I blame the dog owners and the basketball players.
jk

While I do notice trash from time to time, I do think HP is better than a lot of urban areas. and yes, the trash cans are not emptied enough, esp during the warm months.

The guy at Christos (bodega at 8th and coles) says some McNair HS students specifically ask for bags for their pizza/sodas or whatever and promptly go outside and throw the bag on the sidewalk in front.

good opportunity to say thanks to all the Hamilton park volunteers.

Hardly a public flogging. And telling someone to check out the place of a habitual offender is not libel. Giving the address may have been a bit much and could of been PM's or say PM me if anyone needs the location.

This is what a community board is for. Someone complained about an incident and advice was given, and the HP association chimed in on what to do as well. And just because she has issues, while shedding some light on the situation, doesn't make it ok.

I was considering putting some plants in the front of my place and was already a little hesitant because of potential vandalism, and probably won't now.

Well, back to the subject at hand, you know, the bar.

Stopped in last night around 7:30 for a couple.

Much nicer on the inside. Nice brick wall in the back. Felt surprisingly bigger/spacious on the inside than I expected from
the look of the building.

Long horseshoe bar - no table.

Had a nice crowd, 40ish people. Mixed ages. The younger people looked more of the preppy or white collar than hipsters.

Only 4 beers on tap, unless there was another tap station i didn't see - Guinness, Yuengling, Blue Moon and I think Coors Light.

They had food. Only like 7 items and said they hope to expand it. Typical bar fare - hamburger, cheesesteak, wings, chicken fingers, nothing really for vegans.
My friend got a cheeseburger. More like a smaller one that comes off your backyard grill than something special, like White Star's. But cheaper so the price matched and it was tasty enough, and they had good steak fries.

Our Holiness, The Mayor, showed up around 8 and took a bar stool. A few people shook his hand but he was pretty low key.

Owners/bartenders were very nice and introduced themselves to everyone.

All in all I think it's a plus to the neighborhood if it succeeds and I consider it a +1 place to consider when going out for a drink.

I think an issue for people is, given what OX and Atomic Wings had to go thru, and during the time of corruption, at least the one that made the papers, people are naturally suspicious of them getting things green lighted quicker than other businesses. One could counter argue that the actual new construction of Ox and AW is what the hold up/corruption was and once it was zoned is why Box and Bon Bon were able to open quicker than its predecessors. This place would fall into that category. It's all speculation. Who knows. Healy brought this on himself by surrounding himself with those people.
If you don't go this bar only because of him that's your prerogative. And given what he's put this city thru I don't think many would begrudge you. I won't go the the fake co-op in Hamilton Park. It's not gonna make or break them but you can go to bed feeling better you stuck your guns.

They're pizza is alright. Nothing special but good.
The two guys are really nice.
They actually have really good dinner menu items. Like The Marsala and francaise. Comes with mashed potatoes or veggies, or pasta. Will give Carmine's a try.
that space was renovated and empty for about 2 years, so hopefully they got a good deal.

I go the the HP dog park twice a day; I've never gotten sick, but seem to when I visit my nieces and nephews.

But back to the subject at hand of someone crapping in the playground. This is why I believe residents shouldn't be allowed to own children or homeless people.

I haven't seen it open in a long while (6 months about) and the sign/awning is flipped back onto the roof.
Earlier this week I noticed some paint cans in there, and a neighbor told me this morning that the Music Box Bar, which is right next door, is going to take it over and open it at night this summer.

How is "Our worst enemy is the young ladies," speaking metaphorically?
What a back tracker - then he resorts to typical talking points. "education is the key blah blah blah."
Would be laughable if it wasn't my city .

or if he had a winning rather than embarrassing record.

You're right in the sense that sometimes $$ is the only thing people will respond to. They could double the fines, but until the police start ticketing nothing will change.

Since the Jersey City CAN change the state law, and you can't find it - wouldn't one have to assume that they didn't supercede the state law? Must every municipality put down on paper what state laws they aren't changing? Legitimate question, not being snarky either.

I agree that some of the parking laws are a little out there but they are the laws. Believe it or not common sense is applied in regards to issuing tickets like this.

While I agree with the sentiment that enforcing these laws to the T would not necessarily make sense in an urban area, I have to disagree about JCPA and common sense (never thought i'd use those two together in a sentence). There have been too many accidents on Jersey Ave alone this past year, and I'm still dangerously in the middle of the street at many intersections trying to tell if it's safe to go.

I don't see what's vague about it. 50 feet from a stop sign seems pretty exact. If you park in front of your house and it;s 50 feet from a stop sign or 25 feet from a crosswalk, you are, in effect, parking illegally and risking a fine. Just because they haven't ticketed for it before doesn't make it ok.

Re: Hamilton Park dogs

I walk my dog to the dog park every morning and evening and hardly ever see off leash dogs, must be my timing. The 3-4 times I saw dogs in the pet free zone I said something along the lines of "Careful, other people will get mad and yell at you." All except 1 guy went to the pet area.

As far as ticketing goes, call the cops but I wouldn't expect much. They don't ticket for people running stop signs around here they're not gonna get out of their cars and walk in the park to ticket anyone. Maybe when the weather gets nicer. OF course on the other hand the more people call on anything the more chance they may do something about it.

In the fox 5 report in the link above, besides that parking lot they go into one in Union City, where the city gave them a cease and desist letter because of their predatory towing practices. If they can why can't we (jersey City)?

How are the tow truck companies not abiding by the law...can you give an itemized list ? I have never been towed, as I only park there to shop at BJ's so it doesn;t affect me; if it does it;s in the positive as I can always find a parking space there. But to answer your question, the 2 main state laws they're breaking are 1. the owner of the lot must call the towing company (they're using spotters) and 2. They demand cash, under state law towing companies must accept credit cards. you can argue the merits of these laws, but the fact is they are laws and the towing companies are breaking them.
Scroll up to the fox 5 link if it's still active there are a bunch of others they're breaking as well.
