‘Our goal has not changed:’ Jersey City maneuvering for Embankment park after negotiations fall through

Updated May 28, 2021; Posted May 28, 2021
By Peter D’Auria | The Jersey Journal

A proposed linear park in Jersey City’s Historic Downtown is not yet dead.

In a study made public earlier this month, Jersey City’s planning division determined that the Embankment — a stretch of elevated land where officials hope to build parkland — could be designated for redevelopment and in some cases eminent domain to make the park a reality.

Pulaski Skyway to be closed in both directions this weekend

Updated 12:04 PM; Today 12:04 PM (4/30/2021)
By Ron Zeitlinger | The Jersey Journal

The Pulaski Skyway will be closed in in both directions this weekend for concrete work as the rehabilitation of the historic 88-year-old bridge continues, state Department of Transportation officials announced Friday.

To avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to use the NJ Turnpike-Hudson County Extension to all destinations, including the Holland Tunnel, I-78, or to I-280/Route 7 and Route 1&9 Truck southbound, officials said. All other motorists will be directed to Route 1&9 Truck in both directions.

The Skyway will be closed at 10 p.m. Friday and it will not reopen until 5 a.m. Monday. In the event that the concrete work is completed early, the roadway will be reopened sooner.

Before that, the tavern at 189 Monticello Ave. founded almost 52 years ago by Ruth Moore and the late Bill Moore and had regularly been host to jazz bandleader and drummer Winard Harper?s ?Meet the Artist? series, featuring some of the top jazz musicians in the country, along with a weekly jam session.

Yeah I don?t think anyone is gong to beat Mayor Fulop. The city has really progressed under his 2 terms he should be rewarded with a 3rd. Opponents could take a hint from The Healy Clones run in 2017 and save their donors money. If they do not run Mayor Fulop could donate some of his vast war chest to JC programs or something. A win win.

Can anyone beat Steve Fulop?

Updated Jan 17, 2021; Posted Jan 17, 2021
By Peter D?Auria | The Jersey Journal and Joshua Rosario | The Jersey Journal

Steve Fulop doesn?t seem too worried about the Jersey City mayoral election in November.

With fewer than 10 months before the Jersey City mayoral election, Fulop has hundreds of thousands of dollars in the bank. He has friends and allies across the county. And so far, nobody has officially stepped forward to challenge him.

By contrast, 2017 challenger Bill Matsikoudis announced his candidacy a full year before the election. Fulop won that race by a margin higher than 50%, the highest margin in decades
