Re: towing at shoprite?

FYI - so you know, they cant just pull away with cars that are AWD (esp. Subaru, Audi, and AWD SUVs). Basically all four wheels lock when the car is placed in park and towing it by just two wheels will damage the car.

Admittedly, I have done some illegal parking in my time, but have yet to be towed because my car makes towing painful and drawn out. (they could tow 2 cars by the time they get mine in the air)

I do think the tow truck drivers in JC a predatory (for that matter - when is towing not predatory?) and basically make up whatever they want to tow people.

Re: An Open Letter to You, My PATH Nemesis

Home away from home

The other weekend I was headed into the city and saw a six person family - looked as though they were from the midwest (probably Ohio) - stand in the conductors area.

I have on numerous occasions seen the conductors ask people to remove themselves from that space - I thought as a courtesy I would make them aware that they might be asked to move and it might not be best place to stand - I was pretty friendly about it to. They got pissed at me!

The woman gave me a nasty look and said they have been riding in this spot all week and were never asked to move - I was like, 'What do I know, I have only been riding the PATH for years.'

To my chagrin the conductor never appeared - oh well - but two of their retarded children tried riding along without holding onto something - both fell into other people on the train - idiots.

How about doing me a favor and going home.

When are we getting the new PATH cars? I thought that was supposed to happen end of June? I am ready for the update.

Side note - if you dont like the crowding, leave a little earlier for work. I typically ride both the PATH and subway between 6-7:30am - any time after that it become a complete s* show. I would almost describe the commute before 7:30 a lazy.

Re: Living in Hamilton Park

I have lived in Hamilton Park for about 6 months - I like the area a lot and think it will only get better. The development of the old hospital is supposed to bring a wine shop and a nicer bar. There is also Hamilton Park Ale house - one of my favorite places to sit and have beer with friends.

I prefer walking to Grove Path over NP Path. Walking through the mall has its place during bad weather.

Re: New Jersey to stop affluent suburbs subsidizing low income housing in poorer cities like Jersey City

Coming from the 'Commonwealth' of Virginia (Fairfax County to be more precise) I am generally disappointed with New Jersey when it come to equitable living and the more or less segregation by taxation this state has adopted.

I think the change is step in the right direction - Fairfax where I grew up is an affluent area mixed with cultural and socioeconomic diversity by design - we had a strong community - it played to the benefit of everyone; esp. children. Don?t get me wrong - we def. had some 'better than though' and 'rough' neighborhoods, but at least it was limited to small enclaves and not entire towns like Mt. Laurel and, for the sake of demonstration, Paterson.

In the DC metro area they are talking about how the McMansions that seed suburbia could eventually be turned into multi-family lower income housing - it seems reasonable to me.

Count me in - if they opened the tunnel to bikes I would ride to work every day.

I am hoping to see some significant improvement in mass transit across the US - it is about time.

I think this is great - should make for nice equity in my home over the next few years - wohoo - bring on $5 a gallon!

Re: Where are all the BJ shopping carts coming from?

BJs hires someone to go looking for their carts on a regular basis - I have seen the truck in the Hamilton Park neighborhood. It usually has a TON of carts on the truck.

Blame your neighbors for the problem - people should know better than to take private property - the fact that BJs even has to do something about this is ridiculous!

Way to stay classy Jersey City.
