Re: Plumber?

I have always used Bracjewski (not positive on the spelling but they are in the phone book) - owner is John, plumber who comes to my house is Vito. Fast response, pleasant, reasonable - if they come for one big problem, they usually offer to fix any other little things while they are there (fussy toilet, slow drain) and only bill for the initial call and service time. They installed the hot-water heating system and boilers in my old house, and would come to light the pilots or whatever after the basement flooded (which it did, often - don't miss ya, Downtown!) - and never charged for it.

Thank you both. Shouldn't a simple ward map be posted on the city's much-vaunted website though? How else do you figure out where to vote and who your councilperson is.....well, on second thought, maybe that's the idea.....

Seems crazy but I can't find a ward map of the city anywhere. I just moved to Lincoln Park area and don't know what ward I am in now. Anyone?

Jus saw him headed west on Jersey in front of Carolina's Laundromat - in the red & black outfit, w/cane and hat. Had to explain to my dad (visiting from out of town) the significance of Tha Pimp!

I used to see Kyan from "Queer Eye" around all the time but not sure he still lives here, or if he really counts as a celebrity. I think the best celebrity in JC is "THA PIMP!" But he has his own thread.

Re: Need Help With Oil Tank Removal - Recommendations?

Fortunately I have not closed on the house yet so the seller is going to be responsible for removing the tank - I am just trying to help them out by recommending someone to do it.

I have found (as you all indicated) that I can't even get insurance from any reputable company with an underground tank, even if it were not leaking. So they are going to replace it with an above-ground tank in the basement.

Wish I could just switch to gas; however the oil furnace is almost brand new - replaced by the sellers last summer - so I can't ask them to absorb that cost - but I may do it at some point in the future.

This homebuying business has been quite the learning experience! I'm just thanking my lucky stars I had the tank & soil test done before closing so I am not on the hook for all this.

Woodsy & Nuada - you had both posted to an earlier thread that you had your oil tanks either replaced or removed - can you (or anyone else) recommend a good contractor to do this? I need to remove an underground tank, and replace it with an above-ground tank.

Any advice would be appreciated - thanks -

They are just getting ready to start construction on a new bldg by the WTC site - but it won't be ready for occupancy for 2-3 years - and my understanding is long-term plans include retaining ownership and partial occupancy of both buildings and leasing the rest of the space to other commercial users. Their new Manhattan building is one of NYC's keys to redeveloping the WTC area - GS threatened to pull out of the project several months ago unless concessions were made in the WTC plan to accommodate their security needs (covering a portion of West St etc) - and the city revised the plan to suit their needs.
