Can anyone recommend a reliable and consistent cleaning service that you've used for a long time? A service that is bonded/insured is a must. Looking forward to responses or PMs.
Thanks!

It's a move that makes no business sense and is destined to fail. If the company can not afford the move or higher rents and doesn't have that type of cash flow, they will go under quickly.

They would need a huge immediate surge in business to stay afloat. If the owners don't have the money to invest in their own business and are relying on donations of a few thousands bucks, that says all you need to know.

This type of business is not going to see the type of sales increase they will need to stay in that building and will be gone fast. Their best move would have been maybe to move into one of the cheaper spots in an existing building or to increase marketing efforts for their current location in hopes of getting more sales until they can actually afford to make this move without begging.

Still can't believe nothing but crappy shops are moving into this prime real estate. Half of them - probably this one, won't see an upswing in business and will be gone within first two years. This is not what the area needs.

Restaurants / Bars / or a Deli would be much better suited for that spot.

I suppose the liquor shop will do fine... but surprised they just refurbished the space they are in now to move across the street.

You guys are acting like they are putting this thing downtown or something. It's in Liberty State Park. This is not AC. I for one would look forward to it.

This will not change anyone's lives here and not turn JC to AC. It will bring a crowd to Liberty State Park, make some cash for the state, and the owners.. and thats it. The ghetto you seem to think it'll attract won't be wandering your neighborhoods.

Again, this is not AC or some place in the middle of nowhere. I think Yonkers and Queens have survived their casinos just fine.

But I guess we need to complain about something.

You mean, instead of four failed stores.

Also note that Fulop's vaunted plan to extremely limit chains downtown would not prevent the media company from opening.

Yeah, even if it was a chain, it's part of that large building, so would not fall under that. I'm just baffled why that media company thinks it's a good idea to take 3 store fronts that likely have very high rents.

Wonderful. So a media company needs to take up 3 store fronts in prime downtown Grove Street? Can someone write a letter to the editor on how lame that is that they are f'ing up our downtown?

Over the past week or so, I have heard two or three people raving about the wings at BWW. I have visited two different locations (not in this area) and have not been impressed, at all. I don't get the love for this place. If nothing else, I think it shows that anything above mediocre will do well in this area, given the poor choices. I honestly don't know of many good places where to get wings in this area, even after visiting many, many bars, pubs and restaurants. Locally: Talde and Bon Chon are good, and so is Cluck U. Regionally: Pok Pok (in Brooklyn) has good wings, any Korean fried chicken place (especially when ordering drumsticks) is good, Atomic Wings is decent (are they still around?) and I have had good wings at a few local bars/pubs (Jack Demsey's, on 33rd, stands out, and the Lincoln Park Bar and Grill, on 56th and 9th Ave)

We just don't have good wings in this area, and BWW is sub par. Outside of this area, but close enough: Quaker Steak & Lube (a new location opened recently in Edison) and Moriarty's in Philadelphia. In fact, I have had chicken wings all over the world, and I don't think I have ever had better wings than the ones in Moriarty's: the wings are PERFECT (huge, meaty, moist) and their fries are good, with a ton of really good draft beer choices.

Personally I like the variety of sauces they have at BWW. I haven't been disappointed unless you the wings come out and aren't fresh. Also as an avid sports fan, I like the environment to watch a game (or fight). If there was one in this area, it would clean up for sure.

Locally Cluck-U, Whitestar, and Boun Apetito are pretty decent.

I suppose if Wonder Bagels was looking to expand further (5 current stores), and added another 5, they would be a chain as well.... god forbid. we wouldn't want them here anymore.

Am I missing something? How do 10 stores merit such a law that will surely harm landlords who need stable rents (and who can blame them for wanting high rents) and will disallow us from shopping in stores that we may well want/like?

GNC
Starbucks
Chase
.. all probably would be exempt from this as they are in large buildings, but all popular businesses.

So I suppose McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts would both be out if not presently there already. I guess Subway & GNC would be allowed if it's considered part of that large building (coincidentally the only businesses on that block on that side of the street that have been able to stay in business and afford the rents).

Obviously, all above businesses do very well and many people like them.

I guess we should go back to the old mom & pop deli type store that was in that Dunkin Donuts spot that turned over and was constantly empty at least 2-3 times in the last decade?

This is a stupid, non-nonsensical ordinance which hopefully disappears soon.

Big Fulop supporter, but this is just stupid and a major discredit to the consumer.

Look at the block on Grove between Columbus and Wayne, which is prime commercial real estate, and now is 90% vacant as results of mom and pops not being able to make it. A1 is gone, MYPXPLX (however the hell is spelled) gone, the stupid furniture store gone, hard grove gone, flower shop gone....

So us consumers are going to be forced to overpay for stuff we want?

The amount of life that something like a Buffalo Wild Wings would inject into that area if one were to exist would be phenomenal, and I'm amazed one isn't here yet. It is silly to attempt to prevent such a thing from occurring.

Re: UBER - car service in Jersey City

Not really a hard concept. If you do the math, these guys do not get paid much at all. That said, it's their choice to be an uber driver. They work whenever they'd like and have all kinds of flexibility. It's probably something that is best to be a second job and easy way to make a few extra bucks on the side as opposed to relying on it as a main income source. So I have no pity for drivers that are whining about this.

However, if I have a driver that has a good personality, and I get great service, I'll through them $5.

This. This is bulsh!t. I know this is how it's going to end up working and its shite. I tip them when I go to the airport or if i have an odd request, say, a quick pit stop or picking up a friend in route. but for a straight $7 fair, I'm not handing the guy another three bucks for fear of my rating.

And since we're talking about ratings, has anyone noticed the quality of cars and drivers going down? I feel like 3/4 used to be aces but now, it's more like 50/50.

I'm really not so sure that this will be the future model. I've used Uber in many cities (and International) and everywhere but NYC the drivers say they are not allowed to accept tips. So who knows.

Agreed, lack of tipping likely will give you a lower rating and make it harder to get picked up.

I think it would be useful to become an uber driver for the sole purpose of being able to find out what you and your friends rating is.

I just learned something very unsettling today. When you use Uber except for Uber taxi, there is no tip included. I assumed there was - on the profile you fill out when you open an account, you are asked if you want to leave a tip and how much. I was a newbie at the time (I guess we all are) and didn't realize it didn't apply to UberX. One driver today was so distraught about the misunderstanding that she posted a sign in the back of her taxi.

Uber's position is that you don't need to tip since the driver gets a majority of the fare (80%).

Was anyone else under the same misunderstanding? If not, should tipping be customary based on Uber's explanation? I believe in tipping and am usually generous, but this is an entirely different model.

Not that it matters, but adding a 20% tip would negate any savings over other taxis.

Uber says you are not supposed to tip, but most drivers I've talked to greatly appreciate them as they get paid crap. That said, I've had uber drivers in Boston tell me that they are not even allowed to accept tips.

Went there tonight, around 7. Was surprised to get a table right away. Food was good, however, it seemed the service was completely overwhelmed. It took them about 40 - 45 minutes to get the appetizers (party of 2). It took a total of about an hour and a half to get the one entree that we ordered.

During the 40 minutes or so that we were waiting the entree to be brought out, we had empty beer glasses on our table for a good 20 - 25 minutes without even a glimpse from any of the waitresses as we were trying to get their attention.

It wasn't just our table either, they were extremely slow for all of the tables in the back room.

Hopefully its just growing pains and they will get it together.

Sorry to be blunt, but if I was a condo owner the building, I wouldn't even consider allowing this for a minute unless there was some significant benefit to me, I'd be shocked if they allowed it.

They likely would all have the same reaction as everyone here, why would you buy the place in the first place if it wasn't big enough, and now your going to inconvenience me because you aren't satisfied with your investment - even more from a jealous point of view, why would I allow this person to make his condo larger when I don't have that opportunity myself.

If I were you, I would get your neighbors thoughts before you spend any resources on the idea, because likely you've already spent too much time thinking about something that is likely to not happen, and then if you start spending cash to have designs done, it likely will be a waste. I say this as I've seen something similar occur in my old apartment. A developer bought the place, spent about a year trying to do a massive renovation on the place, spent lots of money getting plans done, approvals from historic board, etc.. The city wanted him to redo the sidewalk and plant new trees, etc... was all a waste at the end and the developer just sold the building instead.

All new concrete on the sidewalks has to be that dark grey color. The slab on York, pretty certain that is what the historic board is making everyone do (it's not like the owner picked the color or had a choice).

Maybe in 100 years or so we'll have all grey sidewalks (of various shades of grey).
