I don't mind if people poke at me for "bragging." Really it was just a matter of me being there to see it, and the guy not having any sense of urgency. I am a male, but for the most part I tried to keep a safe distance. The police responded probably withing 3-4 minutes. The first dispatcher actually got off the phone with me even though I asked to stay on until the police came. After like 2-3 minutes I got nervous and called back. The 2nd dispatcher stayed on the phone with me and that's how they tracked him on the bus. I relayed the plates to the dispatcher. I would have liked the police to have arrived more quickly because he ended up approaching me, but overall they did a great job, and were very frienddly. More than anything I thought it was exciting, and kind of funny. That's why I shared it. I also heard from the police that there were a string of car break-ins in that area and hopefully that was the guy.

Funny story to share with you....

Yesterday around 3pm I had just arrived home from being out of town, and was about to jump in the shower when I heard my car alarm sounding. Car alarms go off pretty often on 4th street whether it be from blasting music or whatever else, but for whatever reason this time I looked out to my window and saw a man inside my car and rummaging through my belongings. I quickly threw on some clothes, and dialed 911 because I didn't want to confront the guy. I watched him get out of the car with a bag in his hand, and I slipped out my home without him seeing me, and I followed his aloof ass down monmouth, stood 20 feet away from him as he sat on a stoop in front of Barge Inn, down to Newark and watched him cross over to Steve Fulop's office, sit on that stoop, saw him eye up construction equipment being used in front of the building, then watched him hand a tool to the man working on a ladder (so strange), then he walked down Newark some more, until he observed me following him, I think because I was everywhere he was, was talking with the police the whole time, and I had no shoes on! haha! So he walked towards me, and said "What the F*%# are you doing with no shoes on, man." I avoided him, wandered into that barber shop there for a moment in case he went after me, and then he went on to try and catch one of those Jitney's...which he did as the police showed up. The Police pulled over the Jitney 2 blocks away, I identified the guy, they cuffed him, and found my Garmin GPS! He dug it out of my glove box. We went back took pictures, and went to the station and charged him etc. Anyways, as street smart as I am, I trusted my car alarm and lock a little too much. I won't leave my GPS in there anymore....and mind you...it was hidden and out of plain sight. The car was still broken into. He had some kind of tool.

He was visibly strung out by the way. Anyways, hopefully i prevented someone else's car from being broken into.

I don't know how persuasive, or intimidating that you are, but I'm sure the people at the Barge Inn know who it was.

yeah, I agree about the HP area. But I will continue to support local restaurants in hopes that with our support, more business will equal more money which will equal better staff which will eqaul better service which will set a better standard in Jersey City, and all things will improve.

I enjoy most restaurants in JC, however it's usually the service that most disappoints me. I guess the good servers find jobs in the big city.

Pretty funny that there's no mention of The Westin, even though they mention it's sister hotel, the W Hoboken which is in HOBOKEN, even though the title of the article says JERSEY CITY economy.

While most of JC I wouldn't really consider "safe," I would highly recommend taking Jersey Ave all the way down and crossing that little pedestrian bridge into the park. Many people don't even know it's there, but not only is it a shorter trip into the park (if you live in downtown JC) but I guess you could say it's safer because you don't have to venture into that questionable neighborhood over by Johnston Ave. Sorry if I offend anyone. I just think it's just a smart move.

My band played with the Honey Brothers at Maxwells a few years back. They were pretty nice guys. I felt bad for Adrian because girls were trying to take pictures of him peeing in that tiny bathroom. Wait a minute...I don't feel bad, I am jealous! haha

I also heard Danny Glover was spotted at Bar Majestic last night...don't know if it's true.

The cut-outs will be filled in with trees etc. When you take on a project like a streetscape, there is a thing called a process. They will redo the whole street and then do the lamps, benches, trees and planters. Calm down. I agree, the quality of the sidewalk kind of sucks, but it will be an improvement.

They are not going to pave 20 feet put in a tree, bolt in benches, erect a street lamp, pave another 20 feet and repeat. That's just ridiculous. Give it time.

I live right there. Not a bad area at all. Sometimes I see a shady character walking around, the Barge Inn has a less than desirable crowd, but it's isolated to that bar, and mostly just weekend nights.

I rarely see anything go down in the area. Madame Claude's is a block away, Lucky 7's, and it's a few blocks from Hamilton Park, so there's a lot of decent people living in the area and a few of them look out for their neighbors.

The main issue is that it doesn't look as nice mainly because of the atrocious looking pizza shops, the barge inn, and the grocery store on the corner, altough those guys are very nice. I just chalk it up as being jersey city. Lots of potential but still lots of old schoolers who like to litter, and not spend money on upkeep. But this can work in your favor if you are looking for a rental. There are some real bargains in the area.

They do have a donation cap. $2,600 personal, and I think 5,200 for a biz. Something like that. What's humorous is that no one gets outraged at the billions of dollars put into presidential campaigns. Absolutely sickening.

I think it would be really cool if we could also see a list of the honest politicians who turned down offers from Zwek. For all of the guys the FBI caught, I am sure there were many who did the right thing. I'd like to know who the honest guys are as well!

Yeah but you can't deny the constant ticketing for turnstile jumpers, and public urination etc. Zero tolerance. Jeez, I got pulled over once on 5th avenue by a cop on FOOT! They don't put up with any BS. It worked, and it works.

I'm not an expert of Law Enforcement by any means, but I used to live in the Philly area, and in the 80's they did the "officers on the beat" thing, and kicked some ass to help out.

Also, I'm sure it's been stated on here many times, but try NYC's broken windows theory method? Why can't we try any of these? Whatever they are doing isn't working. I'm not trying to be a D%#@, but I am starting to get a lot more worried.

I plan on having an event there, so I have watched the opening process, and I have dined there twice already, and I really like it there. They are still in the soft open, but the place looks amazing, the food I have had has been great, and it's refreshing to have a nice open waterfront venue in JC. If there is an issue, why don't you kindly give some feedback to the manager or staff? Were you perfect on your first 2 weeks of the job at your current position? Give them a chance. There were 1 or 2 things that I might change if I was the owner, but they were small things like the size of the paper that the menu was printed on (huge), but I'm sure they will work all that stuff out, and if I get the chance I may mention it to them. I have also met some of the staff, and they have all been super nice. I definitely recommend it.

As for the Italian comments, read http://www.mar-jc.com/aboutus/ourchefs.html for the info on the Italian chefs, and they also had an Italian manager once when I was there, but I forget his name.

Yeah who cares really. You should be more upset at the "federal" reserve that rapes you your whole life....look into it.

But if you do care and it matters, I think (not sure) that GS has contributed a lot of money to downtown JC, or financed it. I'm not sure if it was by choice or a tax break or what, but they did.... and they certainly do compensate their employees.

I once had anger towards the wealthy, but now I am so sick of working hard for nothing, that I only wish I wasn't a jackass at 18, and went to a decent finance college, and got a job for GS.

As for the building, I had the pleasure of going in it once, and it is amazing. Their cafeteria is incredible and there is more variety in there than anything outside the building. The seating area also overlooks the Hudson and lower Manhattan. It sure beats the jail-cell without windows that I work in.
