I do feel bad for SC who's getting hammered with rain. They're calling for 1 inch over the next 7 days now for us.

Most of the models seem to now be aligning with Euro. Let's hope it keeps up!

Dr. Brescia and his affiliate doctors in Hoboken. They deliver at Englewood, which is a stellar labor and delivery hospital.

Sorta unrelated, I find the visual for the cone and the storm's potential path to be incredibly misleading. They center the hurricane icon in the middle of the cone, which leads you to believe that's where the eye/hurricane is headed to make landfall. Instead, they should just remove the icon and show the cone.

And FYI, according to Jeff Masters, you can't trust Canadians :)

"According to the 2014 National Hurricane Center Forecast Verification Report, issued in March 2015, in 2014 we had two track models that at times out-performed the official NHC forecast, a feat that is tough to do. NOAA's HWRF model did slightly better than the NHC official forecast for 2-day and 3-day forecasts, while the UK Met Office's forecast did slightly better than NHC's 4-day and 5-day forecasts. Once again, the European Center (ECMWF) and GFS models excellent performers, but the GFDL model, a excellent performer in recent years, had substantially poorer forecasts than the other four models. The Canadian CMC model and simple BAMM model had accuracies comparable to the GFDL model. The European Center model and GFS models were virtually tied as the best performing models when averaged over the three-year period 2012 - 2014."

Hello fellow storm watchers and flood survivors, I believe 4 pm is when they'll have some more data from them flying into the system.

The next week is gonna be a mess, but it's all about the rate of rainfall too... and since the ground could use some saturation and we are shy 8 inches for the month, let's hope no one sees any major issues.

I'm also on 5th and can attest that we got no notice of any work other than the no parking signs Fri. We certainly had no awareness that PSEG would need to enter our homes (one guy walked into my place without knocking). They were going door-door telling people they needed access to certain areas of the home and to leave doors unlocked otherwise they would lose gas for an extended period. I think overall people are reasonable if given a heads up so you can plan accordingly. That's not happening here.

According to this site below, JC got between 3-4 inches over the last 2 days. For those people who follow the rain/flooding situation in JC, does that seem accurate? I ask because I would LOVE to start gaining confidence that our intersection, after much work by the city, has finally improved enough to handle large rain storms.

We own a similar property and have thought about the park impact on our living. First, it'll take years for it to come to fruition, if it ever does. And as others have noted, the benefits of being near the park would be huge. I plan to be involved in any planning/community organization that will undoubtedly be formed to ensure residents have a say in the proposed park plan(s) and governance of it.

We got a side of carrots there one time, and I'm not even kidding, they were dumped from a baby carrot bag and had melted butter poured over them. If those carrots even touched a pan, I would have needed to see it to believe it.

Sorry, but I highly doubt an Applebee's (or whatever chain restaurant) will go for changing their menu when chains pride themselves on consistency. They want customers to know if they get the "flaming chipotle onion belly bomber" or the "chocolate lava torpedo cake" in the middle of Minnesota, they can get it in JC as well. They also prepare their food consistently across locations so even just refrigerating a whoopie pie from Cocoa would probably be an employee and process change they would be unwilling to take on.

Third dinner at Osteria last weekend -- with a large party. All of our first course plates, which we shared, were delicious. My son and I shared a pork chop special, which we saw the waitstaff tasting as we came in as they opened. Judging by the looks on their faces, we knew whatever they were eating was making them very happy. My sin and I agreed. Everyone else loved their pasta dishes.

They could use some accoustical work, but the kitchen is consistently fine.

Good to know about the Osteria - thanks for your review. The grocery is really 2nd tier, IMEO. Twice the pappardelle ruined a meal (it was free the second time because I told the guy how awful it was the first time). Perhaps they are trying to discourage consumption of bad carbs. The person cutting the cheese, in the literal sense, cut the rind off a rind-washed cheese) and then cut it parallel to the edge (there is a reason cheese is cut in wedges), the bacon was twisted so tightly that when I wanted to use it it had fallen apart into strips of fat and lean. Most if not all of the cold cuts (affettati) are American and can be found in any decent supermarket. So much of what is happening in JC has just the veneer of quality and competence, like this place. Just one man's opinion, I encourage you to try it for yourself. Personally, I've no reason to return since I pass by Citerella and WF a few times a week.

Twice now I've gone to get pasta there, and the same dude measured wrong...either out of stupidity or laziness. The first time I asked for a pound, only noticing when I got home it was 3/4. The second time, I asked for 3/4 and he started closing the bag at .59. I stopped him and he said, "ok, you want just a bit more?" Yeah, asshole, I want three-fucking-quarters!

Did anyone else have debit card problems? I was the very first customer, and the machine had issues.

Good on you, Voyeur, for getting behind Monty. I do not know the guy, but I am disappointed at the number of JC List contributors who like to joke about businesses that are slow to get their doors open. It takes a great leap of faith and much financial and emotional strain to open ANY business. There are MANY forces to overcome. Delays are not a laughing matter. I took a glance inside in the spring. As far as I can tell, a beautiful, unique space is being created. We should all wish him well and thank him for further contributing to a great, diverse Downtown scene.

I *think* you fail to understand why people comment (and, joke, or make light) of the usual business delays in opening in JC. It isn't that people do not understand or appreciate the hardships and obstacles associated with opening a business. It is the expression of our collective jaded experience... our Buildings Department is regarded by many as the ultimate obstacle for most entrepreneurs. I certainly do not make fun of business owners for failing to meet their expected opening dates. I make fun of the absurdity that is getting inspected and approved to open your doors. Over the past 10 years, it would seem like most new restaurants and bars missed their expected opening dates by many, many months, sometimes years. It is so ridiculous as to have become laughable. Our mayor ran on a platform that, among many things, promised a more streamlined buildings inspection process free of corruption. I am sure there are differing opinions on the progress on this campaign promise, but it would *seem* like things have improved. Over the past year, we have had many new places open in what could be considered record time (by JC standards) and welcoming guests by their announced opening dates. Let's hope things stay on track and we can look forward to many more businesses opening their doors and making all of JC a better place.

for a textbook example of the JC Buildings Dept torpedoing a business before it even had a chance to succeed, see Ox.

+1 - I still feel awful for the owners of Ox, one of whom we've become friendly with after being regulars for the short time they were open. I do think businesses are opening more efficiently now than before. I believe if Ox were to have opened now, they would have been able to stay open. They were one of the first more forward-thinking/contemporary restaurants, in terms of cuisine.

Now we've got Box Spring.

Re: TALDE JERSEY CITY

We went and really enjoyed everything. I keep thinking about the lobster tom ka, shrimp salad and crunchy salted chocolate cookies, and we went 2 weeks ago.

If you're prepared for a wait and can enjoy the bar, it's a good experience. I can sorta see what ppl are saying about it being noisy, but my husband and I had no real issue hearing each other.

And as for proximity among patrons, you're much tighter in a space like Madame Claude, which, I get, is a different experience. But for us, it wasn't that uncomfortable sitting at the communal table because we eat at MC all the time, and are accustomed to being close to neighboring customers.

What's the deal with reservations at Talde? We didn't think they took them and then friends were there on Wed and they asked if they had them.

When you look on OpenTable, they have nothing available 6:30-9 for a month out (any night), and their voicemail message says reservations for 6+?

Anyone know?
