Looks pretty cool. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Except that, in this case, you lack my intellect, creativity and awesomeness, so you are just another mediocre loser trying to shine by borrowing someone else's sparkle. Don't worry, you are not the first, and you will not be the last.

Looks like you're saying that a person who copies another persons imagery is " just another mediocre loser trying to shine by borrowing someone else's sparkle."
Its not how I would have put it, but I do think the person knocking off the postcard art does fall short of being exemplary.

Look at it this way: if a person in Hoboken has an act where they dress as batman and play the trombone, and they have been at it since 1990-something, I'm going to find it a little less than original when someone in Jersey City starts doing it. Neither of them invented Batman or the trombone, but one of them HAS BEEN DOING IT for fifteen or twenty years in the next town over.

it is a bit dodgy to be knocking off a local artist who has been doing this sort of work, here in Hudson County, for so many years. Regardless of the original source material.

There is a prominent Hoboken artist named Ray Smith who has been doing work EXACTLY like this for DECADES.
It strikes me as very odd that in this link there is a quote from the artist but the artist's name is not mentioned. I HOPE it is Mr Smith behind this after all?

The new Jersey City locations of the stations are appearing in the official citibike app, the smartphone app that shows the locations of all the stations over a google map. For now they appear in grey but I am willing to bet these are going to be the actual Jersey City locations.
The stations are solar powered so installing them consists of getting them off the truck and bolting them together and painting lines around them on the pavement.

I often ride my bike down to Liberty State Park and the sight of the local J-24 sailboats racing around their buoys North of Ellis Island really makes the harbor come alive. The bright multicolored spinnakers add so much to the seascape. I really miss them in the cold months of the year when everything is so grey.

?..."Derp derp derp Lets spend unnecessary millions on the WTC station and make it literally a white marble palace! Yes every surface must be made of the most expensive materials we can find and be GLEAMING SPOTLESS WHITE! Who cares how much it will cost or even if riders WANTED a marble palace? Who cares that now we need to employ teams of workers who's sole job will be to wipe down every surface 24/7 so that the dirt won't show? An underground train station in New York should be EASY to keep clean, right? And it probably won't take too long to build, right? Oh we have cost and schedule overruns? I wonder why that happened? Oh well I still get paid to come up with these ideas and the riders won't mind if their transit fares go up dramatically to cover the unnecessary costs we added to this bloated project. I bet they won't mind the outrageous juxtaposition of silk vest wearing butlers cleaning constantly and gun toting soldiers dressed for combat loitering around doing absolutely nothing but projecting menace"??.

Re: JC Bike Share Will Roll Out Citywide

As I understand it my NYC citibike membership will now transfer seamlessly into the Jersey City citibike program as soon as the system goes online. And as I understand it I will not have to pay any additional fee for the service I will now be able to enjoy in both cities. What's not to love?

When it was announced Jersey City would not join with Hoboken in a shared bike program there was some criticism. Now I only wonder why Hoboken doesn't or didn't want to join citibike as well. Wouldn't THAT make more sense than the route Hoboken appears to be contemplating, that of inventing their own home grown system? People that wanted Hoboken and Jersey City untied under the same program should be lobbying Hoboken to get onboard with citibike too. I suppose this would mean a citibike membership would be good in all three cities? But is it really as simple as that? Was Hoboken even offered the chance to join?

Rode my bike past the temporary Polo Grounds and I have to say: I have never seen any event leave as much trash behind. Thank goodness they built a fence around it to keep us out, because that fence is the only thing keeping a spectacular obscene amount of trash from blowing all over the park. I am not exaggerating it looks like the day after woodstock in there, only with champaign bottles. Looks like 900 champaign bottles.

I will chime in and say that it IS redunculous that the hole at the river side end of that huge expensive fiasco monument is STILL NOT REPAIRED. Note to LSP: It is NOT O.K. that you have ignored this eyesore for as long as you have (is it two years now?) all it takes is filling in the hole and cementing over it. Oh you are looking at some long term solution to river erosion before you commit money? THATS RIDICULOUS patch the hole with cement for now. Why are we even talking about this?

I read the headline then I clicked on it saying to myself " I hope its not Bogiano, I hope its not Bogiano". Oh well. One wonders what other institutions, state run organizations or entities public or private in the city Bogiano will shake his fist at and demand they be "taken over by private concerns". Does a Jersey City Councilperson have juice enough to make the State even notice their displeasure? I may misunderstand the power dynamic at work here but it seams to me that all Bogiano can do is write his congressperson.

If you don't have to pick up a package, I have learned to use the Hoboken Frank Sinatra station. They FUNCTION there, the people do their jobs. There may be a line but it will move along at a rational pace since the windows are STAFFED. They won't necessarily smile at you but they will be WORKING the whole time and not wasting your time. Plus its a classy building. I WISH I could get my packages delivered there.

Another vote for John Ng. He's at 121 Newark across from PATH and his phone is 201-360-3981. I came to him with a stack of jumbled documents closer to confetti than to orderly records and he waved a magic wand ver them. Numbers frighten me and I find even the IDEA of doing my taxes causes anxiety. But Mr Ng put me at ease and extracted order from chaos. I wouldn't go to the trouble of writing in on this forum if I didn't think the guy was great. Check his reviews on Yelp too.

I decided to make Chicken Soup and I am sure many of you have strong opinions on how Chicken Soup should be done. Would anyone care to opine? I am in the "Kitchen Sink" school where I throw in everything I can think of but another school of thought is that its all about the broth and everything else is a distraction.

I will address this to anyone who parks their car for the night in a location where they themselves can not hear their car alarm if it goes off: What the hell are you thinking? This is the most selfish thing you could do. Quite often these alarms go off intermittently all night long. Does anyone really think that its fair to balance some sort of unproven dubious idea that it will protect your car, against the near certainty that you will be depriving scores of people of their sleep?

I'm writing in to bump this story back onto the front page but ALSO to point out that if you want to participate you will need six quarts of frozen soup. Its Monday the 19th as I write this so there is just under a week left. You may want to think about a trip to the grocery store real soon and some planning of soup strategy.

Sure I think we all know what salmoning is. But the quote was : ?Before we have a bike share program, we should teach people not to ride bikes on the opposite side of the street,? said Councilman Richard Boggiano."
You are probably right, he probably meant "riding in the wrong direction of the traffic flow" or even "riding against traffic" He couldn't articulate this simple idea for some reason but his tone suggests he is against the bike share system. I have a problem with the way Boggoano came out against the red light cameras and now apparently is posturing against the bike program. He should remember that his constituents don't all own automobiles, yet we still have a right to cross streets at the light in safety and we have the right to ride bicycles. I'm really disappointed in him.

Wikipedia has this on Soup: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soup
Here are some quotes: "Evidence of the existence of soup can be found as far back as about 20,000 BC"
.

"The word soup comes from French soupe ("soup", "broth"), which comes through Vulgar Latin suppa ("bread soaked in broth") from a Germanic source, from which also comes the word "sop", a piece of bread used to soak up soup"
.
Wikipedia has a whole nother page with a long list of different soups:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_soups
Which spins off into individual soups, most with their own page too, like Clam Chowder: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clam_chowder#New_England_clam_chowder
and Borscht: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borscht
O.K. now I'm hungry.

Lets assume for the sake of argument that homeland security detects a terrorist plot that is aimed at the PATH system. They do an assessment that predicts if the plot succcedes, PATH service would be crippled to the SAME EXTENT that it will be crippled if this no-more-evening-service plan is implemented. How much money and resources would they expend to insure this hypothetical terrorist plot could not be hatched? To what lengths would they go to ensure PATH service stayed the same? Yet two governors can connive to do exactly what the hypothetical terrorists would do and everyone is expected to accept it.

Re: Bike Share System

I will be the biggest cheerleader for a bike share in Jersey City but I can see some hurdles.
Auto drivers in town are not up to speed on modern notions of road sharing. Also our city sprawls so could there be a citiwide system? This would take a LOT of bikes to ensure availability in all the districts.
What I fear is that the stations would only be around Grove St and East to the river.
It would be nice to have it encompass Journal Square but the problem there is the escarpment: I suspect casual users would be happy enough to glide down this challenging hill but how many of them will want to ride back up? Its a difficult slog even for regular cyclists. I imagine all the bikes would wind up at Grove and never return to the Square.

So they can't fill the hole near the wall at Liberty State Park because there is no State money. I understand this. You can't buy cement if you don't have a budget. So a no-cost means of preventing unmonitored mischievous children form throwing themselves into the hole must be found. What about big rocks? Couldn't they just fill the hole with big rocks until the day the State of New Jersey comes to its senses and allows a bag of cement to be purchased? If ONLY there was a nearby supply of big rocks.......

There has been a cordoned off area in front of the September Eleventh memorial for two years now, whats up with that? ALL that money spent on that monstrosity and they can't manage to keep the area around it looking like any other part of the park? Seriously, that fence along the park runs continuously for about two miles and the ONLY part that is busted and surrounded by "temporary" police fences is the part located literally directly in front of the memorial. All the rest of the two miles of fencing is fine. Oh yah there was a hurricane that tore up the fence. TWO YEARS AGO. Did they stop selling cement?

This is a huge loss for the average NJ pedestrian. If you walk everywhere in the city, as most of us do, you note that the auto drivers can get away with just about any sort of bad intersection behavior. Without the cameras there will no doubt be a spike in poor driving behavior all over the state. I get that there were legitimate problems with the system but as a pedestrian I don't care. All I care about is my right to cross the street without having my life put in danger for the sake of some auto drivers convenience.
