By far the longest I've ever been stuck this a.m. due to a sick passenger, was a baby being delivered on the train?

Try the "Any 3 Tapas + Drink" at Raval. I never tried Raval until about a month ago, I just was never that interested. For $25, it's definitely a good deal and their tapas plates are HUGE compared to other places I've been to.

MikeyTBC is right on the money. 100 miles "flat" isn't really that big a deal, this would be your NYC Century Ride. However, once you start looking at, say, 8000+ ft elevation gain, it's a different animal completely. My guess is that there are very few organized events that would bother hosting a flat century since it would be boring and not much of a challenge.

A "century" would probably be considered the equivalent. There are metric centuries (62 miles) and imperial centuries (100 miles). Most cyclists refer to 100 miles as being a true century, and a "welcome to the club" accomplishment.

Definitely BBB. When it starts to leak (which it will) bring it back and they give you a new one. If you host a lot, this will save you hundreds.

From a marketing standpoint, it probably makes sense that they rebrand. Monty's is essentially a failed brand, it never got its feet off the ground, and it put itself out there to be judged and critiqued. To unveil your business to the public and to "Est. 2013" on your facade was just bad business planning.

Now, ATLAS, the god of endurance with the weight of the world on his shoulders ? is a fitting name for a brand that has been nearly 3+ years in the making.

So far i have seen:

1) a cab double parked next to one
2) a CUV parked in front of one, almost blocking the intersection
3) a motorcycle parked inside one
4) a Fiat 3/4 parked inside one

There are many shades of success.

Re: Problems with Comcast?

I had Comcast for years without issue, that was until they had that "we've upgraded our service, trade in your old modem" program. Worst thing i could have done. The gateway that Comcast provides was a complete POS. WiFi signal could barely reach a room or two away. We constantly lost our connection. Streaming video through an ethernet cable to our TV was excruciating. Couldn't even connect to xBox Live. It had to be rebooted at least 2x a week. I went back and forth with Comcast for about 6 months about the issue, and of course it had "nothing to do with their service or hardware". I finally bit the bullet and bought my own router and modem. With that alone, every single problem i had was fixed. blazing fast downloads (even with my 25mb/s plan), full WiFi in all location of my apartment, no rebooting, no buffering, nothing. Plus now in several months, the purchase of my own equipment will offset the cost of renting their garbage.

Does anybody write or sign contracts anymore? If you are commissioned to do work, are the boundaries of the work not agreed upon by both parties?

Nah, let's just wing it any see what happens.

This post is in response to the "Man crossing Jersey City street struck and killed by off-duty Jersey City cop", but this thread is where it belongs.

As I drove around my neighborhood recently I was pondering that a full grid of all way stops at every single intersection and speed humps everywhere, which is where we're headed, is not usual in areas of our density. Hoboken seems to function and does not do this, there's plenty of streets that go many blocks without a stop, and there few humps, only by the projects. The answer to the puzzle is we don't have a street design problem, we have an enforcement problem. There's simply no credible threat to aggressive & speeding drivers.

I was heading S on Coles a couple of days ago when a car ran the stop at 15th st in front of me, then ran the stop at 10th making a left. I'm not talking about failure to completely stop, this was not even a tap. This driver had no fear at all there would be a cop to ticket them. We've all seen this. No amount of new stops will solve this problem. The scofflaw driver culture in JC needs an intervention.

I've seen this happen multiple times on Coles & Pavonia, and it's absolutely terrifying and infuriating.

I never tried Tommy 2 Scoops and I've regretted every time (3) that I've gone to Brightside. Went there with the wife a few weeks ago because we had a friend performing at a brunch comedy show. The service, as usual, was weird and borderline non-exsistant. i ordered banana pancakes but I was served strawberry. i didn't bother sending them back because I had already waited over 30 minutes, but i wish I did because they had the taste and consistency of play-doh. I ordered a second bloody mary, which never came out, but I got billed for it anyway. Waitress was unapologetic and basically rolled her eyes and walked away with the check after I brought it to her attention. Before leaving I hit the bar for a drink, but the beer i asked for was kicked, so they had to tap a fresh keg, which after about 15-20 minutes of 2 people trying, was unsuccessful. That place is a mess and i always find Tommy overly-intrusive and annoying in his attempts to be friendly with the costumers. It's too bad because that section of JC could use a decent sit-down restaurant/bar.

Powder Blue SS bike at the intersection of Jersey and 8th with both brake lines clipped. The owner locks their bike up correctly with a HD chain lock through both wheels and the frame, so this was clearly vandalism for the hell of it.

I've seen a ton of school-aged kids on bikes and skateboards that absolutely blow through the intersections on Jersey Ave when I walk home from work. Only started noticing it this year, maybe it's the new "knock out?"

Are any points awarded for encroachment (those drivers who continue to creep towards you as you make your way across the street)?

Overall i agree with most, the experience is nice. The gentleman who greets you as you enter is very accommodating and pleasant. The staff are also very good. I did think that the noodles were a tad al-dente, almost how I would prefer my spaghetti noodles to be. Flavors and portion size were good. My wife and I got 2 starters and 2 bowls and our bill was $47 before tax and tip. Not cheap, but they are BYOB which is a plus.

I guess a little more explanation... I have no local branches, my bank is all ATM, app, and mail based. They reimburse all ATM fees, but if you need a hundo, there is no teller to walk up to. I sometimes prefer one for a birthday card or the like, so I was just curious if anyone knows of one in the area. Chase has them, but the ones I have tried of theirs in JC just gave 20's.

My bank is the same, no local branches. I've never needed to try this, but is it possible to go to any bank teller with a stack of 20s and just ask them to consolidate it? Money is money right?

Ya, in my original post regarding the whole artisanal thing (which got taken in a whole new direction) I was referring to how the dining concept is presented, not on how the food is executed. i have no idea if they sticking to a book of standards, i can only see the trendy interior, inflated prices and modest portions.

This whole "artisanal" BS food trend needs to stop. BBQ in its essence IS ARTISANAL. The amount of time the food takes to cook, the delicate mix of spices for the rubs, the tending of the fire.

Now look what Hamilton Pork has done here: Here are your FOUR RIBS, here is your SCOOP of mac n' cheese. Look how delicate your plate is, oh so delicate, the balance, so artisanal, are you enjoying the atmosphere, it's reclaimed wood, very artisanal. Do you like the butcher paper, very authentic.

This is insulting the the BBQ experience. BBQ is about eating big, big portions, over abundance. It's the reason why people with weak stomachs don't like BBQ "ewewew, it's SO MUCH FOOD" You aren't expected to eat all of it, your expected to share it.

This is exactly the execution I was expecting from The Hamilton Inn and I feel bad for the people who are about to be let down, again.

JerseyCityFrankie nailed it, well said.

Let's be honest, Hoboken doesn't have a problem with a lack of available parking, it's problem is too many people who have cars. Do I think they should remove existing parking spaces to accommodate a bike lane, absolutely not - that's just stupid. However, it's not like a bike lane is ever going to stop people from double parking, but to a few, it will make them think twice, especially if the police actually enforce the laws that they are being paid to enforce.

I don't know if I totally agree with the topic of making double parking legal, that might only lead to triple parking.

I agree that Madame Claude's is a great choice for a intimate meal ? HOWEVER - let me suggest that it not be for Valentines Day, and here is why. It is small, it is intimate, it is a popular choice. My wife and I did MC a couple of times for V-Day and it was always been so packed that the two-tops literally get so smashed together that is becomes one long family style seating arrangement. Prepare to share your conversation with the people on the left and right of you, as well as listen to their's.

Let me suggest Skinner's Loft as an alternate for a similar environment and quality of food with a little more breathing room. If you can get a table in the dinning room by the fireplace, it is actually quite nice.
