Re: Pathmark @ Old Colony..Greenville/Lafayette response needed.

I don't shop there, unless I need to pick up a carton of milk after my children's Little Gym classes. We haven't done classes in a long time so I haven't visited the Pathmark. The shopping cart situation is ridiculous. They could just hire someone at min wage to watch the carts and move them in a cart caddy area.

Maybe they should hire that homeless guy who is always panhandling outside the McDonald's drive thru to push the carts around. He's there all day anyway.

There is free parking in the garage behind MW make sure the checkout clerk validates your parking stub.

The problem with Morton Williams is that everything there is way more expensive than the other grocery stores. A half gallon of milk was at least $1 more than A&P or Shoprite.

I've never had any problem at A&P, actually we love going there vs Shoprite because all of the workers are very nice to us. The produce guy (I dont know his name, he is tall and on the younger side) always greets my children by their names every tiime we see him. I do make a point to check the expiration dates on meats, but I do that no matter what store I go to.

Although now that I think of it, the meat counter guy did make a comment about the fact that I could buy sausage prepackaged. I had to tell him that I only wanted 4 sausages, not six so I wanted it from the meat case. In any event, I make it a point to shop at A&P because it's always way more pleasant than Shoprite. The cashiers at Shoprite are rude and don't even help bag! The last time I was there the cashier started working on the next customer and I had to frantically shove my groceries in bags so that our stuff wouldn't get mixed. Grrrrr!

I assume they mean all of downtown, including Paulus Hook? I think that is what they did last time there was a water main break. I feel like this happens at least once or twice a year.

Do we have to boil water and for how long? There isn't a message or anything that I see on the United Water site...

Autobody Shop on Marin?
Home away from home
Home away from home

We have a car that has some minor damage that we want fixed and we'd like to use a place in Jersey City for convenience. I noticed there is a huge autobody shop on Marin. I forget the name...it's something like Avenel or something like that? Has anyone here used them? Are they reputable and do they do a good job? Thanks so much!

I've only watched the Oscars maybe 3 times. It always sucks. Plus it's just a bunch of rich celebrities patting themselves on the back.

These are great services, but seriously, how do you think the USPS makes their money? Through regular consumers? Nope. They make their money through the companies that send junk mail. I should know, because I used to do junk mail for a living

I second that. He's even hotter in real life. I was at the set of L&O a few years ago (My old VP's sister is a writer/producer there) and he had all of us women giggling at his hotness.

Ender was 4 when the book starts...it would be interesting to see how children can handle the roles. I actually saw Orson Scott Card at a book signing at B&N a few years ago and he talked about the script them. I can't imagine doing the whole book in a two hour movie. Maybe a mini series on Sci Fi channel or something.

Thanks for reminding me, I finished Ender's Game but didn't get to finish the rest of the books in the series, I think I'm going to pick up where I left off at on "Speaker for the Dead"

but first I want to start Stephen King's "The Cell"

Ender's Game is one of my favorite books! I read it the summer before my freshman year in High School (yes, I was one of those dorky sci fi girls). Speaker for the Dead is also very good. I read most of the series, except for the last one, which was pretty bad. His parallel series, which focuses on Bean is also readable, although I did not like it as much as the original.

I really want to read Ender's Shadow because they're going to mix Game & Shadow together to make the movie (even though it'll probably be a flop, I want to see how they pull it off

I can't imagine that they'll make a good movie out of the books. Are they filming? They've been saying that they are going to make a movie out the Ender's Game for years and nothing has even happened.

Add me to the list. I'm supposed to get new service today, and they told me that the tech would call before he would show up. Well I went to the bathroom and I guess he knocked on the door and I didn't hear it. I got a message from Comcast that I had to reschedule the appt because I wasn't there. The guy never called! WTF? Well I guess I'm not allowed to take a crap for 3 hours if I am waiting for Comcast.

Did you go to Home Depot yet? I know when my friend bought blinds in the city, the person who helped them said that HD can help them with it. I think it was something like $100 to do the installation for you.

One is a story about a family who moves into a house in North Carolina, and the other is a man who is piecing together the story. Anyway, the book scared the crap out of me. It is very strange and surreal. His second book, "Only Revolutions" was pretty awful though, so I won't recommend that. It is pretty dark, so if you like stories in the vein of The Road, you might like this one.

I also really liked Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. It's a pretty long book, and it did plod on for a little while, but it's worth a read.

ooh we like similar books. we should start a little book club :D

i am still plowing thru Bowl of Cherries. interesting debut novel from a nonagenarian. it reads in the vein of vonnegut. knitting seems to win out over reading these days.

listening to Never Let Me Go by ishiguro on mp3 in my car while commuting.

I guess we do like the same books! I haven't heard of Bowl of Cherries, who is the author? Did you like House of Leaves as well? I could go on and on about that book but I haven't met anyone who has read it.

I read Never Let Me Go this summer and liked it as well. I also read Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk this past fall and that book was pretty good and F'ed up. Just like I like them! :)

You can ask Home Depot when you buy them. I think they have a service. It's relatively easy to install blinds though...don't you have a drill?

I hate that stretch of Columbus. Seriously, I'd be chowing down on feed your soul cookies every day if I didn't have to walk past all of the grossness. Well, come to think of it, it probably wouldn't be a good thing for my growing waistline if they did fix it. LOL.

If I were you, do not go to the Jersey City DMV on the weekend. Actually, I wouldn't even go there during the week. They are so disorganized and not helpful. We went to the DMV in Bayonne on the weekend and it was very fast.

I probably wouldn't be any more or less disturbed than I am right now, considering that I stay home with my child all day and live right next to Portside.

Sort of a strange coincidence that last week Linda Stein was found bludgeoned to death in her Manhattan apartment.
