Downtown Jersey City Resident the Late Sal Piro, Rocky Horror Superfan
|
|
Home away from home
|
By Tris McCall Richard O’Brien, Tim Curry, and Susan Sarandon made the Rocky Horror Picture Show a hoot. Sal Piro made it a phenomenon. He did not do it from the screen, or from the director’s chair, or from behind a camera, or from the offices of a movie studio. The Jersey City native did it from the audience. Piro, who died at 71 after a highly unusual and consequential career in show business, spent decades as the president of the Rocky Horror Picture Show Fan Club. In that role, he helped transform fandom from the passive activity it had been into the creative act that it is today — something akin to artistry. https://riverviewobserver.net/general/ ... or-picture-show-superfan/

NBC News NJ Teacher Shot Dead; Husband Arrested in PA After Their Daughter Calls 911The Hudson County prosecutor's office is investigating -- and the woman's 14-year-old daughter was supposedly the one to call 911 By Brian Thompson • Published 1 hour ago • Updated 32 mins ag A third-grade teacher in New Jersey was shot to death at her Jersey City home early Tuesday, allegedly a victim of domestic violence at the hands of her husband, who was arrested out of state hours later, a high-level police source and other law enforcement sources confirmed. Sources identified the victim as Temara King, who celebrated her 35th birthday just two weeks ago and taught at Public School Number 5 on Merseles Street. She was killed at her apartment on Bergen Avenue shortly before 7:30 a.m. Sources said her 14-year-old daughter was the one who called 911 and told the dispatcher her dad shot her. The father, identified by sources as 39-year-old Lucus Cooper, was apprehended by Pennsylvania State Police later Tuesday, the high-ranking police sources said. Charges against him weren't immediately clear, nor did Hudson County prosecutors, who were leading the investigation, immediately confirm the details of the case publicly. Family members described King as a loving mother. She also was a loving teacher, Jersey City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Norma Fernandez indicated. "Our hearts are broken at the sudden violent loss of Temara King," Fernandez said in a statement. "She was an outstanding educator and dedicated faculty member. She will be missed and our prayers go to her family as they cope with the tragedy." Investigators were seen loading up evidence throughout the morning. King earned a master's degree with a specialty in special education and recently was promoted. https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/ ... on-bergen-avenue/4065137/

..for Mayor again. (hmm is there a Mayor WheelMan in our future?)
Dear Jersey City resident,
I hope this email finds you well and your 2023 is off to a great start.
I wanted to share with you a decision I made over the new year. I’ve decided with certainty that this will be my last term as mayor and despite no term limits in Jersey City, I know that I won’t be standing for re-election as Jersey City's mayor in 2025. You can learn more here.
I am forever grateful that you elected me for three terms as your mayor - something that hasn’t been done in more than 50 years, and you did it with record pluralities. In turn, I put everything I could into serving as mayor knowing that I strived every single day to make you proud and move the city forward.
We have done so much together to move Jersey City forward. Our city has become a national model on so many fronts and truly one of the best renaissance stories in the country. I know that three terms is a substantial amount of time to leave a city better than the way it was when we started and I believe we did that.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve this amazing city
I love Jersey City as it is a very special place with the best communities working together towards a better future
Thank you Jersey City.
Sincerely,
Steven M. Fulop

|
Traditional Christmastide Our Lady of Sorrows, Jersey City
Rev. John Perricone, priest Simone Ferraresi, Music Dir. All liturgies according to the traditional ordo in Latin Clairmont Ave & Ocean, with off street parking directly across from the Church.
Rorate Mass, 6:00 am, Saturday, December 17, 2022. The Rorate Mass is lit only by candlelight. Because it is a votive Mass in Mary’s honor, white vestments are worn instead of Advent violet. In the dimly lit setting, priests and faithful prepare to honor the Light of the world, Who is soon to be born, and offer praise to God for the gift of Our Lady. As the Mass proceeds and sunrise approaches, the church becomes progressively brighter, illumined by the sun as our Faith is illumined by Christ. Also known in the Middle Ages as the Missa aurea (the Golden Mass), because of the various promises added to it. Prope est! Midnight Mass, Saturday, December 24, 2022. The genealogy of Our Lord according to the flesh will be chanted at midnight and the First Mass of Christmas follows immediately thereafter. The Nativity of Our Lord is recorded to have taken place in the depths of the night and so this ancient liturgy pierces the darkness echoing the refrain of the the angelic hosts singing Gloria in excelsis Deo!. A prelude of sacred music will commence at 11:30 pm by Cantantes in Cordibus, the choir in residence. The choir , accompanied by orchestra, will sing Caldara’s Mass in G, a baroque masterpiece. Octave of Christmas, 9:00 am, Sunday, January 1, 2023. “Today, the Son of Man is to be circumcised; this first sacrifice of his innocent Flesh must honor the eighth day of his mortal life. Mysteries abound on this day: let us not pass one of them over but honor them with all possible devotion and love.”
Epiphany Blessing of the of the Water, Thursday, January 5, 2023, 7:00 pm. This ritual was borrowed from the Eastern Church which calls it the Great Blessing of Waters on the Eve of -Theophany. It entered the Roman Ritual in 1890, the same year Pope Leo XIII composed his “Exorcism Against Satan and the Apostate Angels,” a longer version of his familiar 1886 St. Michael prayer. After the psalms and the Magnificat, the priest recites quietly, in Latin, the central oration from Pope Leo’s longer prayer to St. Michael, a deck-clearing exorcism that aims to deliver, not a possessed person, but the Church herself from the destructive designs of ¬Satan. Join in this prayer against these days which are evil! The faithful may bring water in containers to be blessed to bring home to the domestic church.
Epiphany, Friday, January 6, 2023, 7:00 pm “The Epiphany is indeed a great Feast, and the joy caused us by the Birth of our Jesus must be renewed on it, for, as though it were a second Christmas Day, it shows us our Incarnate God in a new light. It leaves us all the sweetness of the dear Babe of Bethlehem, who hath appeared to us already in love; but to this it adds its own grand manifestation of the divinity of our Jesus. At Christmas, it was a few Shepherds that were invited by the Angels to go and recognize THE WORD MADE FLESH; but now, at the Epiphany, the voice of God himself calls the whole world to adore this Jesus and hear him.”
“For the Son of God became man so that we might become God.” St. Athanasius of Alexandria, AD 296 – 373

Restricting who gets A vaccine (only restricting the Moderna one for those under 30), and (from the article):
"None of the studies cast doubt on the vaccines’ effectiveness or the benefits they bring by safeguarding against Covid-19 and studies suggest the risks of heart inflammation are substantially higher in those infected with Covid-19. Overwhelmingly, regulators and experts agree that the benefits of vaccination outweigh the possible risks, even in young people and children at lower risk of serious illness, and are urging their populations to get the jab. What does Jersey City have that you would consider paying that exorbitant fee?[/quote] For condominiums west of Kennedy Blvd. in the Heights with an equivalent square footage, the average property tax is one third of that amount. Taxes average around $4k to $5k for small condos compared to what you are stating.
