Thank you although I know exactly what they are. The point is they drain to the river during rain events, which is why the car washing in driveways was not recommended.

We don't have storm drains. So unless you wash it during a storm when the sewers are overflowing, you're good.

We don't have storm drains? WHAT? There's one on, like, every corner.

This bridge was planned long before the LSC expansion, but I'd agree that it's the final touch that makes it a "done deal". I remember talking about this bridge pre-2010, I believe. Definitely well before Sandy.

Cities nationwide (in fact, worldwide) are tearing down their highways that tore neighborhoods apart (Embarcadero San Francisco, Harbor Drive Portland, Park East Milwaukee, Alaskan Way Seattle). And, JC has long touted its growth as being "without an additional lane of downtown highway". This would be one of the most regressive and short-sighted things that the City could do.

The fact that cars speed on Grand Street is a two-fold problem. First, enforcement. Second, design. A street that wide subconsciously encourages drivers to speed. Despite what the layman might think in terms of accommodating vehicles, reducing the number of lanes there would be beneficial to the safety of the street. Why should we care if waterfront-bound vehicles can get there from 14C in 10 minutes or 15 minutes? I don't - I care about the safety of the neighbors, the aesthetics of the street, and my neighborhood.

Getting to JC via a mode other than a car should be prioritized. This includes improving and expanding mass transit. The idea (on another thread) of splitting the 14C tolls to two exits and two price points (one for downtown destinations and one for Holland Tunnel-bound traffic) would also help, maybe not with getting to the waterfront but for reducing the use of local streets for through-traffic.

note: when Daniel shortened my sleeves he did it in a way that eliminated the actual working buttons and cuff "slit". This was not revealed ahead of time. I got them back and wasn't annoyed enough to complain, but it should have been disclosed. For the price I'd probably do it again but it's not the "ideal" way to tailor...it's an ok shortcut.

For future reference if anyone else has this question, it costs $25 at Daniel Tailor. He's taking it up from the cuff, not the shoulder which I imagine would cost a lot more. I'm pleasantly surprised with the price.

I need to take several suit coats in to have the sleeves shortened. Since I have a few, I'm concerned about cost. Generally I go to the guy on Grove St. (and have never had a problem), but have since become aware of someone else, I think on Monmouth or Brunswick....

Anyone have any idea what this might set me back? If nobody knows I'll post here once I found out from him in person for future reference.

Anyone still not get the channel after the re-scan? All of my 4.x channels are crap now. Used to be clear as day.

The question is returned back to you if you are foolish enough to pay for cable in 2018. You do know that with an antenna you can get 50+ channels, plus if you wish supplement with any number of online services?

this is OTA, not cable. BUt, to answer your question in case you have any OTA tvs, it's somewhere in your tv menu, varies by tv. Has nothing to do with cable.

I've gotten it at ShopRite and Key Food, but I'm not sure if they have it all the time or only sometimes. They likely have it at La Conga, though you'd need an oxygen mask to enter. A bit more off the beaten path I bet 99 Ranch has it - I know it's an Asian market but their produce section is vast.

I have no experience with Metrovet, but should I ever want to change I'll keep that in mind.

I've been quite pleased with Downtown Vet (1st St.). They have lots of vets and while you don't have to stick with one, if you or your pet has a favorite it's easy to call in and find out when he/she will be in next. Plus they take walk-ins and mid-week I've never experienced more than a 10 minute wait.

I was quite unhappy with the vet on West Side. They kept improperly diagnosing a problem with my pet's paw - which ok I get it, some things are hard to diagnose - but basically refused to consider other causes or treatments even though what we were doing wasn't improving his paw. (That's when we went to Downtown vet and the paw situation has been fine ever since.)

it's cute how they did "an aggressive and deliberate search for an experienced and dedicated candidate" yet hired someone from Hudson County. Not that it's impossible, but sure seems unlikely that the exact right person for the job was right here in your own backyard all along.

Re: Moving Boxes

Just going to put this out there - I know using salvage boxes from the curb is tempting. But those can possibly have bugs in them. I did it once and brought them inside to find a roach. Fortunately it was just one (who knows if there were eggs?) and I got all of the boxes out of my place before using them and putting my belongings in contact with possible bugs. But, understand the risk. If you can find someone who just moved themself and you can take the boxes directly from their house to yours, it's probably cleaner than ones that have been sitting who knows where for who knows how long, even if they look ok.

Re: Parking authority DOES NOT DO ITS JOB

There's a possibility that this is a "friend" of the P.A. THere's a car on my street who routinely parks directly in front of a hydrant. From time to time, a parking authority "buggy" will pull up aside it, and a period of time will pass where my best guess is they're calling in the plates, and then they drive off without ticketing.

It's insanity. Not only because someone is getting off, but because they're blocking a hydrant.

If every resident called the school board (elected officials, I might remind you) to demand contracts, methinks the protests would stop sooner than later. So, yes you can do something, and yes that's the point of their behavior.

What's insane is that taxes were not increased for decades. The new rates are not insane, it's just the abrupt shock of them that is.
