Re: music restrictions for Exchange Place to be introduced by city council

Totally agree. JC is a multi-ethnic city, why are we in such a rush to turn it into Paramus? As someone noted below, the Bolivian parade is flat-out amazing. A little noise for a few hours is a small price to pay.

Why are so many people bent on turning JC into a quiet suburb? I live within hearing range of the Exchange Place festivals. Sure, it gets a little thumpy with that loud bass the youngsters seem to like, but it's just temporary, and it's kind of a fun sound of summer.

This is shocking to anyone? Everybody does this - Car salesmen, NJ Transit, Walmart....quote an artificial high price and then apply a "special discount". I clearly recall thinking that was the game the PA was playing when they proposed those ridiculous increases. It's just American business as usual.

Empathy is like gonorrhea; once you get it, you tend to spread it around.

Okay, then. I'm happy that you've lived such a charmed life that you've never needed anyone's empathy. Good on ya, bub.

I get that empty bitching is...empty bitching. I've contacted the Governor's office and the PA by phone and email. If 10,000 other people did that, we might see some results. We will NOT get results from meeting with Ms. Onofrio (who graduated from college 3 years ago, according to LinkedIn). The PA will get to say they met with "concerned citizen groups". I don't choose to be a part of their public relations campagn, but enjoy the meeting.

Wrong. As a taxpayer and a PATH customer, I have every right to bitch. Attendance at a useless meeting doesn't confer magical powers on you or anyone else. And the fact that people will attend said useless meeting and feel like they "did something" is saddest of all.

It would be a much stronger message to boycott the meeting, or walk out during the PA drones' portion of it.

"coordinator of marketing and customer service programs"

"external client representative, government and community relations"

Even in corporate life, these are titles for people who do nothing/have no authority. Can you imagine what they're like at the PA? I didn't read any mention of free refreshments, so I won't bother going.

I'm not a mental health professional, and I've fortunately never had suicidal thoughts, but it seems to me that if you're that far down in a hole, you wouldn't hesitate to break the window to jump out of it. Anyway, may this young man rest in peace.

+1 on visiting the courts. Back in my younger days I used to do this all the time. Much better than any reality TV show, and you get a real view of the system (for better and for worse).

Since there's currently no AC in the building, performances are limited to the cooler months. I'm assuming that the renovation will include a modern HVAC system, so there would be a lot more latitude in programming.

Side note: I went by there on one broiling July day and someone was having a wedding inside. I love weddings, but that was one I was happy to miss.

I know a little about this subject - I won't say how, but don't think I'm just being mysterious - and the NJSP provides escorts to all sorts of celebs, all the time. Last week was over-the-top ridiculous, of course, but it's pretty standard stuff. If asked about it, they'd answer something about "homeland security-crime-defensive-policing-mumble-mumble".

I gotta agree with tommyc_37 on this. Not owning a car and using public transportation has been the most liberating experience of my life. Is it slightly inconvenient sometimes? Sure. But no gas, insurance, maintenance, parking, insane drivers.....on balance, best decision I've ever made.

This may be a sign that dtjc is really becoming a small town. Basically, people are up in arms that some girl scammed her roommate. And the roommate believed that her new beau worked for the CIA??? She's probably the one who should be locked up, for criminal gullibility.

I think the plan is to keep it lit all the time once the building is up and running. I couldn't sleep one night and they must have been doing tests at about 2 am; it would change colors every 5 minutes or so. It was a bit disturbing.

Who thought it would be a good idea to have a concert on a windswept waterfront tundra in January? This is a great example of the kind of thing that sounds great in a committee meeting. Which is why I hate committee meetings.

I can see the Hyatt/Exchange Place silliness from my living room window. It looks as though the pope, the Queen of England and President Obama are staying there, judging from the police presence. Are a bunch of football players that much of a security risk?

"There are going to be hundreds of thousands of people in Jersey City. There will be billions around the world watching the Super Bowl," Fulop said. "We want to make sure we're as ready as possible. It's important to do these things."

Really? Hundreds of thousands in Jersey City? Doing what??

I had a friend visiting from Flushing this weekend. Her commuting options are the 7 train or the LIRR. We took the PATH several times and she couldn't get over how clean the stations and trains were. It's all about perspective, I guess.

C-Town is a little dreary-looking on the outside, but it's immaculately clean and they have a great selection of ethinic foods from all over the world. It's fun to just roam the aisles and see what they have.

I rarely take cabs in JC (mostly because they're disgusting), but I've never had a driver turn the meter on. I just figured they weren't required to use them. Silly me.
