cats n dogs, you may want to email Melendez all that. his email is in this thread somewhere. i did, and he replied.

as for fellowes, this cat was a dark brown female. if you have a picture, PM me and i'll let you know. I truly hope it wasn't yours. I think it was a stray from our block, as i had seen her around before. this was not an indoor cat, and she had no tags.

i have a huge issue w/ this abatement change.

Condos starting in the mid 400's for 800sq feet? why don't these developers come down to reality? if you price them a bit more competively you may see them move. but no, they'll hold out for these prices thinking its 2006, and let the city take the tax hit. ridiculous, frustrating and absurd. and to the lovely quote as to what will it look like for one to go belly up? not sure, but there's plenty of other ones over there that seem to be hanging on. Although, with this ruling, i'm sure they're all gonna come running. this council just opened a can of worms.
time for these developers to wake up, and price these units accordingly.

WOW, seriously WOW. when you lay it out like that, how in the HELL is this man still in charge. Amazing.

The politicians don't want an oversight comittee, thats fine, at least put someone in charge who is not this man.

i'm speechless.

one last thing. I had a couple PM's asking me where we took her.

We went to North Jersey Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Lyndhurst, NJ
http://www.njves.com/html/index.html

Apparently they have a contract with the city, and this is where animal control takes them. All you have to do is sign a release, there is no charge to you. Hopefully you never have a reason to go there.

so yesterday i wrote to my council man to vote for some oversight, and also to Mr. Melendez to let him know my experience. and color me shocked, b/c this morning i had this response from Mr. Melendez.

Dear Ms. Connors,
Let me first say how sorry I am about your experience. I certainly appreciate and understand your concern about how animal control services are conducted after regular hours. The procedure after hours is to call the JCPD who then contact animal control.
I was informed about this incident this morning and I contacted our chief animal control officer to inquire about your call.
We had an animal control officer in the field till well past 11:00pm last night. Neither this officer or the chief animal control officer (supervisor) received a page or call from JCPD. The animal control supervisor contacted JCPD this morning to inquire about your call and was told that it was received and their screen indicated the call as "referred." Unfortunately, our staff does not have any record of receiving this call. For your information, I am listing the after hour calls we responded to from residents and JCPD:
Animal Control responded to five (5) calls after regular shift.
5:25pm - Bite Case - Central Avenue
After 6:00pm with Task Force- Magnolia Avenue
6:44pm from Police # 115351- Washington Blvd.
6:58pm from Police # 115374 - Wegman Parkway
8:57pm from Police # 115481 - Martin Luther King Drive
As you can see, we received three calls from JCPD to which we responded. Had we received the call regarding the animal in question we would have responded.
These incidents are extremely troubling to us especially during this time. I appreciate your candor regarding the ordinance and understand your sentiments. Our city has a good animal control program but it can be better. Last year we responded to more than 2,200 calls without any incidents or problems. Your situation is very regrettable, and all I can say is I'm very sorry for the trouble you encountered. I'm available at 201 547-6800 if you would like to speak with me.
Best,
Harry Melendez

coaster

i made the call to both animal control (4 times no answer, or even an recorded message, what is THAT about??). After reaching the cops, i was crying and told them the cat was in pain after being HIT BY A CAR, i called BACK after no response, and spoke to a nice woman (at the non emergency number) who TOLD me that animal control sometimes doesn't answer pages. after that i said, please cancel the call as we're not waiting around while this cat wails in pain, we'll do it ourselves.

so the miscommunication is on the cops, imagine that....

thanks for everyone's help. we took her to an emergency in lyndhurst. She had severe injuries and no bladder control or limb response. unfortunately the doctors agreed it was best to stop her suffering.

they were very kind and understanding to us as we sobbed and said goodbye.

thank you all for you help and offers to help. drive safe and watch out for the kitties....

couldn't have said it better myself. well, i could have said it, but it would have been laced w/ profanities.

the american dream, if you can dream it, build it. if you can't sell it, don't worry, the poor schmucks that pay taxes can cover you.

and give me a break, i'm so sick of these politicians using scare tactics. perhaps no more development on the water front is a GOOD thing. Until you can pay for the infrastructure to support the mass amounts of people coming in, it should stop. But im' sure as soon as another developer comes along promising the next high rise dream, our lovely idiots in power will hand them the key to the city, tax free.

they did a gun buy back program, pushed for by healy i believe. heard some negative things about it at the mayoral debates by i believe smith (who's in law enforcement) about how it isn't a good program, but who knows. anything healy does is viewed as negative, at least to the majority on this board.

we are all well aware of the BS in this town icechute, but your 2nd grade behavior will do nothing to change it. why don't you put your big mouth to use and show up at some neighborhood meetings w/ the police? why not complain to people who may be in a position to do something about.

Something tells me you will not be alone in your issues.
You may want to learn something other than "healy said so" though. Although i get the feeling you're just one of the many on this board who love to complain and are worthless when it comes to doing anything about it.

as for the many people on this board who find you ridicuously annoying, yes, to answer your question, it is YOU to blame.

give it a rest, get another song, or just plain go away.

sorry, but i think this is just kids being a**holes. i really don't think there's gangs of supporters out there defacing others' signs. i could be wrong, but i'd be more prone to believe this is kids being kids. at least they're cutting signs instead of people.

if there's a run off i'm going to have to move!!

i just really hope there's some record turnout. It will be a shame if its the pathetic turnout that normally plagues local elections.

i for one do not care who you support, i just think everyone should have a voice, and people should not be attacked regardless of who they support. shilling or not, thats unfortunately freedom of speech. I just wish this site had more intelligent supporters/shillers. Sometimes i feel as if i'm back on the playground w/ these goons playing sticks and stones.

did ANY of you bother to go to any debates?

i am not a healy supporter, but i'm so sick of this bashing. You attack people w/ different beliefs than you just because you're hiding behind a screen.

We all know who most of you support, its obvious by reading any posts. If you truly want healy out of office, i hope you did more than sit in your apt and type hate posts on this site, b/c as i've said before this site reaches just a small % of those voting.

Back to my original sentance. i did go to some debates, and i tell you what, there were NO BIGGER SUPPORTER GOONS than manzo's team. It was soo distracting b/c they hooted and hollared after every point he made (after continuously being told to hold applause until the end). They did the same w/ his council man for the heights. I went in undecided, but man, if this guy has these type of supporters, to me he reaks like the same old boys club.

they ALL HAVE GOONS, this is JC, its a way of life. to bash healy for his goons, and then to act like Manzo supporters are the cream of the crop is the biggest joke i've read on this site so far.

i don't give a crap who you like or hate, i have my own brain and my own priorities, i will make up my own decision. So spend the rest of the day bashing whoever you want, you're wasting your breath, as your childish catty comments really won't sway many.

all i can say is thank GOD MAY 12th is finally here, and 1/2 of you idiots will log out for good. GOOD RIDDANCE!

i'm so sick of this political BS. he did this, he did that. get out and vote. this site is just a TINY % of jersey city, as was evident in the results from the school board vote.

I think just to be safe i'll stay logged off for a month so everyone can fume about who wins.

if the candidates put in as much effort into running this city as they do campaigning, we'd all be sitting pretty. This week alone all three councilman running for the heights seat have knocked on my door, and manzo and healy's guys have rang my door more than once this week.

I also met Levin at the 9th street congress elevator. First mayoral candidate i saw just pressing the flesh w/ out the fanfare of an event, although i'm sure some of the others were other places. Something about Levin alone handing out his own flyers before AND after work at the elevator made me smile. ALso the fact that after work he said to me, "oh already got you going in". 9 hours later and he remembered, stuff like that leaves an impression.

I like what he stands for, i think he's a good guy, i just hope he sticks around for the long haul, b/c i really don't think he can beat the machine that is run by healy and manzo. Although i would be pleasantly surprised if he did.

Oh, and i got the sample ballot the other day with all the teams' mottos if you will.... "change we can see", "change we can believe in", "change we can afford" blah, blah, blah. change, change, change, shmange.

manhunt in the heights?

Yesterday around 5.45pm i got off the elevator at Congress street and noticed a ton of cops. One was in a SUV and he was pulled over and looking around, the other was coming thru the intersection *(with sirens running the red) looking out their window.
I heard one woman say "you ain't gonna find him". Apparently they were chasing some guy. That wouldn't be too weird, but as i walked 2 more blocks i saw 2 cop vans driving slowly looking out the window, 2 cop cars, doing the same and 1 more police SUV. They were all centralized around Congress and Palisades, but going in all different directions. anyone hear anything? thats a lot of cops for one criminal...

ps. from the debates i've been to, seems like manzo supporters like to be loud, so perhaps its those pesky Levin supporters....

Just got back from this. It was quite interesting, but the thing that left an impression on me the most was the outrageously rude behavior of the Manzo/Carroll team.

They talked, "coughed" and wildly clapped out of turn repeatedly.

If you can't keep your own followers in line, how in the hell do plan on running this city?

Seriously, i went in w/ no ideas made up, and i really liked what Carroll had to say. Seems like a decent guy, but if you surround yourself w/ rude bullies, it says something about you to me.

It reaked of an old school jersey city mentality, of "if you don't like it leave", not so much of the change i'm looking for. more of the same old BS we deal with today.

Too bad, i have heard good things about him, and no, i'm not writing him off, but it has definitely given me pause.

icechute,
i am up for discussing, but i want more than just annoyed people who live over bars complaining about the noise as the pro stance. Yeah, i'm sure it sucks to live above a bar, thats why i'd never move above one.

whatever became of this? this is a really important issue b/c i think its EXTREMELY unrealistic to limit clubs to these ridiculous standards.

everyone's spewing "art, art, art" well, music is art as well. And it seems like anyone that tries to bring original music to this town is facing an uphill battle if this is passed.

I was at automata chino this weekend and this was brought up. Apparently a bunch of business owners are trying to fight this. I was shocked to hear fullop is for it.

I'd really like to see the pros and cons for this. And i don't want to hear, neighbors deserve peace and quiet. This is a city, there will be bars/ clubs, they should have some rights as well.

It's taken so long to get places that local bands can play, and when you get something good going it seems like its only a matter of time before they get shut down.

i left the bar around 2 and there were no stabbings/fights, just a bunch of people having a good time.
