I met Omar Perez before the pipeline meeting. He seemed like a nice kid who was afraid to buck the machine. Sounded like he had already been brainwashed.

Ride the PATH late on Sunday night. You almost always find people puking on the train.

I don't see why the two are mutually exclusive. I believe we need to wait until Spectra files the application (likely December) to seek intervenor status.

In my opinion, Jersey City cannot do this alone. We need state support from all sources to be successful. Where is the NJ Environmental agency in this?

Considering the city stands to lose a lot of money long term if the pipeline goes through, the city should do whatever it thinks is appropriate to help the situation.

Here is a letter from the Coast Guard saying that Spectra should expect delays if they use the water route. Where are the NJ environmental agencies in all this? Did Christie tell them to not get involved?

Here is Senator Cunningham's speech:

The pipeline runs through a lot of high density public housing. Unfortunately, the word did not get out to those residents because I do not believe they spoke up at the meeting.

The Port Authority has been very active in the process and there was a Port Authority representative at the Jersey City meeting. They have serious interests to protect. You will see comments on the FERC website from the Port Authority on the record before the August 20 deadline.

As far as the Turnpike Authority, my understanding is that they are asleep at the wheel. I tried calling them to complain and they said that they were ok with the pipeline. I have no idea what is going on here and why they are not concerned about having the pipeline under their elevated highway which is a main escape route from the area.

I called the Turnpike Authority and ended up speaking to the engineering department. They said they had no problem with the pipeline.

(732) 750-5300 is the main number.

You can access the current FERC docket record with comments and filings here:

Just reporting a car break in at 1st and Merseles. They took a GPS. Perhaps it was the Spectra pipeline people that committed the crime.

My favorite part of the Healy speech came around the 7:15 mark. See link above.

Here is a Jersey City resident talking about the terrorist aspect of the pipeline:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgZeRjC3Dn4

The second speaker in this video is the Jersey City Planning Director. He presented a lot of good statistics and was well spoken.

Here is a Jersey City resident wondering why Spectra was not providing her with any answers:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=easUSQFx1FM

I missed the beginning, but this resident was great and spoke about risk management. He performs risk management for a living.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpSPYFP8b98

This resident spoke about corporate groupthink and how it is difficult to stop a monster like this within a large corporation but someone has to do it.

Marcy Boyle of LeFrak regarding the economic impact the pipeline will have on Newport. I thought the Newport businesses did an excellent job of coming out and making it clear how damaging the pipeline will be on the businesses in Newport. LeFrak in particular stands to lose a lot if this pipeline gets built through Newport. And, therefore, Jersey City stands to lose a lot if it gets put through Newport.

At the meeting. Perhaps 250 people. I agree that Healy was very good. Before the meeting Spectra kept complaining about the difficulties in going through the water.

The pipeline goes right by some large condo buildings including Crescent Court and 700 Grove. Hopefully the residents will come tonight.

I believe someone from Menendez' office will be there. It is very important to have a strong showing to make an impression on elected officials.

I cannot get over the fact that The Home Depot outside the Holland Tunnel is not permitted to sell propane, yet Spectra is proposing to build a high volume, high pressure gas line right next to the Tunnel.

What a joke. It will reduce development and they will bring in out of towners to do the specialized work.

Move this project to New York City. Let them go through Brooklyn instead of Bayonne and Jersey City. Then ConEd can get all the hookups they could possibly want.

Look at this Spectra pipeline go through the water.

http://www.spectraenergy.com/what_we_ ... ses/us/assets/gulfstream/

I was looking at Spectra pipeline maps. It does not appear that they have EVER built a pipeline under or over a subway line like the PATH. Difficult to tell if the line near Boston crossed their subway. It appears to go around it though.

Newport has critical backoffice infrastructure for the financial industry. If the pipeline comes here, I am concerned that financial companies will be afraid to have offices here which will hurt the tax base.

There are still only about 200 comments for the project on the FERC website. We need as many people as possible to come out for the meeting tomorrow.

It is bad enough that we have issues with patronage at City Hall, but it sounds like the School Board may be worse. All these people are supporting Epps because it benefits them personally?

I have not been at one of these meetings, but who are all the people screaming at Waterman? What do they have to gain by keeping Epps?

Any concerns should be presented at the FERC meeting or filed as instructed during this initial comment period. We need to get them to move this pipeline to Staten Island. I think this pipeline is going to happen. It is just a matter of where it is placed. We need to show that Jersey City is the wrong place for it and that there are alternative places for it.
