It is a lot of fun to watch Team Healy and supporters get their undies in a bunch over Team Fulop and supporters. Pretty much every Fulop backed candidate for lower level JC positions has smashed that of any other supported candidate. They've won in landslide elections with (I believe, but may be incorrect) extreme increases in voter turnout.

Can Fulop get enough of the "downtowners" (to use a generalization) out for the mayoral vote? Can Healy oil "the machine" (to use another) one last time?

Recent history suggests Fulop make like Hulk and smash.

I get it, Otis and I'm not sure what I would do. For the record, I don't care that Levin is on the Healy ticket. I just like discussing things.

Thanks, Otis. You had explained before and I understand where you are coming from. I, admittedly, don't know Dan Levin, Steve Fulop, Mayor Healy or any of those on the tickets. Maybe that lack of personal knowledge is where the disconnect happens. Based on previous actions I don't expect Mayor Healy to all of a sudden become squeaky clean. Based on previous statements I'd never think Levin would run with Healy. Strange bedfellows as you stated. Albeit in this case prior to getting into bed together one guy asked the other guy to leave the bed then asked if wanted to cuddle

Otis,
I think the issue most have is that Levin comes across as shady/untrustworthy regardless of his reason(s) for joining the Healy ticket. Follow me for a second to see if you see how someone might think this.

Let's assume
1. Dan is joining the ticket simply for his own political gain. People have a hard time seeing Levin on Healy's ticket since it was Levin who stomped on City Hall's grass/stairs asking for Healy's resignation due to his corrupt crew. Makes the level of trust people have for him sink at a rapid rate. He would be joining those he so loudly denounced at a previous time. As a voter, many people's first thought would be "what else has Dan Levin previously said that he'll completely do an about face on in the future for his own gain?" Granted, Levin never said he would stay away from a Healy ticket, but one would assume such from his calls for resignation.

2. Dan is playing political mercenary and plans to slowly unravel the Healy regime from the inside. Also untrustworthy given the fact that most (all) people running a ticket wouldn't add a person to their ticket if they thought their goal was to take down the machine they had built over time. In this scenario, those railing against Dan for joining the ticket would be happy he did so because it would help their end goal of taking down Healy. However, it doesn't make the decision (to run on Healy's ticket) any less shady. Basically, Healy isn't adding Dan to the ticket thinking "I'm gonna put this guy on here because he plans to undermine my machine".

So either way Dan is compromising his morals, no?

1. He's turning his back to all those that were with him calling for Healy's resignation.

2. He's joining a ticket to hopefully help dismantle its stranglehold on JC politics. That's untrustworthy to the folks on that ticket.

I like Delenios at the corner of 7th and Brunswick. It isn't a mind blowing cheesesteak, but I do enjoy it the most out of all the ones I have tasted.

They are also the only place in DTJC that I have found that does a legit chicken cheesesteak. Not grilled chicken chopped up. Not cubes. Actual shredded chicken

Hey megmcg,
I've lived in the exact area you're planning on moving to for the last 7 years (I'm on 1st btw Colgate/Merseles). Prior to that I lived at Erie/1st so I have a decent knowledge of First St. in general. 1st/Brunswick is safe. Fine to walk around at night and to walk to/from the Path at all times of day.

Every area of downtown JC has something that the people living in that area wishes were better imo. In the area you are talking about it is the Ferris students at lunch time, a general disregard of using garbage cans by said students and others, Indios and the Latin Lounge. Jordan's is also a concern, but not right at the corner you are referencing.

On the flip side, the last 7 years have had a large amount of growth. Lots of people, strollers, dogs and nicer cars finding their way back here.

There isn't a place in downtown JC you'll close your eyes and think you are in Princeton (that includes Newport, Paulus Hook, Hamilton Park, Van Vorst Park and the corner of 1st/Brunswick).

I think you'll enjoy the area. 2nd St. Bakery is very good for rolls (sausage, pepperoni, chicken, eggplant, cinnamon, etc), mini pizzas and sandwiches. Pecoraro's on Newark Ave has great fresh breads. Madam Claude is a french style restaurant not too far from your corner and it is very good. Walk east along 1st St until you hit Erie St for Torico's Ice Cream (worth the wait in line) and explore all the places along Newark Ave, Jersey Ave and Grove St. You'll also find a lot of threads about people's favorites places if you search the forum. You'll also find, like with everything else on JcList, that someone will tell you something is great while the next person tells you it sucks. Best way to know is to get out there and explore your neighborhood.

Welcome to the area and hopefully you'll enjoy!

The spring on my garage door snapped about a year ago and I ended up going with Precision Overhead Garage Door Service. Number is 888-490-8700. My tech's name was Bob Z.

It is the same Carmine's. I live close to the current location and was walking my dog by the new space and also saw the sign. My wife gave them a call last night to ask if they were moving and they said yes. They said they were hoping for July.

Regarding this portion of the article:
"although it's not clear how much of the building was taken down intentionally by workers and how much came down of its own accord."

The front of the building is the portion that collapsed (the 2nd street side where you see the JCFD looking at the building in the pic). A majority of the building had already been gutted over the last couple of weeks prior to the front/face of the building collapsing. Just in case anyone wondered

yahjcforya,

Nobody has moved into the building yet and the guys on the job said they expect everything to be completed by the end of 2009. That most likely means spring 2010 at the earliest. I think (and this is just a guess at best) people will start moving sometime in May/June of 2010.

Tino,
I live extremely close to the Crescent Court project. I am currently sitting with my windows open and the loudest noise is the wind from the incoming storm. That's not to say that 78 can't/doesn't provide noise. It's just that it wouldn't be something I'd consider as a detriment to living at CC compared to other areas in downtown JC.

Good luck in your search.

I'm honestly not sure if it was a wild turkey or a pheasant. I quickly saw it. just did a google image search and they are similar looking enough for me not to be sure from the distance I saw it at

There is one strolling down 1st street back near the Turnpike overpass. Not sure that Pheasants are native to JC so I assume it is either some sort of pet or lost in some way.

I called animal control, but it just rang. I also am not sure the pheasant just doesn't end up dumped in Lincoln Park if they answer
