From what I'm reading we are screwed either way.

Excerpts from http://www.northjersey.com/news/gas-t ... ballot-question-1.1688548

"One of the bills in the legislative package Christie signed, A10, authorizes up to $12 billion in borrowing for transit projects ? but that borrowing is ?contingent? on Question 2?s passage, according to the non-partisan Office of Legislative Services.

Guadagno said the state?s Transportation Trust Fund is deeply indebted and that adding $12 billion to the debt load would increase costs for taxpayers down the line.

?A no vote is a vote against billions in debt without the means for repayment,? according to a fact sheet Guadagno posted on Twitter. ?A no vote will force the Legislature to reexamine the gas tax hike bill ? because the gas tax grab is tied in with the overall scheme.?

If the ballot question fails, the Legislature could simply pass a new bill to authorize the borrowing of any amount different from $12 billion, without linking it to a referendum, according to Chris?tie?s Treasury Department.

?Regardless of the outcome of the ballot question, the Legislature could still authorize more than the $12 billion currently being contemplated,? Treasury spokesman Willem Rijksen said.

Prieto said both houses of the Legislature would have the votes to pass that new bill ?in a heartbeat,? or any kind of ?cleanup? bill if needed.

Re: Republican Convention

I was interested to see if there was any proof, as a starting point I found this from politifact.com

"In a pre-emptive measure against potential conflicts of interest, the foundation signed a memorandum of understanding with President Barack Obama?s administration in December 2008. The foundation promised to report its donors in order to avoid the appearance of conflict of interest. Hillary Clinton also signed a separate ethics agreement with the State Department, pledging to keep her distance from foundation matters as secretary of state.

Emails from Clinton?s State Department, detailed in media reports, show how fuzzy the line was between the department and the foundation. Clinton took many meetings with foundation donors and offered assistance to several. And at times, foundation staff reached out to Clinton?s staff to inquire about opportunities for donors."

So all we have to do now is find the reports that specifically detail the assistance she offered.

Definitely giving up on trying to understand your point. If you think of a $14 burger as being too pricey, well... We have different expectations. As for the comment about $4 being 40% more than $10, I suppose you think of $1.40 as being entirely too expensive for the same product sold elsewhere for $1. Unless you are on a very tight budget, $4 is nothing in terms of price variations when it comes to eating out. There is a reason why statistics are so derided in so many sayings... they can be manipulated to try and illustrate a point. Of course, if we were talking about a difference in bills between $100 and $140, then yeah, that is a big difference and the comment about 40% would make sense.

Did I say anywhere that $14 or $140 is a lot to me? Again you are going off on tangents, this guy asked if their prices were reasonable, I only stated they are one of the more expensive restaurants.

This is fact, no matter how you try to spin it. It is not a reflection of me nor my spending habits. I happen to like eating at nice places, I'd pay $16 for a burger there.

The article you linked is also an opinion piece. It equates articles proclaiming gay nuptials as being some level of bias. I don't agree with that.

The reason the author thought that the Times was biased was because they only had positive articles of gay marriage. Whereas, other newspapers had critical articles as well,

"The San Francisco Chronicle runs an uninflected article about Congressional testimony from a Stanford scholar making the case that gay marriage in the Netherlands has had a deleterious effect on heterosexual marriage. The Boston Globe explores the potential impact of same-sex marriage on tax revenues, and the paucity of reliable research on child-rearing in gay families. But in The Times, I have learned next to nothing about these issues, nor about partner abuse in the gay community, about any social difficulties that might be encountered by children of gay couples or about divorce rates (or causes, or consequences) among the 7,000 couples legally joined in Vermont since civil union was established there four years ago."

Actually it might, if you believe readers read what fit their viewpoints then it makes sense. If the readership is liberal, that implies they are reading articles that coincide with their own views.

Right, and most Americans probably don't even read that part. But what is interesting is that the NY Times has the opinion pages so pronounced.

Other leading newspapers have their opinion headlines way lower (USA Today, LA Times, Chicago Tribune).

Even from another NY times public editor, "The home page is a good place to start. Anchoring its top right corner is the Opinion section, which promotes the columns and editorials of its mostly liberal writers. ?Readers know the difference between opinion and news,? you?ll often hear. I?m not so sure all do, especially when the website makes neighbors of the two and social platforms make them nearly impossible to tease apart.
Maybe we?re well past worrying about that. So turn to the drumbeat of Hillary Clinton campaign ads on the website. Even for me, who fully knows an ad from a news story, seeing Clinton?s smiling face when I?ve come to read the news can be rather jarring.
How about all the reader comments attached to political articles? On most days, conservatives occupy just a few back-row seats in this giant liberal echo chamber, not because Republicans are screened out by editors but because they don?t show up in the first place."

As people these days read the news that fit their views, this chart shows where the NY times stands

What's the difference?

Ultimately, the point (which others in this thread back up) is that the place is not any more expensive that most other places in the neighborhood. Particularly given the quality of what you get in food and ambiance and overall experience.

As for the price of burgers, I think any decent burger (accompanied with fries) at a sit down restaurant in DTJC will set you back at least $10 - $15. That's just the going price point.

Wow, you confuse me. Sometimes you come across as intelligent, other times like this, it's like you're reading only what you want to think you read.

What's the difference between more expensive and most? I need to explain that? And then you qualify your argument with adding ambiance and overall experience?

After I show you that $14 is kinda expensive for a burger, you try to group that $14 with the $10 burgers which is 40% more?!?

The guy only asked if the food prices were reasonable. This is a guy who was looking for a 2BR < $1600

Give up man.

I'd say you need to get out more... Lots of expensive places in JC, and particularly in DTJC. In terms of prices, this place is more or less the same as every other new place that has opened in recent years.

Off the top of my head, I would put Porto Leggero, Liberty Prime Steakhouse and Edward's Steakhouse as the most expensive in DTJC, followed by Batello on the Newport waterfront, and Maritime Parc and Liberty House in LSP. After those, I think The Archer is next in terms of higher prices. Then it is the rest of places into which Matthews fits in terms of prices. For reference, my burger was about $14, and I think the pasta (bucatini with rock shrimp) was about $18, with the lamb dish being the most expensive (I think) at about $25.

I'd say you need to learn to comprehend your reading more.

I said, one of the more expensive, not one of the most expensive. It seems silly to compare steakhouses and seafood restaurants to a neighborhood location. However I'll indulge you with the burger. Mathew's is one of the more expensive at $14 dollar burger. I had the burgers at Maritime Parc & Batello, guess how much they cost?

Wow, you seriously need to get your facts straight. I'm not sure what religions you might know, but mine isn't based off a fear of God. The main reason people don't like your ilk, is that your morality as you admit is individualized. How is anyone to know what depraved thoughts you may have AND rationalize.

Basic morals of Hindus include karma and dharma (google if unfamiliar)

Buddhists basically abstain from harming living beings, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying and intoxication.

Christians/Jews/Muslims - Some variation of the 10 commandments plus others.

A common theme among all these peoples is behavior that may make society a better place to be in. People like you, we are not so sure of...

How about if I've primarily read only the set of books most Americans call the "First Testament?" Would that make me less of a person. How about if I read that so called "First Testament" and even in my early teens realized that it was a bunch of malarkey, at least IMHO. And I decided I didn't believe any of it. Does that make me less of a person?

I think JC in its left leaning ways, listens to the small but loud voices. In this case, they decided to appease the 3% population by having Eid al-Adha a holiday. In NYC, Rosh Hoshanah and Yom Kippur are holidays as well as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

The fund is broke because the fund was raided and the money was used to fill budget gaps. The gas tax dedication was passed by the people of NJ as a use tax dedicated to maintain the infrastructure. The people that use the roads the most with the heaviest vehicles, pay the most tax.

We are also paying way too much. Look up the prevailing wage rates. A Class C laborer (janitor) is getting over $80k a year in compensation. What wasn't raided has been turned into a huge slush fund for the unions who then kick pack political donations to the people in Trenton who keep the gravy train going.

The state of NJ is running out of other people's money.

What kind of moron negotiated this for the prevailing wage,

"Prevailing wage rates are wage and fringe benefit rates based on the collective bargaining agreements established for a
particular craft or trade in the locality in which the public work is performed. In New Jersey, these rates vary by county
and by the type of work performed. "

Back from 2014,

"TRENTON, N.J. ? At $2 million a mile, New Jersey spends eight times the national average on its state-controlled highways, a heavy toll that is driving the tax-supported roadway fund dry and forcing officials to rethink how roads are built.

New Jersey's transportation project fund is nearly broke, and a handful of voices are encouraging the state to think about economizing as it refinances its ride.

Most of the talk has been about how to fund road and rail work going forward ? a higher gas tax, through the sales tax, probably some borrowing.

The Reason Foundation says New Jersey spends just over $2 million per state-controlled mile on construction, maintenance and administration, triple the roughly $675,000 spent by the next-highest state, Massachusetts, and more than eight times the national average of $162,200.

"This is out of control," said Republican state Sen. Michael Doherty, who made the report an issue at the state Senate's confirmation interview with new Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox.

New Jersey funds highway, bridge and rail projects through its Transportation Trust Fund, which relies on borrowing and gas tax revenue to contribute $1.225 billion to the state's overall $1.6 billion construction budget this year. By June 30, the fund will exhaust its capacity to borrow further and will be using all its revenues to make payments on $14.4 billion in debt. The state controls 3,338 miles of road; the trust fund also provides aid to counties and municipalities.

"It's just bad deals that have been made by politicians who get political donations from unions. Project labor agreements and prevailing wage artificially inflate the costs of road work," said Daryn Iwicki, state director for Americans for Prosperity."
