Yeah, I think they miscalculated: cheap land and a suburban style store vs more customers. Had they built an urban style store Downtown like the one in Red Hook, or like the HD, they'd have had a lot more wealthy customers within a short distance.

These big national chains have bean counters that look at the high land cost or rent in dense areas and veto it without seriously taking customer density into account. Years ago before they opened Jersey stores I contacted Harbor Freight and suggested they open one on 440. That's between 2 cities of 250k each. Their response was they don't open stores with that high rents, even though they had stores in little towns of 30k out west. They simply could not wrap their heads around the hugely larger customer base per store.

Or simply they wanted to tap into the thousands of cars that travel past that very spot each day!

Now less than 20 years later, it is over $600 million. It has to do with bonding and spending. And that is just city government.

Exactly. All the commercial development did nothing to help residents with taxes. Tax and spend. Tax and spend. Where have I heard that before?

The incident started with the fatal shooting of a police officer at a cemetery before the two assailants, a man and a woman who were suspects in a homicide, holed up in the market, engaging police in a lengthy gun battle.

The shooters also killed Moshe Deutsch, 24; Miguel Douglas, 49; and Joe Seals, a Jersey City police detective. The shooters, identified as David Anderson and Francine Graham, were found dead in the store.

Now the Jewish community of Jersey City, and their friends and family in New York, are reeling and wondering what comes next.

Many had moved from Brooklyn to escape the borough?s high prices and had found a welcoming new home. It wasn?t a danger zone, they said. They got along with their neighbors and did not experience the anti-Semitic vandalism, harassment and assaults that have taken place recently in Brooklyn?s Hasidic neighborhoods.

?There have never been any attacks or incidents with the Jews who lived there,? said Rabbi Avi Schnall, the New Jersey director for Agudath Israel of America, an Orthodox organization. Schnall has worked with Jews and other local leaders in Greenville on building bridges with the neighborhood?s communities.

Schnall drew a link between Tuesday?s shooting and the killings at synagogues in Poway, California, in April, and in Pittsburgh a little more than a year ago.

?It?s beyond tragic,? Schnall said. ?It?s frightening. What?s more frightening is this is not a local issue. This is taking place in three places throughout the country in the past year, that people are being gunned down.?

Officials say it remains unclear whether the attack was motivated by anti-Semitism. Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop tweeted Wednesday morning that ?it has now become clear from the cameras that these two individuals targeted the Kosher grocery location.? But officials at a news conference later in the day repeatedly stressed that they could not definitively say what motivated the shooters.

?We know there is significant speculation about the shooters? motive,? said New Jersey Attorney General Gubrir Grewal. ?We are not in the position at this time to say definitively why the suspect decided to stop in front of the supermarket and begin firing immediately.?

Less than a day after the shooting, JC Kosher is already rebuilding.

On Wednesday, a plywood frame stood in front of the store entrance near a truck carrying what looked like drywall. Men from a company called Gold Star Restoration were hammering away. Inside, boxes of children?s candy, cereal and croutons lined the shelves. A group of Orthodox men were carrying a shiny new door to the building. Construction paused only for a prayer service at the adjacent synagogue, K?hal Adas Greenville, with New Jersey Gov. Chris Murphy in attendance.

The grocery store is on Martin Luther King Drive, one of the neighborhood?s central thoroughfares. Down the street is a Pentecostal church, a mosque and a string of businesses. The surrounding blocks are full of row houses in a rainbow of colors along with some empty lots. Broken bottles and litter line the streets.
https://www.jta.org/2019/12/11/united- ... errorized-their-community
Jersey City residents say the area has been gentrifying, with a boom in new construction in the past few years. Douglas Harmon, 43, a lifetime Greenville resident and local building contractor, said most of the new arrivals are Jewish families.

I'm not sure where you got the 1st paragraph or if it's your own words but the shooters did not "hole up" in the kosher store. They went in guns firing. It's pretty well substantiated that their target was the people in the store.

Yes it did. Next will be the produce store on the corner of Erie. The owners have already said. By the way. Believe what you want to believe. You will not convince me that not being able to drive up to the front entrance of the hardware store or any other defunct establishments is the reason they have closed. Last I checked, Tia's (on grove), Third and Vine (on 3rd) or Talde (on Erie) to name a few recently closed establishments don't have a pedestrian plaza in front of it. What say you about those or is your argument only convenient when a plaza exists?

You are naming restaurants. They strive on foot traffic hence "restaurant row" so I don't see you logic.

Passing Montgomery st during rush hr it was grid locked. With only one lane heading east now cars were backed up behind cars trying to enter Edison fast park. There is no longer a second lane to allow traffic to pass any obstruction. Looking west Montgomery was also grid locked for as far as I could see. Can anyone explain why 3 bike lanes in each direction for a total of 6 is needed? Any green benefit is surely off set by hundreds of idling cars polluting the air.

This simply isn't true, undocumented persons will not be able to vote as the requirements to register are:

- Be a United States citizen;
- Be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file this form (note: you must be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote);
- Resident of this state and the county, city or village for at least 30 days before the election;
- Not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction (unless parolee pardoned or restored rights of citizenship);
- Not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court;
- Not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

And the bill has no provisions regarding detention, incarceration or any other form of detainment.

The point is the animal that killed Ms. Carolina was a bad dude and his citizenship status has nothing to do with that.

1. if they are already here illegally what's to stop them from checking the box claiming they are a US citizen and registering to vote? --- NOTHING
2. he was here illegally after being deported twice, his status has everything to do with her being dead at his hands.

What? Checking a box is not how we prove our citizenship in this country. We have these things called Social Security Cards and Birth Certificates. Citizenship status not on your drivers license and at voting polls you're typically required to bring two forms of ID one of which is those documents that "undocumented" people wouldn't have.

2. he was here illegally after being deported twice, his status has everything to do with her being dead at his hands.

Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Richard Ramirez... Please explain what their citizenship status had to do with the murders they committed or is it you just prefer you killers who kill in the united states to be born here?

Good point! With enough US born lunatics to police why do we allow the undocumented. Makes zero sense. Unless you are buying votes!

She told me that making $125k per yr qualified her for moderate housing in a new tower opening in JSQ. She got a reduction making her rent $1700 for a 1 bed.
