YES! More homeless families and starving children! That's what we need. It would be great... crime would probably go way down, yes!

They have no business having children if they are broke in the first place! Too bad they never learned the concept of delayed gratification when they were children themselves.

Re: New Trees Downtown

"Should I plan on geting a big watering can and water the trees myself or will the city contract to have the trees watered on a regular basis."

YOu should buy some "root stimulator" at home depot and get a hose to water it yourself. The trees should also get fertilizer at least once during the summer season. You should also out some mulch/plant flowers around it to show people that someone cares about those trees. Otherwise they will end up surrounded in dog shit. (Be careful digging around the roots, they are fragile)
I just did all that with mine.

If you can afford it, get some ironwork done around them. People won't be able to slam their car doors against the trees and the dogs won't be able to get too close.

Get rid of welfare and section 8 in JC and 90% of the problem is eliminated. I really think something needs to be done regarding healthy people that dont work and receive assistance.

Why do they need to live in a city ? the point of living in a city is to take advantage of the job market etc. Cant we build welfare cities in the desert somewhere or take delapitated cities in detroit etc and make them welfare citiies?

Perhaps Easton Pennsylvania will be the new destination? I just feel bad for the hard working people, who still live there who are getting the exodus of our city's and Newark's trash. On top of having their own location, perhaps some ingredient can be added to the water to reduce fertility? Their reproduction rates alone are menacing. It's like "I'm poor and my parents don't give a sh*t, so I'll make my life even more challenging and make a baby in middle school!"

Sounds fantastic! Except they live in rent controlled buildings and with this administration they are the most protected class. And you've got fools here downtown crying to protect them, "waaa they have no opportunities." Until one of them gets mugged by a pack of these "boys and girls".

Actually, your "trash can on coles" rant is still more entertaining. But hey, it's cool - back in the burbs, my parents can still get their grass cut for $10. So I guess they are sort of useful. Not so great for the whole "green" hype however. Their car thingies make lots of stinky poo, (besides assaulting our ears with barbaric sounds.)

Re: BackFlow Preventor installation policy from JC Office of the Construction Official?
Home away from home
Home away from home

The 1,750 people who received letters regarding the installation of the back-flow preventers were given a 60 day moratorium. The city sent out the letters prior to deciding what it is they were actually requiring of us. Supposedly, they are going to come up with certain criteria to set the price for the updates and send out city officials to every unit to make sure they receive a fair quote. Most people who attended the meeting were residents in 6 to 8 unit buildings. (There were MANY complaints about the plumbers' quoting high prices for jobs that were not required by the city.) Either way, the requirements will be posted on the JC govmnts site within a week.

What I still would love to know is the criteria that was set for these letters. The fact that there are many outdated units in JC is understandable. I was baffled however by the over-representation of middle class looking attendees at this meeting. Just curious if "Santos y Ana" or the shoe repair guy on Jersey received the same memo? Somehow I doubt it.

"DUDE...I have to say, you come off as nothing but bitter in ALL of your posts.

Here is a question...do you want Jersey City to become a better city?

EVERY city has parts that are nice and gentrified, and parts that are NOT. This is not unique to Jersey City. In fact, for years, Jersey City lagged behind, by not having ANY sections that were nice.

So if you crave a Jersey City that is not gentrified...there are PLENTY, and I mean plenty, of neighborhoods that will suit you. I suggest you move there, and stop complaining.

If Downtown disgusts you...then don't come Downtown!!! "

+1
If it's danger and poverty that excite you...along with no prospects of gentrification any time soon, you should look into Irvington or East Orange. Luckily, Jersey City has enough residents who care about it enough to want it to clean up and change. I mean come on, your favorite slogan ought to be "change we can believe in!". Or is that only applicable when it comes to handing things out to the lower classes "crush"?

You don't know who my friends are, where I hang out, what I'm really like offline, face to face. You don't know how I feel when I walk down the street or when I'm out and about in Jersey City. You have NO. IDEA.

If you'd like to meet me, or any of my friends, PM me and maybe we can work something out. I think you would be surprised.

Oh, and for the record? My point was live and let live and not be so quick to judge. But that's besides the point now.

Hey mama, sorry to hear that you need to embellish some facts in order to make yourself appear more interesting. But hey, I guess you kinda have to in order to make your .5 cent deposit in every conversation more interesting. I believe there's a point when acceptance and "open-mindedness" becomes naivety. And that's exactly what I've observed from many of your posts. It's all peace, love and hair grease. Sorry I stomped on your rainbow colored sunglasses. As for yourself and your friends, not interested thanks. Probably wouldn't have much in common. Unless you're challenging me to a duel? Hey...were you threatening me cornholio?

That's a stupid remark. I know plenty of people who live in Hoboken and work in JC, and we've hung out after hours downtown.

You weren't supposed to take it literally. I was talking in the general case. Our mileage varies, I know many people from Hoboken that have never been to JC. It is even more of a bedroom commuity than JC. I guess you have to meet people from from Hoboken outside JC (duh!) to realize the extent of the "problem"

Quote:
And even if your premise were true, ask ourselves WHY would they visit JC? For the shopping? Why on earth would they come to Newark Ave (for the 99-cent stores?) when they have Washington Street as well as a much nicer, cleaner Shop Rite?

I really don't care. I was answering the question why people from Hoboken don't go around dissing JC. The answer is that
(for most of them ) JC is just not part of their consciousness. If I were to address the question "why would they want to come here?", for one thing, I think we have some better top end restaurants than they do. Of course they are unlikely to discover this for themselves and I am quite happy that it should continue that way. Incidentally, Garden of Eden was great when it opened, but I've noticed that the produce has become a bit scruffy more recently.[/quote]

Besides the high end restaurants we have the most exciting attraction of all! Starlight Inn on 1-9. Forget the hotties from Hoboken. Anyone ever see the ladies coming out of that hotel? Classy.

The artsy posse of JC with the handlebar mustaches and the ironic salvo gear don't act alike? Just stop at Gallery 58 on one of the openings. What a "diverse" bunch! Then check out how homogenous the flip side of our town is by stopping by at the Montgomery Gardens or MLK blvd. When will american apparel in Hoboken start selling "JC sucks" shirts?

Re: Grove St-based Soup Kitchen?

One time the homeless dude in front of paradise deli asked me for some spare change. So I told him that I went food shopping recently and that I would bring him a sandwich in lieu of any money. He said that he has bad digestion and that he prefers to eat at a specific place that caters to his intestinal problems. I would have loved to know where this health food haven was, but he refused to tell me. So, instead of trying to feed homeless people I now pop in at LHS once in a while and bring food and litter to the homeless cats. Besides, they look cuter and they never ask me for change.

Oh wait, we have more $.99 stores! And dog poop, yes we must have more dog poop because we talk about a lot. I forgot the cultural advantages too, as in choreographed street beatings organized by local teens. Those teens of ours really know how to take initiative. Its so sad that they took the billboard down. I really wish more Hobokenites would come over to JC to buy homes. We can really start to turn JC into a wholesome bedroom community. Just think of of the possibilities for the pathmark shopping center. Maybe those thingies that prevent carts from disappearing will finally get removed! Imagine, the keyhole on erie becomes Black Bear II. Maybe we could even buy more police and fix roads with their money.
