So the leasing manager at the apartment building told me that if I took the light rail from the west side avenue station, that it would take me directly to midtown NYC. From your post, it seems that there would be some transfer involved, am I right? One of the main selling points to me was that it was a fairly easy commute to the city.

Wow. Nice Leasing Manager. Pretty bold lying right there. This is something you can easily check. Just go to the Light Rail website and check out the maps. It does not go into NYC. You have to transfer to the PATH or Ferry or a Bus. Maybe there's a bus you can catch nearby that goes into NYC?

When the Florida thing came out, she was protected by Healy. It was plain she claimed Florida residency, but Judge ruled she could retain her seat.

Well, I will miss it. Was the only place in downtown Jersey City where I would stop in for a to-go salad. They had great greek salad - dressing was delicious. Also, their fries were fantastic. Good small cheese pizzas, too. Hummus was very good. Sorry to see it close.

I'm not in a hurry for another expensive and trendy, calling-all-hipsters restaurant to take it's place. I go to the new places, and I like them, but sometimes you just want to grab something simple and easy but delicious.

I did not dine-in there, but I would wonder why more people didn't utilize all that space in there, especially larger parties and people with kids.

Yes, I remember and miss Tio Tony's ... terrific rice and beans and chicken.

I also remember a bank of 3 telelphone booths across the street of the PATH right when you got out ... would be where the entrance to Duane Reade is now. It was the first thing you saw coming up the escalator of the PATH.

Have to second that the owners are super nice and accomodating .... their broccoli rape appetizer with the bread crumbs and white beans is to die for and their bruschetta is great.

Owners are so friendly and great with their customers; we love getting food from them.

Their business is such a welcome addition to that corner of the neighborhood. They always say hello to people just passing by and they know all their neighbors. Super nice guys.

Yes, she might be a good, hard-working talented candidate to work in a county DA's office.

Or, she might not be 'top of her class'.

But - if she were, I would have to think she would want to distance herself from her father as much as possible!!

Maybe she tried to, but no other county would hire her because of her father's dirty reputation. Would you want someone in your DA's office who's prosecuting people be that closely associated with Healy? That would be an embarrassment.

I think it was open as a gay nightclub but for a very, very short while. Yes, HPNA fought it. They made a big issue about parking and increased traffic going in/out of the neighborhood.

I seem to remember something about it being a steakhouse, too? A gay nightclub steakhouse?

Anyway, HPNA uncovered a criminal past of one of the owners which made it illegal for him to hold a liquor license and I think that was pretty much it and it closed ...

That explains why the key lime pie I had at Hamilton Inn last week was the BEST key lime pie I've ever had anywhere, including Florida. It was also the only good thing I had at Hamilton Inn that night - - apps and entree were very 'eh'. But I'll be back for the key lime pie!

I've ordered two cakes recently from Cocoa and they were outstanding. Best in Jersey City.

Used their delivery today. We had a very small order - just 2 boxes - but it took way over 75min to get to us. And when it did get to us - it was ice cold.

So excited about having another delivery option in the area. I just hope they get better at it.

We tried them a few days earlier and it arrived rather quickly and hot. So I figured they were swamped this afternoon. We were understanding about the long wait - but not about it arriving ice cold. That has to mean it was just sitting somewhere for a long time.

We will try them again as good delivery in the area is limited.

We loved it the first time, and would have loved it the second if it was warm.

Just can't stay away

And now getting back to your original question ....

Go ahead and play the game and attach a pic to your resume. Doesn't have to be professional head shot. I completely sympathize, ... attaching a pic to a resume would be the last thing I would want to do.

But if you're a good bartender, you're a good bartender. And unless the place wants 'female only' ... the bar still has a lot of shifts to fill and is looking for good, experienced bartenders to fill the service gaps the pretty (inexperienced) girls leave. And you said you're not ugly. :)

Also, I'm not suggesting a pretty girl can't be a good bartender - of course she can. But the places that are filling all their bartender shifts 'female only' will have to have some inexperienced girls because the really good pretty female bartenders probably are already solid in their positions with other bars in the area.

And no problem with these places having your resume on file when these inexperienced pretty girls don't work out. A lot of this will be a learning experience on the part of the bar owners.

Re: Bartending Job Questions for Others

There was this one time I ordered a mix drink at a local bar here in JC ... I was sitting at one of the tables in the bar area. Very pretty bartender, ... very pretty server. I got my drink (I forget what I ordered, but it's one of those common mixed drinks ... liquor and a couple juices - something like that) - anyway the drink i got was totally unrelated to what I ordered. So I called the server over and said the drink was not what I ordered. She said something like, "Yes, that's what we serve as 'xxx' ... I said, "But xxx is (named ingredients)" ... she looked at me all puzzled, said, "But we've been serving 'xxx' as (named the wrong ingredients) and nobody has said anything". I thought, 'OMG ... these girls have been serving this common drink wrong for a while and nobody has said anything.' For what it's worth, I wasn't wrong about the drink (even though I can't remember the drink now - what I remember is the exchange and being quietly shocked) - I tended bar in college and it was a drink as standard as tequila sunrise - not something really open to interpretation.

And this is not a post complaining about the service either - the girl was nice and took the drink back and asked the bartender to make it again per my ingredients. But they did think I was crazy.

Just saying that they were making this standard, common drink wrong for a while, to the point where the response was, 'that's the way we make it here'. I don't mean one ingredient was wrong. The liquor was wrong, the juices were wrong - all of it. I could tell I was hardly the first person to order it, too. That's just the way they made the drink there. The server was very secure with what she served me, she served it that way for a long time - I could tell. And nobody else but me sent it back.

So - I don't know - because the girls were pretty nobody cared that they might get a drink totally unrelated to their order and not say anything? That seemed to be what was going on there.

I realize most people are ordering beers and shots, but - really - my order was a very common drink, and from the exchange they had been serving it wrong for a long time.

So, yes, bartending is prettty straight-up and not brain surgery but you do still have to make drinks right.

At least I thought so. Maybe this whole 'resume with picture' thing means it's completely ok if you don't know how to make drinks. Nobody will say anything anyway.
