires almost no preparation at 5x it's cost.

Personally I hope Bistro does go out of business, or they at least sell the place to someone who actually respects the community.

Two boots just needs to STFU and keep to their pizza and beer.

Bistro only gets 2.5 stars on yelp:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-bistro-at ... y-city?sort_by=rating_asc

Boots does better with 3.5, but still has its share of problems:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/two-boots-jersey-city-2?sort_by=rating_asc

maybe they should both focus more on customer satisfaction and less on their competitors.
