Excellent point. The numbers are manipulated to make people think things are better than they are.

Here are some JC stats comparing Jan thru Nov 2010 to 2011. I only go to Nov for each year because Dec stats for 2011 are not yet available.

Homicide - 2010 - 21: 2011 - 15

Robbery (Strong Arm - fists, etc) - 2010 - 504: 2011 - 548

Gun - 2010 - 141: 2011 - 153

Knife, etc - 2010 - 160: 2011 - 212

Some crimes are up, some are down. Between Jan & Nov 2010 there were a total of 10141 reported crimes in Jersey City. That number is 9956 in 2011. That is a difference of 185 crimes, not a huge number. Can't wait to see Dec 2011 stats are.

Surprisingly I just had a pleasant JCPA experience.

I recently bought a car out of state with that states temp tags.
When I called JCPA and asked what to do they told me I had to reapply and pay all over again. PAIN.

I went in the next day to see if I could get a second opinion in person, because surely they'd have me on record and can just print out a new sticker? Clearly not. "You have to start over."

I went back the next day with all my forms, the application & money, and this time there was an uniformed PA officer behind the desk. She told me not to be ridiculous, my current permit is good till August - I'll just print you out a 30 day temp tag and when your plates and reg come in the mail just bring 'em over, pay 1$ for the transfer and that's that.

still a hassle full of mixed messages, but at least I came away feeling victorious.

Congratulations! Those who are helpful & know what is going on at that place are the exception - not the rule.

Damned if I know. I do know that the vehicles are not that well maintained & you only need to see the way they are driven to know the poor vehicle is not long for this life. BTW, the blown turbos was the damage immediately known, the mechanic didn't know if any engine damage was done. If I get a chance to discreetly ask, I will.

Just want to give an update on the infamous truck.

Jennifer Morril, Healy press secretary since 2007, was not exactly telling the truth when she said a private tower was hired. Jack's Towing, located on Summit Ave right off Thorne St. has the City contract. They have for years. In fact, they got the contract when, then owner, Jack Tarantula, made a donation to Healy. Jack sits on the Parking Authority board. Good friends with Mc Can and Conners. The truck had two blown turbos and was still there just before Christmas.

You can get a 1 bedroom at GrovePointe for like $2100-2400. The same with 50 Columbus. My friend lives at GrovePointe and she likes it. It is lacking some charm but that is what you give up when you move into a highrise.

I do not see any problem finding a 1 bedroom in a rowhouse within half a mile of he path for $2000 bucks. I have lived in hamiltion park(north of grove st) and it was only like 1600. i also lived in 1st street west of grove st and that was about the same. each of which were about half a mile away and my electric bill was way under 200 a month.

don't let a few people discourage you. JC is a great small city. It is constantly improving and honestly i prefer the path to the subway. It is also much cheaper if you can avoid paying for a monthly subway pass to just have a path card.

good luck! consider row houses!

Glitter Queen: Jersey City is a great small town? You call almost 250k residents small? The PATH is a subway.

Now on to the real issue:

Try the Heights. Ogden Ave. from Bowers to Congress is a nice neighborhood & within walking distance of the Light Rail. It is also one block from Palisade Ave & you may be able to catch a bus to New York. The rent is a heck of a lot cheaper also.

Why anyone would go to the Parking Authority for anything is beyond me. The agency is filled with Healy's braindead drunken footsoldiers and ticket buyers. There are a few who try but you have to look hard.

If you ever want to know anything about parking/cleaning schedules, leaf pickup, garbage, etc. just got to JCIAonline.org. Fairly user friendly place.

Home Decoration Smackdown: Jersey City vs Newark vs Roselle
Home away from home
Home away from home

Jersey City was named the winner of The Home Decorating Smack-down between Newark and Roselle, winning $3,000 for Jersey City libraries and bragging rights for having the most festive neighborhood.

Councilman Steven Fulop of Jersey City, Councilman Anibal Ramos of Newark, and Mayor Janel Holley of Roselle, created the contest using social media to help benefit struggling public libraries.

"Personally, this is a new thing for us leveraging social media for pure charity so hopefully we can get people engaged," Said Councilman Fulop.

The long time friends have created a Facebook page in which each city can upload photos of holiday decorated residences. Each municipal leader has agreed to donate $1,000 to the library system of the city who has uploaded the most pictures.

In addition to the $3,000 grand prize, the officials are also offering a holiday gift basket valued at $500 to the individual picture with the most amount of "likes."

Jersey Journal photographer Richard McCormack had the most likes for his photos that he posted on the site.

"It was great to be part of the good intentions of three great cities that benefit the children of our area," he said.

Of the photos uploaded to the Facebook page, most were from Jersey City.

"It is a great time for a positive and friendly competition that will engage these communities in the holiday spirit to help their libraries" said Fulop in regards to the tough budget situation of each of the city's library systems.

Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.

Little DICKie-Doo had said that those who had received raises previously in 2011 did not get the 3%. Well, guess what? They did. Saw the list. So the 40 or so people who recently got raises from $8k to 24k received 3% on top of it all.

Oh DICKie, DICKie, DICKie. tsk, tsk.

Let DICKwad keep posting. With each post he reveals more of who he is. BTW the vitriol that spewed forth from his foul mouth is in total contrast to the bible quoting which shows someone with not only an anger issue, but deep seated psychological issues, as well as visions of granduer in believing he does his job well and is entitled.

Well BRAT :

1. Staff under Schundler did get raises
2. Only staff who didn't get previous raises in 2011 got the 3%
3. No police officers got laid off
4. I don't drink

3. We are hiring officers layed-off from OTHER jurisdictions.

Re: Do I have a shot at fighting this parking ticket?
Home away from home
Home away from home

This happened to me a couple of years back. Everything was correct except the street. The judge had a good laugh because the numbers on the street I was allegedly parked on only went up to the 80's. It was a short street. The address I was parked in front of was just over 200, which probably would have put me in someone's living room a few blocks past where the street ended.

You may have a chance of getting ticket #2 dismissed if you can make the case that you were in parking compliance. Sometimes the devil is in the details. Technically you were still parked in violation as ticket #1 will attest, however, if ticket #2 is for things that are not correct, you stand a pretty good chance.

Good luck.

Mayor Healy had nothing to do with the nomination of Ms. Massey. Ms Massey was the choice of Viola Richardson after she won the at-Large seat. Only recommendations can be made but ultimately it is only the Council who has the where withall to make the final decision. Hopefully Ms. Massey will live up to the reputation as the independent thinker I have heard she is.

I have no idea how anyone can say Gino's Pizza is good. It is greasy & imo, the cheese tastes like plastic. Pizza Masters & Rizzo's make the best slices in the Heights. A little place on Kennedy Blvd, Anna Marie's, is okay. The sauce is what makes Larry & Joe's Pizza tasty. Prince of Pizza is very good. Frank's on Monmouth St. turns out a good slice besides Frank, the owner, is a character & real son of Jersey City.
