Re: New rules to address noise complaints for restaurants and nightclubs

This ordinance is good in principle, but the noise levels don't seem realistic.

Regarding Nico's (now York St. Tavern), there was an issue with noise but the larger issue there was the gangs of people (mostly 20-something a-holes not from the area) that would make noise, p!ss in the street and curse like MFers at 2AM after the bar closed. Not sure if York St. Tavern has the same issues, but I do know their food sucks and by the looks of things it's still a dive, just a different name.

Re: directv in a brownstone?

Home away from home

I used to live on York St. in Paulus Hook, a historic district - it wasn't a brownstone though. I had a DirecTV dish on my front window (3rd fl) and one of the tennents gave me some junk about I wan't suppose to have it because of the historic district (meanwhile there was a telephone pole in front of the building w/ a billion wires on it and I've seen plenty of other dishes in Paulus Hook). Anyway, I remember something on the FCC website regarding satellite dishes and how you cannot be denied access to programming via a dish. Try either the DirecTV or FCC website. The condo board where you live cannot deny your access as this regulated by federal law. They may have a say on how/where the wires are run.

The news article from 2007 said that 320 units were sold at Trump and now in the Times article only 200 have been sold - seems like buyers are starting to wise up, or more likely financing has dried up.

This article in yesterday's NYT Real Estate section states that the Trump condos aren't even half sold - surprising since this project was announced over 3 yrs. ago.

At least this explains why crime is so high in Hudson County- the police are busy arresting people for petit incidents like this instead of going after real criminals - robbers, mugger, killers, etc. I can just imagine all of the money that was spent processing this guy - going from city to city, the police's valuable time spent, etc. all for $1.90.

GVC, I don't see what the cops did wrong - they investigated and then pulled over the driver that fit the description of the man involved in the shooting. The suspect was the one that hit the cop.

I'll admit I'm wrong if things turn out different - bu this looks cut and dry.

Where's Greenevillechick to defend these low-lifes and tell us how these oppressed suspects are justified for all of the shooting.

The one dude that was pulled over in the car and had a gun was lucky that he wasn't shot at by the cops - it's usually not a good thing to sit on a gun when being pulled over by the cops, especially if you're an ex-con.

Bravo!!

This is the way it should be - let the police be the judge, jury and executioner - stop wasting the taxpayers' dollars on public defenders, jails, appeals, etc.

Greenville Chick - it sounds like these two have really reformed themselves and have become model citizens - getting capped in the 'hood and not talking - I guess that's a liberal's definition of giving someone a second (and third, and forth...) chance.

Bleeding heart liberals.

Re: Barack Obama for President
Home away from home
Home away from home

With the state of the economy, the war, housing, unemployment, the price of gas, etc., etc., it's amazing that McCain and Obama are tied in the polls. That says a lot about Obama - of what he is or in this case, what he isn't. All of his hoopla over change, change, change has to be backed up with specifics - at this point I just see him as another politician blowing hot air like the rest of them.

Many people are caught up with him but couldn't name one thing he has accomplished (as a senator, NOT being the first black candidate for President) or give specifics on HOW he plans to CHANGE the mess in Washington DC - if their dear life depended upon it.

by ansky on 2008/8/15 11:12:50

Not necessarily the name that is odd, but why does Grove St. start out as 'Grove St.' up near 16th St., then change to 'Manila Ave.' around 12th St., then back to 'Grove St.' down near First St. I guess this Mr. Manila guy was not important enough to have the entire street named after him

Ansky,

This "Mr. Manila" guy is also known as the capital of the Philippines - take a walk down the street and you'll see a lot of Filipinos living on this street as well as throughout JC.

Duh.

Re: Fields Development Reports Waldo Lofts Now 90% Sold in Jersey City's Powerhouse Arts District
Home away from home
Home away from home

This just proves how bad the RE market is - this building has been marketed for nearly two years and it is still not sold out. Things probably won't get better any time soon as new units from Liberty Harbor, Trump, Inside A, etc., etc. are coming on the market and new developments in the area will be starting soon. Also, potential buyers at WALDO should be aware of a new development that is scheduled to start contruction this summer and is located on the south side of WALDO Lofts. The project was originally designed as a 10 story bldg. but there is some talk that the developer is trying to get approval for a taller building - either way, the south-facing units will likely have their views/sunlight blocked in the not too distant future.

With regard to 99 Montgomery St., there are units for sale there, but in my opinion, way overpriced. Mont-Greene is expensive as well, but the ammenities are very nice.
