Shifty city? I'm glad you have the money to buy WF stocks. People should emotionally invest in JC and not keep knocking it down. If people don't like it here, what is keeping you here?

It's amazing these analyses carry any weight. JC's waterfront is a runner's paradise.

I so agree with you. Only last year JC was voted the most walking friendly city in the country. Also, the idea that NYC follows right after is BULLSHITE! Who the hell do these researchers think they are kidding? The people in JC know better than to believe this BS!

Hi all,

The GF and I are currently living in DTJC, specifically on Mercer and Barrow (one of my favorite blocks I've ever lived on). We love downtown, love the growth, neighbors, restaurants etc. Now normally this is pretty much meeting all the check marks for purchasing a home, but it feels like that spike has happened way before we were ready and aren't getting a lot of bang for the buck.

Thinking longer term, we are considering purchase a home in the Heights or JSQ area. GF works in the city so the JSQ PATH seems like a better choice, but I'm not very familiar with the neighborhoods, streets, safety, restaurants, etc. I know the Heights has that damn elevator, then light rail, then PATH... seems a bit of a pain. I drive to work so I'm not concerned.

We are willing to take a cut in the neighborhood amenities knowing downtown is the "hot" spot right now, but just want to have an idea of where we might want to look that has the big growth potential while also being a nice place to live, walk the dog, parks (dog park!), walk to eat, jog, etc.

Really appreciate the community's help here!

What makes you think downtown is the ""hot" spot right now"? That is PR and realtor's talking. IMHO , of course.

It's hot because

1) Price per sq ft in DTJC is much higher than in other neighborhoods (Exception being Newport)

2) Most of the new construction in JC has and will still continue to occur in DTJC

3) Most of the new businesses (excluding liquor stores and bail bond stores) in JC are opening in DTJC

4) Most of the press in the mainstream media (ie. NYT) mention DTJC

So for those reasons, I would categorize DTJC as being hot.

Oh I see! You are talking about money! So I guess if you don't live in hot DTJC, your existence isn't as important as the hot people who live there. It must be nice to live in what you consider Nirvana. (I guess I should be jealous?)

This is a video about a young idealistic girl who truly believed all she was taught at the New School of Social Research. She then went out into the real world ,and quickly realized she couldn't do anything to help people who don't really want to help themselves.
I watch people walking down the street dropping their garbage with no care that someone else will have to eventually pick it up. Tax money is usually spent to have garbage picked up. Someone recently mentioned that they think people who litter, are people who don't pay taxes and just don't care. They are anti-social. In the meantime, the garbage gets higher and higher.
Do you really think this is a racist rant or a melt-down? is it what happens to a highly motivated, idealized, committed individual who is trying to effect a positive change in their environment and realizing it just can't be done? It's very sad. I feel sorry for her because she dared to care.

Your direct 'beef' is with the highly vexatious tenants. Maybe you can turn the tables and check every aspect of their legal obligation discreetly such as; undeclared income, tags / insurance on their vehicle, safety aspects of their vehicle, parking of vehicle in time restricted areas without detection, driving after a night out etc etc.

Another thing that might give your tenant the sihts is the installation of CCTV cameras in common / public areas of your property - fake one's will also do the trick

A concerned citizen can make a report to Police or any other authority they suspect someone has breached.

This might help also:

My god fat-ass! You seem to have way too much time on your hands. The idea of doing all the things you have suggested to get back at the tenant is simply exhausting to me. I have to work and have no time to plot against anyone. My family escaped from a country where such activities were encouraged and accepted. It was a Police State. Are you also from a place like that?

Obviously you haven't had a tenant (nor have I, but I've heard of some horror stories from both sides of the fence) that appears to be a vexatious complainant - In the world of civility, I would have thought a tenant could sit with the landlord over a cup of coffee and talk over any problems they felt needed addressing, and not to seek intervention from the authorities. Brewster cops a fine and a repair bill (if so deemed).

I see nothing wrong with scrutinizing a person who has scrutinized me. I've come across many 'finger pointers' and I also have found that many 'finger pointers' don't like anyone pointing the finger at them!

As an example, I used to be the safety coordinator on many building sites and workers would complain (justifiably or not)
about the most smallest of detail, yet arrive at work, hung-over, drugged, drive pick-ups that had bald tires, busted seat-belts, were poorly maintained and often with insecure load of tools in them, not to mention the Friday night booze-up and still drive home!

I'd like to take brewster's word as the true oversight of the situation he is in and I am very aware that there are two sides to every story.

As I clearly stated earlier, you have way too much time on your hands and like to fantasize about all the stuff you have no first-hand knowledge about. Yet, that never stops you from chiming in. To me, you sounds very young, very idealistic and out of touch with reality. Between a landlord and a tenant, is the issue of money, first and foremost and constantly. Neither side, as a general rule is capable of dealing fairly with the other. You may ask why: the answer is because they are human.

Stringer wrote: CBS 2 Exclusive: Prosecutors Hope Video Will Solve April Murder In Jersey City Darren Talington Was Shot And Killed While Trying To Help Stranger, Family Says June 19, 2014 6:04 PM CBS 2 New York [!SCRIPT FILTERED!] JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) ? Prosecutors on Thursday hoped a surveillance video released exclusively to CBS 2 would help solve the murder of a man who tried to help a stranger in Jersey City back in April. As Christine Sloan reported Thursday, CBS 2 has blurred the faces of more than a dozen people in the surveillance video, because they could all be witnesses to a murder. In the video taken in late April, a man is seen violently pushing down a woman, and then Darren Talington, 25 ? seen wearing a blue jacket ? is seen stepping in to try to stop the attack on the woman. CBS 2 showed Talington?s face in the video, because seconds after walking out of the A-Plus Deli on fashionable Grove Street near Christopher Columbus Drive in Jersey City, Talington was shot. He died in an area hospital with his brother by his side on Saturday, April 26. ?It?s tough to watch him, you know ? and especially to help someone you don?t know, you never met ? you know, he just went in to try to intervene, which he did,? said Talington?s brother, Gregory Allen. ?And he lost his life doing it ? doing the right thing.? Talington had an infectious smile, and everyone seemed to love him. In high school, he was crowned prom king, and ?The King? would be the nickname that would stick through him throughout his 20s. Talington studied special education in college, but he really wanted to be a firefighter like his big brother. At his funeral, the Jersey City Fire Department honored Talington with a badge and a helmet. ?He always said he didn?t want to make me disappointed in him, and he didn?t,? Allen said. The Hudson County Prosecutor?s office has released the tape showing the incident to CBS 2 News because investigators believe some witnesses could help solve the crime. Prosecutors already have interviewed the man who allegedly pushed the woman. They said it was another person who walked up to Talington outside and pumped a bullet into him from behind. ?We?re reaching to anybody who was inside the A-Plus Deli, or outside of the A-Plus Deli, who observed the fight, as well as the shooting,? said Hudson County Prosecutor?s office Lt. Brian Duval. ?In particular, there?s the female victim who was shoved during the initial altercation, and her two companions who were with her that night.? ?If there is anyone out there who knows anything, please come forward,? added Allen, ?because if you were put in this position, you would want someone to come forward for you. I?m begging you, I?m asking you, please come forward.? If you were a witness inside or outside the deli, investigators said any information you give them will be kept confidential. Talington?s brother is hoping that after watching the video, someone out there will do the right thing. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Hudson County Prosecutor?s office Homicide Unit at (201) 915-1345. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/06/1 ... il-murder-in-jersey-city/

I agree with both of you but I'd like to know why a child with special needs was being taken care of by a nurse the parent's had issues with? Not that I was ever faced with their situation but I believe I would have been taking care of my own sick child. This is a totally despicable story.

I'd imagine that for some of us, we are unskilled, lack the competence or even a break from the emotional stress of raising a special needs child 24/7 and show our love and care by paying a specialist person to provide that service !

The parents have done everything in their power and capacity to provide for the child - Any blame sits squarely on the shoulders of the qualified nurse that took on the job.

10/10 to the parents that now seek justice for their child - This must be heart breaking for the parents

Of course the blame sits squarely the nurse. I won't be surprised when the "nurse" will claim, she has emotional problems and will get off scot-free just like the nanny who butchered the children in Manhattan. It is heartbreaking. I hope the family gets justice. This is an especially heinous crime perpetrated on a defenseless child.
