Re: Miso Ramen

I only tried it once and enjoyed the tonkotsu ramen with pork belly. Have lived in tokyo so i know how ramen should taste. The broth tasted rich. The topping was actually generous and large for japanese standards. It is a little fatty for my taste but that's where the flavor is :) They should consider charring the pork belly skin a little bit for more flavor. The ramen was their own house brand, it was ok but i think slightly overcooked so it lacked the chew. I'm limiting further comments until I try it a few more times as I really like to see this place succeed. The other poster about Komegashi is right. The ramen there is fine. Not the same level of intense tonkotsu (pork bone flavor) but totally acceptable.

Liberty Prime, Satis, would also be relatively good, quiet, intimate options.

Why give a tax break at all? I bet they would still build without one. Downtown JC is hot.

The PATH trains i find pretty reliable. I use the railbandit app. As for the buses, i don't take NJ buses but on each stop sign there is a phone number to call to let you know the next bus... has anyone tried it? How reliable?

If it is an interim passageway, makes no sense to open one up for another winter as we've made do for so long already....more bonus money for the PATH officials i guess

But here is the real gem buried in the story: "By fall of next year, two new PATH train platforms are to be in service, in addition to those already used by commuters. Finally, the mezzanine above the platforms, which is linked to the Oculus by a grand staircase, is to be finished by the end of next year. The authority has abandoned its plan to open an interim passageway through the Oculus."

Another example of fine communication from the PA. Can't wait for another winter of trudging across the WTC site in the snow.

I'm sympathetic to the girl. She must have been frightened, but I don't think the cabbie was trying to sell her as a sex slave or anything. That's a pretty outrageous claim. Did she tape the conversation? What proof does she have?

I'm sad to see them leave. They were pioneers before most other restaurants moved in. They really helped spearhead the food scene in JC. I hope their move to the pacific northwest wasn't the lack for business and more for personal reasons.

I used to live around Union Square and the noise would rise up from the crowds into the surrounding buildings. I now live near city hall and it's rife with parties, demonstrations and parades. The noise does bother me a bit but it is not that awful -no more than 4 or 5 hours. I can put up with it because i chose to live here. I feel if it disrupts your sleep pattern, then you should complain but otherwise, i would just either leave home for a few hours away from the noise or join in the festivities. Noise comes with urban living.

Well, it will be a true urban view... being able to look into your neighbor's and see what they are reading or watching on tv.

There's not much of a view currently as half the North side units look directly into the back of the Waldo lofts building on 2nd street (this really sucks for whoever bought in that building by the way). That little 50 foot wide cavern they're creating between the buildings on that block is really horrendous. I don't care what the amenities are like or how fancy the appliances are, I couldn't imagine paying 700k to live in a box with no natural light and a direct view into the back end of another building. People complain about the lack of parking and the proliferation of gigantic towers throughout the city but to me, this block is the worst example of planning/zoning gone awry.

That is a lot for a studio/1 bedroom! I don't think that building has any view to speak of.

south house won't attract "fat, unhealthy people" any more than panera bread will attract skinny people. it will, however, probably continue to attract young people because it's a big, nice bar that is open late.

I think Beacon provides good value and great views but i'd probably want to talk to some residents and ask about noise, management company response time, shuttle services, safety/security etc... Looking at their online reviews (only for the rental portion), i'd investigate a bit more before purchasing/renting.

Actually the new More restaurant has removed the entire japanese menu and only added some new dishes (I.e., sliders). I guess "something" for everyone, but for me, More is actually "Less". Tried Pok Pok in red hook recently and was super impressed. Wished we had something similar in this side of the Hudson.

Is it asking too much for the construction crew to indicate when they are closing the ramp? I generally find that the ramp is closed after 9 am weekdays.

I really hope you find Monty.

This is the same reason why i leave my windows shut or maybe a 1" crack. I once saw my cat sitting on the ledge nonchalantly and when I moved closer to him, someone (house guest) had lifted the entire screen up so no barrier existed. If the cat jumped, it would have been 5 floors....

Nice gesture to give to others In need ;)

however, Unless it is sealed and unwrapped with a visible expiration date, I doubt even a soup kitchen or animal shelter would take it. Not worth risk getting others sick.

Two purse-snatching teens who injured elderly woman arrested: officials
BY BARRY PADDOCK NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Friday, April 17, 2015, 8:57 PM

A pair of heartless teens who snatched an 80-year-old woman?s purse in the West Village ? causing her to fall to the ground and injure her leg ? have been arrested, authorities said.

Three goons followed the woman out of the W. Fourth St. subway station Thursday, grabbing her purse and dragging the iron-willed victim about 10 feet before she finally let go of the strap, said the victim?s son.

?She heard footsteps,? her son, Robert, told the Daily News. ?She started running. When she turned around, she saw them running after her.?

She was on her way to a maintenance job at NYU?s Bobst Library around 5:30 a.m., said the son. ?She?s very feisty ? she fought them off,? he added.

Most of the contents of her purse were recovered, but a phone and credit card are gone, her son said.

Efrain Navedo, 18, of Jersey City, and Tega Douglas, 17, of Bedford-Stuyvesant, were charged with robbery after police on patrol recognized them from surveillance images, officials said. A third man is still on the loose.

Re: The $3,000 apartment, Asking (and getting) big rents is another sign the Gold Coast is booming
Home away from home
Home away from home

That would be my concern as well. There are expensive rental units in my building where tenants don't care and just slam the doors and treat everything (i.e., common areas) as though there is a maid to clean up after them. That would be my worry.

We are thinking of leasing our condo. Ours is 700sqft one bedroom, one bathroom. Looking around other comps in the neighborhood (although there aren't that many comparable rentals in our immediate neighborhood), I've been thinking $2150/month. But realtors who have seen it tell us that we can go higher (I'm skeptical).

It is a very nice unit though. Obviously, I'm biased, but it's right on Van Vorst Park and 5 minute walk to Grove Street PATH.

I have two schools of thought. One is to at least try to lease it at a high as the realtors had suggested ($2400). But I do worry if a tenant is paying as much as $2400, he or she may complain about even smallest things that could possibly go wrong (like changing a light bulb).

I would personally like to lease it for a little bit lower than it can be to someone who feels lucky to live there for that rent.

Anyway, a difficult decision is ahead of me.
