Re: Pole Position Go Kart racing near Liberty State Park in Jersey City
Home away from home
Home away from home

just got back from my first day of racing at Pole Position. They have a really good setup there, and I know they will be seeing a lot of me in the future. The track has a nice layout with some high speed sections and technical areas as well. The karts are very good, with a lot of pick-up in them. Compared to the other offering in the area, V17, I like this much better.

i spoke with one of the managers, and they will be setting up leagues with a variety of racing events. Giant track, linking both tracks together, endurance, grand prix events. My fastest lap of the day was a 23.010. If you are in the low 23's you are doing well. If you break into the 22's you are moving.

I saw some youth races while I was there, and seems to be the same format and length, just with the speed reduced.

Some videos of the racing action, I know race 1 is filmed sideways :(

Hope this helps you out, we are very excited about our first location on the east coast.

The site says opening soon. Do you have a opening date set yet? I'd really like to come racing this weekend.

A helmet is included as part of the race price. You need to wear closed toe shoes, and that's about it.

Having raced gas karts and electric before, I think electric karts are a lot of fun. I love the feel and the top end of those tiny gas engines ruining right behind you, but I hate the fumes indoors. Electric has great acceleration, but they always seemed to run out of speed too soon for me. The lack of fumes though is very nice. As I said in a previous post I stopped by and looked in the windows, this place is going to be a blast. As long as they have decent turn marshals and run the place well (one of the biggest determining factors for me) I'll be a frequent racer. If you see me in my helmet say hi. Photobucket

Still a better deal than what v17 is offering. either way I cant wait till next week for this place to open. It would be super sweet if they did what some other places I have been to do; free race or appetizer, or something for fastest lap time of the hour. I know it always made me push a little harder.

Well I think the maybe couple of thousand JC yuppies/hipsters can afford to play at the $25 adult and $22 children per race price tag but the other 234,000 natives not so much. Maybe the Manhattanites that use the National Golf Course will walk over to the Kart Races for a spin. The kart racers must be faster then the golf carts, but the majority of the JC population will never know. Maybe Brett?s idea to open a water park in LSP would have better served the people of JC. (a scary but fair thought)

I drove by the location last night. The place is indeed ready to go. i hear they are opening on Dec. 6th. I dunno where you got you pricing info, but if they price it the same as they have as all their other locations it will be the following:

Youth (48" and taller)
Members: $13.95
Non-members: $16.95

Adults: (56" and taller)
Members: $14.95
Non-members: $19.95

There are a few different levels of membership.
$37.95
Annual Membership
- Two standard races
- One standard race anytime during the month of your birthday
- One Pole Position Raceway t-shirt
- Race discounts

$47.95
Annual Membership
- Three standard races
- One standard race anytime during the month of your birthday
- One Pole Position Raceway t-shirt
- Race discounts

$59.95
Annual Membership
- Four standard races
- One standard race anytime during the month of your birthday
- One Pole Position Raceway t-shirt
- Race discounts

$100
VIP Membership
- Four standard races
- One standard race anytime during the month of your birthday
- One Pole Position Raceway t-shirt
- Race discounts
- Priority list during busy times

Seems like a much better deal than what V17 is offering, plus it looks like a decent space. Assuming they can get people in the doors and racing it should be a great place. I know I'll be there.

I don't see the embankment on the national register of historic places. Some parts of it may be in historic districts, but that doesn't mean the embankment itself is protected. Can you show me where the embankment is listed as a protected historic structure?

Sorry I may be late to the conversation, but what is worth saving about the embankment? I understand why it is a part of the history of JC, but it's just that....history. We don't preserve every old building in JC just because it's old.

What options are there when it comes to the embankment? The developer can sell the land back to the city, so the the city can knock it down and build parks, or build the parks on top. I doubt the city has the money to demolish the structures let alone make them sound enough to build parks on top. Plus I doubt the developer would sell the property back without making a nice profit. Or the residents of JC let the developer go ahead with his plans to add more housing. The developer pays all costs, and the city gets to reap the tax benefits.

Somebody tell me why you want to save this thing???

What to do about over sized garbage in downtown JC?

I have a futon that I need to get rid of. Is there someone I should call at the city to set up a pickup? of can I just put it out with the regular trash? I have noticed on on of our regular trash pickup days people tend to put out larger items, not futons, more like tables and chairs. Thanks.

on a side note i looked at an apt. in the building about a year ago. to think I could have lived above an ice cream shop! my childhood fantasy come true!!

Re: Protest at Jersey City BP Scheduled for Thursday

why people would want to protest a locally owned business is beyond me. BP franchises their filling stations, and each is owned and operated by the people who live in your neighborhood. If people want to protest BP they should go to BP, not to a gas station that BP has little to do with other than name.

At first glance I was opposed, because I use the park, and I use it often. i don't want to see it get ripped apart.

BUT, At second glance, I think there is PLENTY of reason to explore this idea. Sam, and LSP friends should at least discuss this with the Mayor, and the public, and even create demands and expectations from F1 should the event ever come to fruition. To just dismiss it altogether is disgusting.

What exactly are the friends of LSP trying to save here? LSP is pretty empty. It has the science museum, the run down rail yard (which the proposal included $1 from every ticket to fix), and views of the Statue of Liberty. Without the statue I doubt many people would ever go to LSP, and without the statue i doubt people outside JC would have even heard of the park. I understand the idea of preserving green space for city dwellers to enjoy nature, but LSP is hardly that. Empty fields and old decaying playground equipment do not sound very inviting to me. LSP needs a MAJOR overhaul. Why don't the friends of LSP tackle that issue instead?

Congrats guys you made the front page of one of the major F1 web sites. Planet F1 Article

I can't help but feel everyone is against this because they have an idea in their head of what it will be like without having any knowledge of the actual sport. building a world class TEMPORARY street circuit could be huge for JC and LSP. Not to mention the ridiculous amounts of money that would go not only to JC but to all of the local business when there is an event. Once again misinformation, short sightedness, and selfish concerns have kept some realy world class event from coming to JC

You see DanL one of the great things about F1 is you don't need all that to be in place at a location to have an event. F1 brings most of that with them to every race. really you would just need a track (temporary street circuit that could be used by everyone when not used for racing) and a small paddock area to be permanent. Everything else would be set up for the race then taken down.

....maybe if they promised to build a dog run or 2 some of you people might get on board?

I can say from experience this site works.

I had what could be described as a small sink hole in front of my old house on 7th. reported through this site and JC had a crew repaving it 2 days later. they didn't fix the problem, because the hole just came back, but the bandaid helped

and what would the laws of "pedestrian nature" be? Crossing the street wherever and whenever you want? I understand pedestrians have the right of way, but people need a little common sense, and need to look before crossing the street. In that same vein, cars should let people IN CROSSWALKS cross.

speaking of parking too close to crosswalks how about the JCPA parked in a crosswalk. (intersection of 1st & Newark)

I know he just had to get some Pino's pizza, but the shoveled spot in the snowbank was not for parking wussy 3-wheeled go karts in, it's for pedestrians you jerkey.
