When I read "the" original thread as it was being written I knew it was a joke. It reminded me of War of the Worlds which was done live on radio back in the olden days> People were in a total panic they were convinced we had been invaded by aliens.

OMG. Every cop is a criminal and every politician is a low life. I deal with people publicly urinating in my neighborhood who really don't know better. I hope Lipski resigns. He has made a fool of Jersey City and its residents.

I am one of 5 children raised by a single mother. We were on welfare in the early days when I was 4 years old. When we were all in school Mom got part time work and then full time work.
We all became responsible adults and members of the community. It all starts at home. Parents have to raise the expectations and not back down.

If the problems occur after 10pm then enforcing the curfew would help assuming the persons were under age. However, these shots were fired duing the day.
The police do not enforce the curfew because they have to stay with the children until a guardian comes to get them. We know the guardians are not really guarding their children are they would not be out shooting up the neighborhood. So the guardians are likely no where to be found at 11pm or 12am or 1am and therefore the cops have to stay at the station house until they do come. Instead, they should be out in the community where they are needed. It's a mess. I also believe the police and municipal government are very cautious about how far they push things because of the fear of lawsuits.

I am a white woman and I bought in the Junction area 4 years ago. Moving here was a big adjustment of cultures for me having lived in NYC for 20+ years and in the Heights for 10 years.
I am the minority here and I probably stick out to some degree but you know what - so what! I am not so concerned about crime because that happens everywhere. What I am concerned about is the attitude some people carry around. But on the whole, it is a working class neighborhood with more and more people buying and moving in and wanting to make a difference. Yes. Whitlock Cordage and Library Hall Lofts are here. Down the road there is going to be a huge park area built at Garfield and Communipaw. I say go ahead and buy. If you want to discuss feel free to send me a PM.

Bergen Communities United is a large group of various block associations in that area that actually prepared a "master plan" for their communities.
Carol Arnold Harrison is the President of the Monticello Development Corp. I have heard that though that avenue was designated a Main Street by the State of NJ, property owners are in disagreement over something and for the life of me I cannot remember what. That I am told is holding up the planned development. We have recently formed a new group called the Bergen Lafayette Junction Neighborhood Coalition.
