Maybe it's me, but I would feel a lot safer with Steve Fulop at the helm instead of a mayor who is more worried about his sons' bar flooding than he is with the welfare of the city. It's 7:59 on a Sunday night. What do you want to bet that the mayor and his wife are at the bar? He's stupid enough and arrogant enough to do that.

Really?

What about studying hard?

Hitting the books after hours? Excelling in school?

Nothing to do? Really?

Any building in Jersey City that is more than 4 units is supposed to be rent controlled. They are privately-owned and the city designates the maximum rent increase per year in those buildings. Sometimes, because a landlord can't legally raise the rent according to market value, he or she is forced to let repairs and upgrades go because they don't have the rental income to make the fixes. Good for grandfathered tenants. Not so good for landlords and neighborhoods.

I believe that jcpissed is correct. The only problem is that no one has assigned a percentage or dollar amount to the term "unsconcionable." But the city's landlord/tenant office can definitely advise you.

I honestly had one of the best Shrimp Scampi that I've ever eaten at The Barge. The interior is awful and the crowd at the bar will make you want to stick a knife in your neck. But good food.

Saw Good Morning America this morning and Snookie and J-Wow couldn't have been more complimentary about JC. I have a feeling that the city is going to be shown in a pretty positive light and they'll be making fun of themselves more than anything.

Reassuring. Ten years after 9/11 and this is their emergency warning system. Maybe the mic was hooked up to Healy at his son's bar for "lunch."

I was really pleasantly surprised when I went in yesterday. Their produce section is like a scaled-down version of A&P's only much cheaper. They had all the basics, grocery-wise. I'm hoping that they're going to eventually have a meat/fish counter to order, but for now their refrigerator case meats look fine. It's immaculate, well-stocked and the cashier said "Thank you." I almost keeled over.

Gee...do you THINK this could have anything to do with the fact that knucklehead is running against Steve Fulop? Let's squeeze in a token gay guy as "honorary" deputy mayor. This douchebag mayor's tactics know no bounds. Mr. Velazquez should be ashamed of himself for allowing Healy to use and tokenize him like this.

I have a question. Are cyclists supposed to obey the traffic lights? I saw two go through a red light on Grove and Montgomery and they had to swerve to miss a car entering the intersection on a green light, almost causing an accident.

I'm guessing that everyone who says that Dixon is rodent-filled is either a disgruntled tenant who is being forced out or someone who's never gone beyond the gates. I went for a tour and wish that I had waited to buy until I knew what DM was all about. It's REALLY nice. (And nope, I have nothing to do with them professionally or personally.)

I hope they also discontinue they *ahem ILLEGAL* refusal to not accept credit/debit under $10. Yes, this is a violation of the agreement that stores make with Visa/MC/AmEx and if they are caught doing it are in trouble. I just hope they stop that nonsense because most people nowadays don't have so much cash on them!

Good luck to the new Key Foods.

I went in a week ago to pick up a few things, mistakenly thinking I had cash on me. They took my cc without hesitation and with a smile for about $8. I don't remember seeing a sign about policy.

I am very happy with the changes there. Every day it's getting better and better.

Nice to hear that you got a smile. Try getting one at Shop Rite. I'll try Key Foods, especially if the produce is good. Now if they could just get some great, fresh seafood, I'd be a dedicated customer.

The question mark should be inside the quotation marks.

only if the title itself is a question, ie: "Are You Smarter than a Fifth-Grader?"

the answer to which, in this thread's case, would be No.

Your "ie" should be e.g.. Sorry. I just HAD to add that or I'd kick myself later.

Laico's is one of my go-to spots when I have out-of-town guests. Everyone is always happy with the old school charm. Large portions and reasonable prices. Not gourmet by any standards, but fine stuff. They make a good martini too.

Though not Liberty, I had a great experience with a credit union loan. I financed a car through one. When I paid off the loan early, not only did I just have to pay the principle that was remaining without the interest, they opened an account for me and deposited the $650 that I accrued in interest by the early payoff. If the rate is reasonable, I say go for it.

Incomes for mayoral candidates, no matter what the source, should be disclosed as should their tax returns. I'm sure that Steve Fulop wouldn't object. I have no problem with him having a private sector job because the council is a part time gig. And he is not double-dipping on public-funded pensions and benefits.

IMHO, you can't even put Mr. Fulop and some of the rest of the societal dregs on the council in the same league. He's the only voice that I'm hearing that endorses full-disclosure with government, publicly decries non-labelled city vehicles and no-bid contracts, and denounces all of the good-old-boy politics that are killing this city. When he's mayor, he's going to be a full-time mayor. I've never even met the guy but I like what he's doing and where he wants Jersey City to go.

I told him that I didn't understand and to lighten up, and he shut the door in my face, seemingly shocked that someone didn't agree with him.

I kind of assumed that he would be arrogant enough to throw someone out who disagreed with him. I can't see him changing how he operates unless there's a significant decrease in his cash register. And I don't see that happening from these few complaints. But I hope you will get some satisfaction giving your business to a local merchant who is more deserving of it. I sure am.

"...and the potential downside is God knows what..."

You my friend will never get my business again. If you don't let people in based on what they are portrayed on in a tv show, then you should perform background checks on every patron that comes in. There is a park around the corner where drug deals go on 24/7, and I've seen those people go in that store and come out with liquor. You really need a reality check pal. A real reality check, not an MTV one.

Absolutely correct. This effete snob will let you stand at the counter with your thumb up your *** waiting to check out if he's discussing a wine with another patron. After this crap, I'm done with that place too. Also, I just discovered that the little liquor store on Grove north of Newark has MUCH better prices.
