that intersection of grand and marin turned into a dangerous rapid river during the storm. edwards had to have had at least 5 feet of water, and i'm pretty sure cicada had even more. i saw some people jumping ship from cicada around 7pm that night while the water was at their waists, and it only went up from there.

I'm sure a lot of people liked the food from that truck too.

And nobody seemed to mind when Ducky's and Dumplings was shut down for violations.

I understand the frustration some people have with getting permits in this city. But the law does apply to establishments, or in this case, non-establishments, that hipsters frequent as well.

.....what do hipsters have to do with any of this?

jeez. i'm the first person to throw out the "move to the suburbs" card over trivial stuff, but having lived along the bolivian parade route in the past i will vouch that while it is a BEAUTIFUL parade, it is unbearably loud. forget trying to make a phone call from inside your own home. the noise BEAMS through every orifice of the walls like nothing i've ever heard. you pretty much have to split town for the afternoon if you plan on being able to even think about anything that isn't the parade. i love city live and all the different events it brings to our neighborhood and i have an extreme amount of "urban patience" but i don't think that because this is a city it doesn't mean people aren't allowed to have ANY quality of life concerns. don't go away, just take the amps off of 11.

Baja on Montgomery has a zillion flavors of frozen margaritas. Kind of $$ but they make 'em strong.

i've been going here for years and have even previously praised them on this thread. but i ordered here sunday night, my receipt reflects a $25 charge and they ended up running my card for $27 as my bank statement shows. i don't mind rude service and even found humor in the list of things they DON'T have, but scamming customers for an extra buck or two crosses the line. NEXT!

i've been a tried and true c-town hater for some time so i really didn't expect to find myself in key foods ever either, but i will throw in a thumbs up for them. i've searched supermarkets high and low in this area for the salsa i ate in costa rica - lizano - but couldn't find it ANYWHERE (i swear, i tried) which surprised me given the large hispanic population. last week i found myself closest to key foods needing a few items and was SHOCKED to find my beloved lizano salsa right there on the shelf. boom. best surprise.

oh, and it's clean and has fresh produce and all that now too :)

a lot of the 'nice' restaurants in JC are very meat-heavy restaurants. i could take mom and dad out to dinner with no problem, but not so much a visiting vegetarian or vegan friend.

I've seen (and smelled) skunks on Grand St. twice in the past two weeks. I was also sitting in my living room, turned to my roommate and said "...it smells like skunk." she said, "i totally smelled that and thought you burned coffee." so yeah, they're here.

when i click that, it takes me to a page where i should "select" the amount of trips to add, but there are no options available. just a submit button. then when i press it, it says there is an error. my account must be broken or something. i've tried to register for a new account but it says my card is already registered, sooo. i guess i was just wondering if i was the only one unable to use the feature.

i was walking down grove street towards wayne when this happened. there were three gunshots, but i couldn't see anything. as i got closer to wayne, everyone was going about their business like nothing happened! i saw the ambulances and asked one bystander what happened so i knew it was definitely a gun, but no one else seemed even phased by the whole thing.

and yeah, why doesn't hard grove keep popping up? they have the worst service in all of DTJC.

you also can't DRIVE an unregistered car in JC. a friend of mine got a ticket in the mail (in Fair Lawn) after driving down Erie and the license plate readers got her.

i think the frequency of street cleaning is a positive thing. a lot of car owners who rarely or never use their cars are more likely to decide to not own vehicle so they don't have the hassle of moving it. you don't have people just ditching their cars and leaving it downtown. street cleaning once a week would make parking a bigger problem... as of right now it's not that bad. i'd hate to have a hoboken situation in JC.

ate here friday! delicious! more $ than the average JC joint, but also is a step above many of the other places as well. for 4 of us the bill came out to $140 but we had a number of appetizers because they are small. all of us agreed the food was divine, nice ambiance and quite busy. definitely a place for an "experience" or dining with friends and not to go when you're in a hurry. i ordered the gnocchi... wow!

finally tried this place tonight. my only suggestion would be that if you're close enough to pick it up, do that over delivery because our pizza basically arrived upside down with all of the toppings rolling around the box. it was pretty unacceptable but who wants to send food back when you're hungry on a friday night? anyway...

we ordered the hummus, the moroccan vegan grilled chicken pizza, and the moroccan vegan chicken wraps. wraps and pizza were spicy! i'd have to say their hummus was the best i've had from delivery in this area. i'm happy to see more places in the area sprouting up with vegan options on the menu. (i noticed the menu for parkside bistro had a decent list, but i still havent tried them out yet)

i don't have TV or phone package and my Comcast internet just went up to over $60 a month! and we don't rent a modem or have a fancy package or anything, everything is basic. is there a cheaper option downtown? i find it ridiculously high for internet-only.

wondering if anyone has a recommendation for my boyfriend for a primary care physician downtown? he prefers a male doc and hasn't had luck finding a local one who will take appointments and has either early or late hours (and he doesn't want to schlep to nyc or hoboken if he's sick) danke!

bummer to hear. i've had an unreal amount of mail go missing and i just don't trust a package to sit at my doorstep all day (or if they don't leave it and you have to track it down, ugh) if you have the option, send anything important to a work address or ask a friend who might be home when the mail arrives if you can use their address. i never have had a problem since i started diverting my packages out of jersey city.
