not that i disagree with the premise that city hall luuuuvs dtjc over greenville/heights/etc. but this is demographics at its simplest here.

who is most likely to use this? middle- and upper-middle class and commuters who most likely don't have cars. where are they all moving into? dtjc. where is the bulk of the young + new population? dtjc.

do 30 people get use out of this or do 10?

shrug

That is incorrect and if you made tenants pay for this, you are a slum lord.

From http://www.lsnjlaw.org/Housing/Landlo ... r-Rights-as-a-Tenant.aspx

The courts in New Jersey have said that it is a landlord?s duty to provide his or her tenants with a safe, livable apartment, one that is not infested with bugs or other things. This is called the ?warranty of habitability.? Unless the landlord can prove that the tenant caused a problem, it is the landlord?s duty to fix it.

If you live in a building containing three or more apartments, state regulations known as the ?Hotel and Multiple Dwelling Health and Safety Code? also say that it is the landlord?s duty to get rid of bed bugs if they are in more than one apartment. The Code also makes it the landlord?s job to take good care of the building in order to prevent infestation problems. (The number given by the state to the Code is N.J.A.C. 5:10-10.2.)

WOW, your landlord is paying for the treatments, that is great since they do not have to.
I have had some experience with this in Passaic and trying to coordinate with all tenants is a nightmare. Consider yourself lucky you are being treated and the landlord is actually doing something about it.

I have the same answer every time a question like this comes up: check the local big boxes. Both home depot and Lowe's have installation services. Give their millwork sections a call.

Why isn't everything just simply and directly connected to Fulton? So many escalators, stairs, and unnecessarily confusing passageways.

it's very easy, at least to me. there is a tunnel off to the side. follow the signs to the r train. that is the tunnel you want. dunno what to tell you, buddy, but if you think you're building underground tunnels in 2015/16 in downtown manhattan that are 100% directly connected to everywhere, i got a bridge to sell you.

The big hub? Where the 4,5, etc trains are? Yes you can. On the ground floor level, just past the moleskin store, is an entrance to that passageway

Haven't been in since the new closing the other day, but the connection to Fulton is very easy. When you exit the train, take the escalators up. Go out to the side under the giant whale carcass. Walk straight ahead through the carcass bones, up the stairs and out the doors in front of you - you are now in the tunnel that takes you to Fulton St.

On your right, you'll see the Cortlandt St R train. Ahead of you is Fulton St.

Sexual assault, then. The editor in me is satisfied. With that out of the way, yes, duh, I hope they catch the guy. That said, I'm not sure why this being in a "nice neighborhood" precludes this sort of vaguely non-violent crime from happening.

i'd be curious how much someone charges for this. unless there's something super custom involved, i'd be surprised if repairing didn't cost more than just buying a new one.

if we treated every space of land where wars were fought in the revolution, we'd have precious little land to live and work on.

hell, how many graveyards of both natives and non have been dozed over to make way for 'progress'? utilizing a park - that is there with part of the purpose being to remember its history - for things other than simply its remembrance is what should be done.

personally, keeping the zoning height seems dumb as hell. no offense to y'all in the village, but your views aren't the most exciting thing around, ya know. you've got a highway on one side, your neighbor on the other and... yea.

this isn't waterfront property or something where anyone really cares about the view too much about when they bought the place outside of still getting some light in one's yard - which is a perfectly valid concern, to be honest. but building up to 44, 50, 55, etc feet is not gonna wreck your life, nimbros and nimbettes. on my block alone, there are buildings of two, three, four and six stories. it isn't anarchy. no one's life has been topsy turvy.

i like that for example, the new construction where the old diner used to be by PS 5's playground is 4 or 5 stories (whichever it happens to be, i can't recall exactly off the top of my head). who gives the slightest of fux what height that building right next to the highway is? same with the one they're just starting construction on just across the street on newark. and the one on 25 division where that poor guy died a few weeks ago that's adding another story to the building.

they're phenomenal because they're on the edge of the area, so you won't even get anyone kvetching about the height because there's no backyards to get blocked off anyway. but even the existing ones - an extra 20 feet up here and there is not going to kill anybody's crappy view, the slightly less amount of sun you might get as a neighbor? tough titties. you'll live. move the high-light plants to the other side of the yard.

It depends completely on what needs to be done. Are you rewiring? Tearing out the plumbing? Putting up all new sheet rock throughout? What are you putting in it? Higher end products or cheap stuff?

Way too few details to give you a good answer

nice to know the very few times i need some obscure hipster vegetable or something that only they have, i won't have to go into the city to get it.

95%+ of my grocery shopping will still be done at shoprite, key foods, tender shoots/p&k on newark and the farmers markets, but good for the people who like paying more for the same things.

One: according to google maps, and obviously that isn't always current, but the house in question is a 2-story one. Was it torn down? An addition put on? GM tells me it's the brown building next to the empty lot here, which is not three flights. I'd be mildly suspicious of an addition to an old building like that.

Resized Image

Two: how much?

Three: ignore the nonsense that the other guy is yapping about re: JSQ and families. you're under half a mile from JSQ - I've got a friend that lives two blocks from that address and I've walked his place to JSQ a bunch in ~10 minutes. You're blocks away from PS 6, there's a small playground on Palisade, Christ Hospital is right there, you've got a bunch of buses & jitney van routes right nearby, easy highway/tunnel access, near a bunch of decent places to eat (get delivery from, too) and Pershing Field is like 8 blocks away.

That place is actually about as family friendly as you can get in the heights.
