You can't come on here and make a statement like that and then say you don't want to have a debate!

Enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving weekend.

Wow... you must be associated with those other haters here... like the Hamilton Park scuffle...

Why so negative. What do you have to prove?

If anything direct your attention to City Hall and our sh**y taxes.

I just wanted to welcome you to come and visit us. If not that is fine too.

FG

my turn to say WOW!

I am not sure what I said that was negative.

The smiley was meant as a friendly smile indicating i was joking. If I was being 'hateful' or 'negative' I am sure I would have chosen a different emoticon.

This is a discussion board; a debate might have been interesting. You can, of course, come on here and say anything you like (within reason), but to me it was quite a strong and surprising statement and you shouldn't be surprised if someone reacts to it, which is their prerogative, also.

The exhortation for you to enjoy the rest of the weekend was sincere and I repeat it again.

Sorry, I was using odds as a verb. It is a colloquial expression which may not be familiar to everybody. I looked in my dictionary and couldn't find it

'odds' is being used in the sense of 'being at odds with'

So, 'you can't odds it' means 'you can't avoid/deny it'. In this case you cant avoid the fact that damnation is part of Christian belief unless you believe in Universal Reconciliation or Annihilationism which are minority Christian beliefs

I'm thinking of something like Mark3:29 or Luke12:10. I can't find the passages that I am thinking of so those will have to suffice.

Damnation is damnation. You can't odds it. Either you will be damned or you won't. Most Christian churches do believe in damnation.

I think you were thinking of "strumpet". Crumpet is a non-judgemental term similar to nubile.

A woman of loose morals can also be a "slag" but I definitely wouldnt eat that.

Slight difference between councilman and mayor. I don't think Fulop would have won this time, and I suspect neither does he or he would have run.

The point is kids vote for kids

Curious to know where the high maintenance whiners and professional complainers on this thread are currently eating in a similar price range that is obviously so superior. It's often the very casual diners that are the first to get out there and stick the boot in, it seems.

So the bottled beer and wine by the glass list are a little sad at the moment. The food has varied between OK and very good although I have only tried a few items in two visits.

So did you also shop at Newport Mall? I thought if you had receipts for your purchases at BB&B/Shop-rite they would have to give you your car back unless they claimed you were also shopping at 'the mall'

The terrorists are already willing/expecting to die, maybe not quite execution style but I doubt that incident changed their resolve. Unfortunately that police operation was very flawed. But I do wonder when you find something suspicious, what happens next and how long do you really have to do anything about it and make the right call. If you shout a warning and it is not understood or the person decides to run because they are an illegal (as the police claimed) we could see repetitions of what happened in London.

That's a good point. Suppose you detect something that looks like a bomb that a middle-eastern looking person has strapped to themselves under their middle-eastern looking clothes. How do you go about apprehending them without them setting it off? You pretty much have to shoot to kill, don't you?
Like the London police did to that suspect who turned out to be an innocent Brazilian electrician.

My friend says it's "because it's racist" but I'm not sure if that's the reason it bothers me, or if it really is racist. Thoughts?

I do love their steak tacos though!

I've tried the Taqueria a number of times and been disappointed in the quality each time. I don't get what all the fuss is about.

What bothers me is not so much this case but when I walk to my polling station virtually all the notices outside are in Spanish.

I assume illegal immigrants are not voting and new citizens are required to demonstrate a good knowledge of English so why the need for these notices?

These notices must be aimed at people that have been living here for many years and have not picked up a working knowledge of English. How do such people follow the political debate which is conducted in another language? I assume they rely heavily on others to tell them how to vote.

Don't be shocked. As other posters have mentioned there were
many people sitting outside M&P, Beechwood and the Merchant on Sunday. I dont know why the OP didn't see these people and seems to focus on the lack of people outside Majestic. Maybe we should take his observation skills into consideration when considering the comment about the relative attractiveness of women in JC & HOB. Some guys find younger women more attractive in which case I would understand but not agree with his comment. Always seems to be more of the sporty female types in Hoboken, prancing down the street in their track suits (in not always an entirely convincing manner).

Why is it there are always about three of them standing at the checkout area but only one of them is taking purchases? The others are just farting around and fiddling with packaging or whatever. It always takes much longer than you think it should and then they want to try and sell you something you don't want EVERY time.

There is a fine line between helpful & friendly and intrusive & obsequious. I dont want to be asked if I want any help finding something all the time. You don't do this to people in a bookstore so don't do it to people that are quite happy browsing for DVDs/CDs etc. Are people in record stores more stupid than people in books stores? Is that the rationale?

That's a stupid remark. I know plenty of people who live in Hoboken and work in JC, and we've hung out after hours downtown.
[/quote]

You weren't supposed to take it literally. I was talking in the general case. Our mileage varies, I know many people from Hoboken that have never been to JC. It is even more of a bedroom commuity than JC. I guess you have to meet people from from Hoboken outside JC (duh!) to realize the extent of the "problem"

Quote:
And even if your premise were true, ask ourselves WHY would they visit JC? For the shopping? Why on earth would they come to Newark Ave (for the 99-cent stores?) when they have Washington Street as well as a much nicer, cleaner Shop Rite?

I really don't care. I was answering the question why people from Hoboken don't go around dissing JC. The answer is that
(for most of them ) JC is just not part of their consciousness. If I were to address the question "why would they want to come here?", for one thing, I think we have some better top end restaurants than they do. Of course they are unlikely to discover this for themselves and I am quite happy that it should continue that way. Incidentally, Garden of Eden was great when it opened, but I've noticed that the produce has become a bit scruffy more recently.

If you are having to use that much hyperbole to try to make your point you are struggling. Complete truth? I do think we are entitled to a better truth than this crass static image. A movie apparently is a much lower form of art that apparently can not be truthful. I thought it was obvious that this was a Polish film intended for the Polish audience and not a hollywood movie of pure 'entertainment'. Perhaps I was not making myself quite so obvious. And what purpose do you think it would serve to make a film that was untruthful or do you think for a moment that it wouldnt be ripped to shreds in its home country that has suffered from the stain of this event, not just from the loss of those killed but the struggle to be able to speak the truth about what happened for decades afterwards.
That, my friend, is what the whole film is about, not what happened and how it happened, but the struggle for the truth. The what and how is shown in the last 5 minutes of the film. Is it the whole truth? Of course not.

Quote:
the master of the obvious anti-revisionista, who can't see the (w)hole for the t-t-towers or the "bayonet in the back" for the ham-fisted metaphor.

I don't see what a statue erected in 1990 has to do with the towers. The bayonet in the back was not lost on me, in fact I did point out it was making a political statement or did you miss that? I dont believe this is aimed at Russia any more than it is aimed at Britain and the US for having apparently done nothing about the massacre. The question is what exactly could/should have been done? That is what annoys me about the statue, the Polish community here did not have to struggle to tell the truth like their compatriots and yet the monument we get is not one that says "help us remember the dead" but appears to say (I said appears to say) "we won't let you forget".
