Funny, I've never had an issue parking my car near Newark.

We had our moving truck right out front on the cobblestone street. Let management know when you are moving and they will reserve the elevator for you.

It's illegal because you do not have adequate egress in case of a fire. If there is a fire and someone dies you will most likely be serving jail time.

Banks will not lend to you with illegal apartments unless the appraiser overlooks it but I wouldn't hold my breath since the implementation of HVCC aka the Home Value Code of Conduct.

I know it's sacrilegious to talk of raising the gas tax but honestly our gas is so damn cheap compared to the rest of the country. I'd be willing to pay another 25cents per gallon if it fixes the budget and gets the tunnel built. Jesus, we don't even pump our own gas. NJ caters the car driver more than any other state in the union.

Talk it up with the neighbors and whoever you can and remind people: "It is easier to stop these people from obtaining a license. Once they have it, it will be near impossible to have it revoked." To Whom It May Concern, I live on Wayne street around the corner from Hard Grove Cafe and read in the paper about the Entertainment and Dance License(s) that they are trying acquire. I have spoken to most of my neighbors regarding this situation and EVERYONE feels the same as I do. We do not want Hard Grove to recieve it for several reasons: 1. The noise pollution. As it stands every holiday/special occassion/event is used as an excuse for insanely loud music til late (1-2am). Most of us like myself have small children. They post speakers on the outside of the restaurant as well as in. 2. Street congestion. During these events you cant even walk on the sidewalk around their establishment you have to step into the street to pass. 3. Irresponsibility. It is my understanding after speaking to a patron of theirs that the owner herself was packing alcoholic drinks in TO GO cups for sale and letting people leave with them. This is highly illegal and they should be fined for this. If you dont believe me you can inquire with the JCP dept. as they are fully aware of what occurred recently. Everyone enjoys entertainment now and then but if we wanted the constant hassle it brings a family community, people such as myself would not left ny to live in Jersey City. SORRY, I too live on Wayne Street and I see nothing wrong with it. I will actually support it. It's on grove and columbus. Probably the loudest corner in downtown. This is where these types of establishments are supposed to be.

Just a thought. I've heard that the Newark Bears don't generate much interest and do not get large crowds for games. So with that in mind I have been thinking, how do you think a minor league baseball team would do in JC?

Now I know there is not much room to put a baseball stadium ANYWHERE in JC, let alone in a desirable/convenient location in JC, but it's kind of neat to think of how cool a 15,000-seat stadium would look on or near the JC waterfront with views of NYC, JC, and Statue of Liberty.

Somewhere between Jersey City and Hoboken would actually be a pretty cool place - walkable from JC and Hoboken.

Just kind of a random pipe dream I suppose, from a big fan of the game of baseball. Thoughts?

Tommy my brother- They already got the Staten Island Yankees and Staten Island is basically an extension of Bayonne. You can see the whole NYC skyline in the outfield. You should check it out. I had a blast last time I went.

To prove that your dog has had it's rabies vaccination. You can not register your dog unless you produce proof of the rabies vaccination.

They walk through my building knocking on doors to hear if dogs bark and then come back in the evening to try and catch you home to see if the dog is registered.

I personally had fun telling the guy to stuff it when I produced my valid dog license.

My issue is that JC has the resources for checking dog licences but can't stop people from running red lights and blowing stops signs.

That's not them. I live on Wayne and see this train-wreck drunk drug addict couple basically everyday.

The guy is prob 6'3-6'4 shaved bald, Hispanic who now walks with a limp. He didn't have that limp a few years ago but I started noticing it about a year and a half ago. In the summer he wears a long white T most of the time and baggy jeans.

The girl is prob 5'3-5'4 with muffin tops spilling out her shorts and tank top. I noticed the tank top because her arms are usually covered in bruises. I've seen her numerous times with black eyes. She is usually the more f'd up one and has a hard time stringing a sentence together.

Don't ever walk by them if you are smoking a cigarette because they will definitely ask you for one, even if they are currently smoking one.

I've seen them screaming at each other in the middle of Jersey Ave, passed out drunk on Wayne just west of Jersey, on Newark screaming and calling out the manager of Sawadee in front of a ton of customers, and just walking all over downtown causing all types of drunken drugged up mischief.

I'm interested in hearing more of their back story if any oldtimers know more about them.

Christie Cancelling Trans Hudson ARC tunnel

Sources Say New Jersey Gov. Christie to Pull Plug on Hudson River Tunnel
Tuesday, October 05, 2010
By Andrea Bernstein

http://beta.wnyc.org/articles/wnyc-ne ... ll-plug-on-hudson-tunnel/

The $8.7 billion trans-Hudson river transit tunnel project is expected to be killed later this week by Gov. Chris Christie, according to several sources familiar with the project. Barring any last minute reprieve, Gov. Christie will announce later this week that he's pulling the plug on the transit tunnel, known as the ARC project, which would have connected New Jersey to Manhattan.

New Jersey has already committed $2.7 billion towards the project, with the rest coming from the federal government and the Port Authority. Construction got underway in June 2009, but last month, Christie halted the project, saying he wanted to review costs.

Now several sources say Christie has made up his mind that it's just too risky -- and that he needs the money for roads.

Speaking at a campaign event for Republican gubernatorial hopeful Bill Brady of Illinois, Christie says he's made no decision -- but he made his thinking clear.

"I was alerted to the fact that there were potential for significant cost overruns, and New Jersey's broke. And the federal government made it clear that New Jersey will be on the hook for any cost overruns on the project," Christie says.

NJ Transit, the Port Authority, and the Federal Transit Administration declined to comment.

On Monday, New Jersey's top transportation official said the state might divert money from the ARC project to Garden State roadways. Transportation Commissioner Jim Simpson told legislators that the state could reallocate more than $2 billion from the project.

"You've got that billion coming in, $100 million a year, that is rededicated, flexed to ARC," he said. "So if ARC didn't happen, there's a billion dollars, a pot of money, for roads and bridges and things like that."

But the region could lose $6 billion from the federal government and the Port Authority says those allocated funds are specific to the project. Simpson said the decision to continue or cancel the ARC tunnel would be made on its own merits.

Simpson made his comments before a legislative committee. The committee approved a $1.7 billion financing package, allowing work to resume on other road and bridge projects around the state after a one-day moratorium.

Of course SH was s*** on by the DTJC crowd I guess it reminds them all too much of the suburban life that mommy and daddy provided. Funny I am a JC lifer all of my friends and their family?s moved out of ?nasty? JC to the burbs years ago. It is so nice to now see every one of my friend?s kids coming back to ?nasty? JC to buy or rent. If they knew that their parents and grandparents let their JC properties go for next nothing they would s*** themselves! Especially the friends who sold their DTJC 4 story brick row houses for 40K.

***
To the comment about SH and PL being isolated:

From what I remember PL is isolated. I have been to The Point a few times for dinner and saw only a few small stores inside PL?s walls. I would guess you would need a car to get to anything good. Funny I could shoot myself, years ago when the PL project went bankrupt they couldn?t give away the condo?s. I think they were selling the remaining condos for around 50K. (that?s 5-0 not 5-0-0)

SH is a totally different story it is not isolated in the least bit. Everything you need is right there. You can walk to any number of these fine establishments. (can you walk to any retail in DTJC, is there any retail that lasts more than a few month?s in DTJC?).

Stadium Plaza - Pathmark, Stadium Pizza (the best pizza in JC), K-Mart (the coffee in the K-Mart Caf? outshines Starbucks Crap-o-chino any day of the week!), Ruby Dollar Store, National Wholesale Warehouse, Pathmark Liquors, Pet Land, Nail Place, JC Diner, Wendy?s, Shoe repair, Dry cleaners. (a lot of SH?ers skip Pathmark and food shop in the Bayonne South Cove Mall?s Stop & and Shop a few miles away)

Danforth Plaza - Vinnie?s III Pizza, Wonder Bagel, Chinese Fun Buffet(gotta love the name), Rite Aid, Laundry/Cleaners, Subway, PNC Bank, Hair Place.

Bayonne City Line - Mickey D?s, Dunkin Donuts, Walgreens, Banks, Car Rental, DMV, Domino?s, Meat City (don?t ask).

Up the hill on Danforth ? Jule?s (great Italian food), Old man snot bar?s, Florist, Bakeries.

Across the highway you have Home Depot and Raymore and Flannigan.

If you are fit enough (they just put in a new side walk along rt 440 from SH to Lowes)you can walk over to the Hudson Mall, Toys R Us, Movie Theater, Pizza Hut, Applebee?s, Lowes, R and S auto, 440 Farms, Party City, BK, and lets NOT forget POPEYES!!!!.

Sounds like SH is very ?pedestrian friendly" right hipsters? And sorry there are no bike shops or second hand stores in the area. (Hmm although K-Mart has a sweet bike section and National Wholesale has some nice discontinued stuff)

SH isolated I think NOT!! And if you think living in SH doesn?t give you that ?urban living experience??just go over to Pathmark on the first of the month. You will get enough ?urban living experience? to last you a life time.

More on SH?.
- 3 phases maybe 1450 units.
- Phase 1 nicest. Feels more open. Has cement block construction between units. There was a fire in one of the buildings back in Jan 2010. The fire was contained to just the one section of the building. Three units were damaged. The fire was on the second floor. The first floor unit suffered water damage. The 3rd floor unit smoke and some fire damage. The ?match stick? construction held up.
- Phase 2 most of the units have garages, streets are narrow, feels closed in.
- Phase 3 (Droyer?s Point) they are the expensive condo?s, really nice but not for $500K. I don?t need a $30K elevator I?ll take the stairs!! (Prince the Pimp lived in Phase 3, hmmm gotta look into the pimp?in life must pay well) This phase is the one that is having on going problems with fire sprinklers.

Chromium - Phase 1 didn?t have any contamination. Phase 2 had some but it was cleaned up and taken away. Phase 3 had the most contamination it was capped with a clay barrier. (hmmm)The big chromium dump is across the highway from Home Depot, that is where the old factories that produced it were located. They have been carting away the soil for years now. Also they just started the soil cleanup process on the property next to Home Depot. Both areas will be included in the new Bay Front project. (see below)

Don?t forget the people in SH know what their units were built on it was all documented in the purchase agreement. People in DTJC and other parts of JC don?t have a clue. (yes you are all clueless, especially the crew down in New Port, see what NP was built on) The yellow chromium waste from the factories on Rt 440 was given away free to contractors who used it as fill on construction projects. It is ALL over the city. Funny they also gave it to residents claiming it would make their vegetable gardens bug free..no DUH! I can just hear Billy Mays pitching the yellow powder now..Great for your gardens not only does it kill pests it will make your vegetables grow 5 times in size!! Amazing!! But wait! There?s more! (we miss you Billy)

To clear up the urban legend of people glowing in SH ..they don?t. The popular show Myth Busters did a piece on it once. They asked 100 SH residents if they would like to take part in an experiment. They took the 100 residents and herded them into a large empty factory. They turned off the lights and not one of the residents glowed. Adam and Jamie were quick to declare the myth about SH people glowing..FALSE!! (although Jamie did make them turn the lights on and off 3 times to be sure, he claimed Buster?s nose glowed) Would it really be all that bad if you glowed? Just think of all the money you would save on your PSE&G bills. Night light? I don?t need no stinking night light!)

Smell from across the bay ? There was a tallow rendering plant across the bay years ago. Look it up if you don?t know what it is? quite foul. (here?s a hint did you ever see those garbage trucks with pieces of meat and fat hanging off the back? Get stuck in traffic behind one of those beauties on a hot day..PU) On hot summer nights the smell was smelly to say the least. (?oh oh that smell?) The SH Assoc. gave all the residents the number of the EPA. Every time the residents ?smelled that smell? they called the number to log it. The place kept getting fined to the point where they I think went out of business or installed some kind of anti stink equipment. So sorry Pepe Le Pew.

Population Nice mix of people, friendly, young and old, retired and just starting out. Refreshing to see hot young hard bodies at the pools in the summer..err..oops never mind that part. A lot of cops, firemen, teachers, politicians, and other city/county workers.

Transportation Society Hill bus stop right outside the gates. 5 minutes to Westside light rail station, 20 minutes to Journal Square. Five minutes to Bayonne New Jersey Turnpike entrance by car. I think there are also private shuttles out of Phase 3. If you like you can also get rides off of the SH old timers who have nothing else to do besides their weekly AC trip. They would gladly give you a ride for free if you would just listen to one of their many ?stories?? maybe the bus is a better idea.

Noise What noise..if your neighbor is noisy you just rat on them to the SH Association and they get ?fixed? immediately. No year long Christmas displays or garden gnomes down in SH either!! Put a garden gnome out and the SH Assoc. will be all over your a** in a NY minute! Travelocity gnome don?t even think about it!

Schools/Sports Our Lady of Mercy grammar school across rt 440 in Country Village. Marist High School on the JC/Bayonne boarder. Country Village District 7 little league baseball. CYO flag football and basketball.

Garbage pickup there is none you bring your trash to the recycling center. There are shoots for paper, glass, and trash. You don?t have to deal with looking at people?s gross curd side trash while walking down the streets. No dirty diapers plastered to the street. No cat ripped open plastic bags displaying rice, coffee grinds, banana?s, tallow (did you look it up?) and God only knows what else. And no dam 2:00 am garbage truck noise!! Also no need to track down your trash can in the morning. I hear some people in JC actually have LoJack attached to their cans.

***
PS ? I will give you a hot tip. If you have some extra cash buy something by SH as an investment. (if you don?t want to live there then just rent it out) Check out the Master Plan for the area the project is called Bay front. It goes from SH down to the Hudson Mall. Hopefully some day it will get built.(I am banking on it!!)

If 30% of properties are in this boat, maybe I should chill as long as the space is safe and potentially legal. But I've enough experience with Buildings dept to fear what could happen if I came on their radar.

It's a big no-no for the banks if you try to get a mortgage on it. You may get away with it but I wouldn't count on it. I do a lot of 2-4 unit properties and this comes up from time to time usually when purchasing from an old timer. I have my client or the realtor remove the stove and fridge prior to the appraisal. As long as the gas lines are capped you should be OK. Some banks make you remove the cabinets as well. You can use a 3 as a 2 and a 2 as a 1 but not vise versa.

I posted your full quote. Simply put, posting race is unnecessary. It doesn't help the JC police find the perps. If they don't feel the need to post race, why do you think you know better?

So you mean to tell me that if someone just gets attacked, mugged or whatever, and the only description is "white t-shirt and a hat" that's enough? What about "hispanic male, approximately 5'9", white t-shirt, shorts, tattoos left arm, seen heading north on Erie St., etc? That would be racist I guess right?

The police publish the info that they need to identify the perps. For potential witnesses, the JC police believe that's all they need to publish to jog potential witnesses memories. If they're not putting out a "America's Most Wanted style all-points-bulletin" why mention race? They're looking for witnesses at the scene, at the time. If you were there at the time, you'd get the JCPD references. If you weren't, it's meaningless. That's a good thing imo.

Publishing race on every single mugging, bar fight, or whatever really achieves nothing except reinforce stereotypes.

There are too many armchair critics on this forum

I respectfully disagree. I understand where you are coming from but this has nothing to do with stereotypes. The person's race is part of that person's description. If your family member was in the hospital would you like to know the person's race that harmed him or her?

Let's not give the JCPD credit for their sensitivity.

Please post his info or if he has a store. I would prefer to buy them from someone local as opposed to going online. I got the idea from him so I would like to give him the business.

Sure, rest of the class read chapter 2 while I go over this with jaah37.

Manhattan is the big draw, very few people are going to travel from Manhattan or Brooklyn to visit Jersey City. Many people that live in Jersey City do so only because it is close to Manhattan, they live here but work and for the most part, shop, drink and eat there.
They live here because Jersey City offers them something that Manhattan can't, a lower rent and/or more space.
If you want to bring people to Jersey City to spend money you have to offer something the big city doesn't or can't, not the same thing.

Sorry Slacky,

I work in NYC and for the most part try my best NOT to shop, drink or eat there. I do of course have drinks and dinner in NYC but I tend to try and stay in JC as much as possible. AND I actually have plenty of friends that like coming to JC to eat and drink. They like going to Tacqueria and the beer garden a lot. Barcade would be another draw from NYC.

I for one am sick on Manhattan. Lived there for years. It's full of college kids, D-bags and tourists now. I spend my time either in Brooklyn or Jersey City as do many of my friends. I can afford to live in Manhattan but I choose to live in JC. No NYC income Tax, no NYS mortgage tax when I bought, and I can be on the beach in less than an hour without waiting inline at the Holland Tunnel.

This is a great addition to downtown, Newark Ave in particular.

My neighbor recently left a job where her former employer owes her around 15k in back commissions that they have not paid. She came to me for a NJ attorney referral but all the lawyers I know work in NY only. Are there any NJ attorneys that the group can recommend that specialize in employment law? She may have been discriminated against as well.
Trying to help her out since she is very upset about it.

Thanks

So how does this affect us in Jersey City? Didn't these bozos make up some BS ordinance to get around the tax cap anyway? What good is the tax cap if the local scum bags find a way around it?

Sooooo it seems the solution is just to install 4 bowling lanes in all the bars...
