Who are you to pick an argument with me? Would you say this to my face, or do you just sit on this list and pick fights with people on your laptop like a coward? You know nothing about me so mind your business.

As a St. Dominic's alumna, I am appalled that my school will have staff and students accepting money from Spectra. Spectra Corporation and what it is doing here in JC goes against everything I was taught at St. Dom's. It is possible that St. Dom's and the other schools are not aware of the pipeline situation. I plan to contact the school to make them aware and urge them to reconsider accepting money from Spectra.

If any of you are graduates of St. Dom's, Prep, or the other schools please contact them and ask them to reconsider taking money. It's a very small amount of money, so it shouldn't be hard to change minds.

If I have to look at students from my Alma Mater taking a check from those Spectra people, I'll puke.

dead cat on bright st

There is a dead cat at the end of Bright St. near Grand St. It's across Grand St. from Edible Arrangements where Bright St. becomes a dead end. I'm posting because it looks clean and well-fed like a housecat. It's a pretty tuxedo. Someone else on the street called animal control, so that's where it's going.
I hope it's not someone's kitty. So sad.

Any recommendations for a place that sells salads, and catered dishes for a small party? I'm looking for something other than the usual pasta salad and ziti. I'm willing to venture into Hoboken if necessary.

I just received a phone call from a telephone research company regarding the pipeline. The name of the company is National Research and they asked about whether I support the pipeline. If they call you, please give them your time and have your opinion count. the girl on the phone said that the information goes to the federal gov. The number comes up as "private number" on the caller ID.

My obgyns are Comprehensive Women's Care in Englewood - Drs. Jaffe, Freidman, Schlossberg, Patrusky, and a new doctor ( forget the name, but I went to her once for gynecology and liked her a lot). they practice out of Hackensack, Englewood Hospital and Palisade Hospital( I think). They are great. All went to top schools and are highly professional and smart.

I delivered my kids in Englewood Hospital and loved the hospital

We have one too, and they are legal. If you want to check the specifics on safety and regulations you can call Fire Prevention.

Wait the Lane answer is not (JC)correct, I think we would want Lane's Jersey City name. The name he used when he was kicking around JC...before he made it big.

For a bonus how about the story of why he needed to change his name.

His name is Joe Lane. He went to Prep with my brother-in-law. MY older sisters remember him being in their production of Mame. I thought he got the idea to change his name to Nathan Lane because he had the starring role as Nathan in Guys and Dolls. Don't know why he had to change it.

I take back anything I said about the basketball court situation being exaggerated. I went past the eastern side of the courts last night, and that area of the park is totally littered with garbage.

I was wrong. Last night, the litter in that area looked worse than it was before the park was renovated.

HPNA is trying to get a list of volunteers to help clean up the litter.

I have kids, and I have spent a lot of time in the park over the past three years. I have never once seen or even heard of an incident involving the guys playing basketball. So some of them are slobs and litterbugs. Big deal. So are some of the parents, kids, dogwalkers, and everyone else. Every time I'm there I pick up trash that kids and parents in the playground leave around. I've seen the litter under the bleachers, and it is disgusting, but no more disgusting than litter in the playground and certainly no more than dog pee and shite on the grass.

The basketball court has been packed with guys enjoyng it every time I've been down there, so that shows that there is a need for it.

There may be some problems with the basketball courts, but they just don't seem extreme enough to warrant the amount of complaints here. It seems like there might be something else is at play, and we all know what it is.

Quick math here.... 8 million divided by 82 equals approx $100k per position correct? Does that seem a little on the high side to anyone? I've been reading too many articles lately about cops, firemen, and teachers making over 100k in NJ. I wish I knew that before I pissed away all of that money on undergrad and grad school!

Please don't include teachers because plenty of them pissed a lot of money away in grad school too. And, yes, it does seem like a lot of money for a high school grad to make. But, to me, when you consider that they go into burning buildings and/or get shot at, it doesn't seem like that much money after all.

Folks,

Please leave the poor "icey lady" alone. She's been a fixture in that park for years. She's a very nice woman, and all of the kids and parents like her. Cut her a break, and let her make a decent living.......she's not bothering anybody.

getting a cab from NYC

I'm taking my elderly mother into the villlage tonight for a party. I will need to get a cab back into downtown JC at about 11:00 p.m. I haven't taken a cab back from the city in a long time. Are most cabbies still willing to drive back into JC, and do they still do double the meter plus the toll?

I wouldn't worry too much about the PREP kids. They'll grow up to make a lot of money and marry skinny little women who shop in Whole Foods and feed their husbands organic chicken. I'm a little more concerned about the kids at Ferris or Dickinson. Statistically, they're the ones who are in trouble.

We wouldn't need to raise taxes or lay off teachers, fireman, cops, etc. in this state if we did something about GRAFT. For the amount of money New Jerseyans pay in taxes, we could pay teachers and cops as much as CEO's.

Beg to differ. I know what my daughter in grade two is learining, and it's equal to the other schools in JC and Hoboken which charge double the tuition. I'm a certified elementary school teacher, and I couldn't be happier with the methods, curriculum and staff at OLC. My kids are doing exceptionally well and score in the top percentiles on the standardized tests. OLC must be doing something right.

Can anyone share feedback on the Resurrection School. I don't know a single neighborhood child that attends the school?

My oldest daughter is going into grade 3 there, and they have not raised her tuition. Starting last year, they raised the tuition for grade 1 because there is a full-time aide in there.

My daughter attended Resurrection School for a few months in pre-k 4. Sr. Barbara is very nice, and the staff is caring. However, they try to keep the tuition down, sothey don't offer as much as OLC. The academics are not as strong either. but the school doesn't offer as much as OLC.

OLC does have a waiting list, but not necessarily for all the grades. They have two kindergartens now, so there may be openings. It is best to move fast, and talk to them about what is available. If you visit the school and like it, it's good to put yourself on the waiting list. Jersey City is a pretty transient place for families, and spaces open up frequently. This applies for most schools in JC that have waiting lists.

Check out the OLC website. I don't know the address, but just keyword OLC school Jersey City. Looking at the teacher web link will give you some idea of what goes on in each class. Also, visit the curriculum fair on May 25. You'll get a feel for what the kids have been doing in each grade.

Definitely check out OLC school ( Our Lady of Czechohowa) on Marin Boulevard near Grand St.

My two daughters go there, and we are very pleased. It's probably the best Catholic grammar school in the city.

I would definitely say Bayonne if you have kids. It's true that there are lots of mom and pop stores, nice parks, better schools, etc. I lived on 48th St. near the park for a year, and it was very nice. And Mama Rosa's on Broadway is a great family friendly restaurant.

Where is the Accountability? Where are the Community Leaders?
Where is Viola Richardson? Where is Sandra Cunningham? Where is Charles Manior? Heck Where is Al Sharpton?

Is anyone going to step up and take some accountability?

I feel bad for those children that do want to learn, most don't stand a chance as the leaders in Jersey City are failing them.

The public school system once worked well in Jersey City, my dad went to Lincoln, he must be turning over in his grave. I went to Ferris and on to college to a successful working career.

Jersey City once had leadership that cared!

Either our leaders step up, do their jobs or Jersey City is doomed.

It all starts with leadership, from the Mayor to the Parents.

I've lived here all my life, and I'm no spring chicken. I think the government and schools have always s****ed. And just like most decent people who come from JC, I think you and your Dad learned and became successful despite the schools and environment, not because of them.
