No I am not dense, psyop. You live in denial. If a man commits adultery against his wife and has an affair in a motel, you blame the man, not the motel. Likewise, it was convenient to blame the church, yes, it does share some blame especially if this happened before. But you blame the gay priest who victimized the boy/teen. That aspect has been lost on attacking the church. Gay priests, not heterosexual priests committed these crimes. You are upset because I point out the truth.

That's the funniest goddamned thing ever!!

Did I miss something? Ferries still run. They cost $8 per ride, because they're privately operated.

You also have to get to them. That's easy for people in Newport and Paulus Hook; difficult for everyone else downtown; effectively worthless for the rest of JC.

On this, we agree... we do have ferry service. In fact, there are five ferry terminals from which people could hop onto a ferry: three are downtown, one is in LSP, and the other is in Port Libert?. But, I should note, Newport lost its ferry terminal after Sandy, and NY Waterway chose not to bring it back.

Exactly. If it is restored the walk to the ferry is maybe 2 extra minutes from the PATH station at Newport.

So basically, the "Church" is taking the money and running.

Rome: "Screw the kids!"

Priests: "Do you think we have time?"

I went to the showing of 1984 at the Loew's last night. It was a presentation with discussion to follow. All in all, an admirable attempt at a community gathering. As one of the speakers latter opined, there is a need for people to come out for this type of an event so that the arts can be supported from within by those who want to see them flourish.
Unfortunately there wasn't enough time for a lengthy back and forth between audience, moderator and the panel. Had it started an hour earlier I think that the public would have been better served. There was an interesting and enlightened group at the dais who could have given so much more if they had the time.
The film was shown in the right theater. When it comes to remembrance of a grand past reduced to border line squalor we were right at home. I know of what I speak having spent my boyhood years there a half century ago.
When will the "Friends" give over the place to an entity that can bring it back to more of a semblance of what it was. There is still so much grandeur that can be re-presented to the public.
As it stands, it is a downright embarrassment.
I have been attending vintage showings since the reopening of the theater, and I can't believe how little improvement has been accomplished. And yes, I know it was a Herculean effort just to get the place reopened and cleaned for habitation, but come on!!!

Every time I see that damned silly organ pop up and play the inane music that just wastes time I wonder why the funds weren't given over to an air filtration system or air conditioning for the building? No matter how I plead with my wife to accompany me to a showing (and she has in the past) she won't enter the place again because of the mustiness and the filth of the ages that has yet to be removed. Last night as I sat down I realized how right she is. As I gazed at the walls and the ceilings and the upper levels I realized that the dusty air within and the odor of decay cannot be allowed to linger if the theater ever wants to become a place of entertainment value.

I could go on and on, and yes, I appreciate the valor and fortitude in the effort of the volunteers in the comeback they are trying to efface there, but someone has to come to reason and see that filth must be removed from a public gathering place first for the enjoyment of the public.

That silly organ sure gleams though.

Ummmm. Grab a broom?

Guys, I think you're going a little nuts about this.

The problem: Every Thursday-Saturday there's a couple dozen kids that drink too much, then loiter after the bars close where they then yell a bit, then sometimes break bottles that they sneak out of the bars on their way out.

The solution: Have a cop pass by at last call and shuffle them down the block. That's it. That's the whole problem, solved.

There's kids that stand outside on Erie from last call til about 4, drinking their last call drinks that they snuck out in their coats, then they leave/break the bottles on the street.
Just have a cop come through every 30 minutes from 2:30 until 4 and move them along. Don't do the stupid siren woop woop, because that wakes me up more than the kids talking. Just say, "Hey guys, time to go."
Done. Now you have a pedestrian plaza that thousands enjoy daily, and a flourishing restaurant/bar scene that are enjoyed by thousands nightly.

Shit, I should run for mayor of this dump.

Common Sense!!! Have one cop pass by one or two times....like they should anyway and end this thread for godsakes!

Yes, this is REALLY helping the residents who have already been woken up. It just takes one cackling douche bag to destroy the peace in YOUR home. Basically, outsiders are dictating how taxpayers QOL is going to be in the very expensive home they bought. The cops, most of who are not city residents, are hardly gonna spring into action at every 311 call. Shut that place down at midnight.

I find this all quite hilarious. Are the cops really going to walk around "shushing" people? You wanted "a vast selection of craft beers with tasty treats" and you got drunks and litter. Want to stop the disruption to resident's lives and stop the eroding of real estate values and keep it "family friendly"? Shut the places down at Midnight. Let those who want to "party" move along to another town before they get completely sh*t-faced. If you think for a minute that a cop or two hanging around here or there will make a difference then you are deluded.

http://www.armagnoagency.com/ArmagnoAgency/listings_rentals.asp

Try Armagno. I would recommend the Van Vorst, Hamilton Park and Harsimus Cove area all of which are downtown. There are also lots of apartments on the waterfront beyond Newport Mall but they tend to be overpriced and sometimes el cheapo construction. Journal Square is up the hill and further away from the waterfront and NYC but is one of the current flourishing areas with sometimes reasonable rents. The closer to the PATH train the better. A 10-15 minute walk to the train is a good yardstick. The Exchange Place area is also a good spot to look.

It's always best to call the police immediately and DO NOT confront people especially when you are vastly outnumbered. If you need to, keep your distance and monitor the assailants till the police arrive.
