I had a little run-in with this lady at the shoprite this weekend.

She was blocking an entire shelf with her cart and herself, so I had to squeeze my way in to get what I want. My tote bag mildly hit her when I passed through.

She went "Excuse you!". I looked over her
Then she went
"Yeah. I am talking to you! You should excuse yourself when you run into someone!"

I said "Well then, you should excuse yourself where you park your cart".

She said "Uh-huh. You almost knocked me down! Excuse yourself F**kin' A**hole!!!"

I was so surprised how aggressive she was, so I just said "Have a nice day" and left, which she didn't enjoy at all.

The store is like 3rd country war zone.

not to nitpick, but what did you expect would happen if you bumped into someone who im guessing is larger and tougher than you without saying 'im sorry'? ive bumped into people at clubs and actually said sorry, and ive gotten an earful - i cant imagine what would have happened if i chose to blame them instead.

next time a quick sorry instead of trying to place a blame might save you from something worse than a shouting match.

while i dont support such a response from someone at shoprite after being bumped into, im not 100% surprised by it either.

it doesn't relieve management from doing that. the 'crazy' part was trying to rationalize why the people did that in the first place. i dont know why management wouldnt do anything about it though

i happened to be in hoboken when all this was going down. the amount of police response to this was overwhelming, to say the least:

i saw almost a half dozen undercover cop cars swarm the area (including a lincoln town car, which is going to make me think twice before trying to pass a limo car late night)

dozen or more ambulances by sinatra park setting up a triage

at least a dozen hudson county sherrifs walking around by the waterfront

EMT's (i believe) wearing shirts that said 'special ops'.. not gonna lie, i was going to try to buy or barter one of them for those shirts. pretty kickass

a ton of firefighters

jersey city emergency services unit truck

department of homeland security truck

humvee with 2 soldiers in full camo driving around washington street

either there's more to this than the media is stating, or maybe they did state something (i was out all day afterward so i stopped listening to the reports).. or this is juststandard protocol now for even seemingly small incidents like this. signs of the times i guess

I don't believe anyone here can dispute that helping another fellow human being out is a good thing for society. Whether simply offering a seat up to a pregnant woman, or one carrying a baby, or moving over to allow a young child to simply stand in the front car to enjoy the view from the window....it's everyone's duty as a citizen of humanity to try to be nice to each other, because kindness is infectious, as is nastiness. SO the less nastiness the better for all involved.
Now, on a safety front, pregnant women and fathers/mothers holding small children are already off-balance. Do you really want to contribute to one of them possibly falling, hurting themselves, the child, or the unborn baby when the train jerks about? Simply because you were self-righteously thinking 'bout equality or whether the child is riding free vs. your paid fare??

If an adult male is holding a large, unwieldy package on his torso, (similar to a pregnant woman is) then I would hope that a fellow rider might offer his seat up, as would I, to anyone I see might need some help.
Let's not take it all to the women VS men talk, it's not really the point, is it? (for the record, although I always declined because I never really needed the seat, I rode the PATH throughout my pregnancy, rarely being offered a seat, or a pole to hold on to. The handful of times I was offered, was USUALLY by a woman and usually they mentioned they had children, so they were also mothers.)
Just because some folks decided to have children, and others did not, is not the point, with child, or childless, we need to think of how we can contribute to the overall happiness and wellbeing of our society, and not try to take on 'tit for tat' or 'not my problem' attitudes.

the burgers at juniors papaya (1 block away from the five guys in hoboken) tastes exactly the same to me as five guys.

ill give you that they both taste better than mcdonalds and BK. and ill also give you that their burgers are huge ( i ordered the double at five guys and it was ridiculously large), but it's not all that different than any other burger at a decent bar and grill

the obvious solution here is for someone to drive into the traffic light and knock it down. they'll be forced to put it back up, and maybe they'll change it to the right color one and turn it on. so whos got a large, old car they wouldnt mind crashing?

agreed, the residents (including those posting on this site) are free to call it whatever they want. i doubt the residents of the area in question refer to it as 'downtown' anyway. but when someone makes a categorically incorrect statement (i.e. the city does not consider it as downtown either), then the statement should be corrected

if you want something more 'official', look at the map that separates the city into wards:

i wonder if the people in the projects voted for fulop - that'd be a hoot... oh wait they probably didnt vote at all right?

You can "define" downtown any way you please, but most people here use the term to refer to the part of town east of the highway and south of the tunnel.

Click on Historic Downtown and notice the borders. It is not just me and the residents that grew up in Downtown, the city defines it as Downtown as well.

http://www.destinationjerseycity.com/maps.php

that map just proves the fact that the projects are in historic downtown. the map sections are divided by color. each district is a different color. notice how bergen lafayette and jsq are a different color than 'historic downtown'. now notice that the area of the projects (west of the turnpike) is the same color as historic downtown. make sense?

the weapons that the police were supplied were sufficient for the task. didnt the reports say the gunfire exchange happened when they were opening the door? remote detonation devices / explosives should be made available to ESU / SWAT teams to break down doors, in addition to tear gas or other noxious chemicals to disorient the perp. if they can use tear gas on protestors, why not on a perp that's holed up in a room?
