I just called the number Dan provided above and was told "They'll be having crews out tomorrow to take care of that." I pointed out that the rain is supposed to start today, but he just repeated that the crews would be out tomorrow.

The issue here is not whether I, the customer and patient, remembered the exact name of the medication. Which I didn't. The doctor had told me what it was (I had never heard of it before), I had gone home and looked it up, but by the next day, making a stop in the middle of my workday, I could not remember the exact name. It was a "know it if I see it" situation.

But that's not really the takeaway here, is it?

I love that they're so close to my house, but I just had an inexcusable experience there.

I went in to pick up a prescription. The cashier started ringing it up without saying anything. I looked at the label, and it was the WRONG drug. Not just a generic, but the wrong thing. It was something I had been on several months ago. There must have been a mix-up and another prescription for it was sent in. But the medication I was there to pick up on that day was totally different. I told them this was the wrong medication, and they didn't even apologize. They just went in back to look on the computer. The cashier said, "Do you remember the name of the medication?" I mean, really?? I'm not a doctor. I only remembered the letter it started with from what the doctor had told me. Didn't they have it under my name on the computer? Finally, they found it and filled the prescription. Now, at this point you'd think they'd apologize, but no.

When a pharmacy fills a prescription, they should check the name of the drug in the system, show it to the customer, and then check it with the drug they're giving to the customer to take home. There's no room for error. It's inexcusable. If i had bad eyes or didn't bother to read the label, I'd be doing my body harm.

Ridiculous. I know people love Newport Pharmacy, but...

Can anyone recommend a trustworthy, not too expensive electrician--just to fix a fickle switch? Tired of the lights turning off spontaneously.

The second amendment is about a well-regulated militia, not some guy with a semi-automatic.

Seriously, though, if someone was looting your property, you'd take out an AK-47 and shoot them? That's not realistic. That's murder. And do you really equate the value of your property with the value of human life?

The other day the FedEx guy buzzed my apartment and asked me to buzz him in so he could leave a package in the vestibule of the building. I said, "I'll come down." When I got there, sure enough, it was actually the FedEx guy with an actual package. He said I should have just buzzed him in, and I told him that I didn't want to let in anyone because of the danger of break ins. It's too bad the delivery companies don't have a policy that doesn't allow them to be buzzed in, sight unseen. It would help protect customers.

What I'm talking about is something different from Basic. A place where you can stop and pick out prepared foods from a display case and have them pack it for you. Like ginger salmon, pesto noodles, veggie burgers, mac and cheese, etc. You'd pay by the pound, in case you don't feel like cooking that night. Like Whole Foods or something like that. They have that stuff at A&P but it's not very good.

Their kebabs were great, and so were a couple of their Italian dishes. The rest was nothing to write home about. The decor was blah and so was the service, though the owner was friendly. It's sad to see a business fail though.
Not to dance on their grave, but I would love to see a gourmet deli with prepared foods in that spot-- a place where people could stop on their return home from the PATH to get dinner. Am I being completely delusional?

I hope police presence doesn't simply mean the police car I've seen circling Hamilton Park lately. I hope there really are police offices in plain clothes. It would be nice to see uniformed cops walking around once in a while. I've only ever seen them get out of their cars to watch the basketball games.

Possibly someone answers the buzzer and the person states that they are from the post office or UPS or something. Personally I don't answer my buzzer unless I'm expecting someone. In some big buildings people will also let in strangers as they come in, thinking they're probably neighbors that they don't recognize.

Ate there last night and really liked the pizza. I had eaten at their Bleeker location and did not remember the slices being $4. That's a bit too steep, even for good pizza with a couple of toppings. It's much more economical to get a whole pizza, but of course that's not practical if you just want one or two slices. The cornmeal crust is not everyone's cup of tea, but I like it.

When the assessor came here, he stepped two feet into my condo. He asked how many rooms I had and then marked something on the page and said, "Okay, done." I asked what he had written down: I have 1 bedroom and 1 bath, and the condition is "normal." That's all they write.

Hamilton Park Farmer's Market
#47
Home away from home
Home away from home

I just walked through the new and improved Hamilton Park Farmer's Market. It's expanded, with an empanada stand, a pizza stand (with a portable brick oven right there), a plant place, and more. All the old vendors are there too. It looks great!

The one thing is that this farmer's market is now more like a food market-- it still only has one farmer. It would be nice to have more than one, as most farmer's markets do. But still, it looks much improved.

Door to door sales-- Verizon

Dear Verizon,
Could you not send salespeople door to door? I really don't appreciate the hard sell when I'm trying to make dinner. Wouldn't have answered the door, only someone knocked on three separate occasions during the day when I was trying to work and not expecting anyone, and I got to thinking it was my super.
Now I really don't want Verizon.

I've only eaten at Satis once, but I wouldn't even call it great. It's definitely better than average for downtown JC, but again, it's not a restaurant you'd travel to Jersey City to patronize. But I do give Satis credit for being pretty good. Better than decent.

I agree with a lot of these comments. JC has a lot of comfort food already. Bar food, whatever you want to call it. Enough with the sliders and mac and cheese. I'd love to see something really interesting and unique.

And quality-wise I'd love to see something better than "decent." There is truly a lack of really great restaurants in this town. Get yourself a creative chef.

The article isn't about JC. It's about someone who was looking to buy in Manhattan and rented in JC for a while, even though he prefers Manhattan. So JC isn't for him. It's not for everyone. I don't really get why people are so offended.

"We didn't want to look like a traditional bakery," she said. "We went with a boutique look. When you walk in, cakes aren't in your face. It's chic."
I guess I'm not chic. I like a place to look like a bakery. I want to be tempted by the cakes when I walk past. Let's face it-- I go to a bakery if their stuff tastes good, not if the atmosphere where I'm picking up the stuff is chic. And with the number of kids in the area, you kind of want a place that kids will drag their parents into. Read: Cakes in the window.
But I do hope she makes it. It's so hard for businesses around here--probably because we're all so judgmental and cynical.

I thought I remember someone on JC List saying that they just show up--there's no notice beforehand so you don't know to be home when they come. That makes no sense to me.

I have smelled a skunk at night on 9th St occasionally. Haven't seen one, though. I have a dog that likes to chase small animals, even on leash, so I hope the skunk never makes an appearance.

When I was in HS my dog got sprayed and nothing--baths, tomato juice (an old myth)-- worked to get the smell out. We finally had to take him to a groomer. It's disgusting.

It's not fair to assume anything based on this article. The mother was probably stunned, panicked, and not thinking straight. And that comment on the article page, blaming the mother for letting the boy out run into the street-- there are tons of trick or treaters in that area. In those crowds, you can't always control a sugar-fueled kid. Thank goodness the boy is going to be OK.

Yes, this place has improved A LOT. Under the old management, the service was a joke. You felt like you were intruding on their brand of craziness. Now, the food is as good as or better than it was, and the service is great. They're very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

It seems odd that a street sweeper-- which presumably is designed to handle a lot of leaves and wouldn't be necessary if there WEREN'T leaves--would catch fire because there are a lot of leaves.

I didn't see the fire start, but I saw it just before the fire dept came. That was a pretty big flame shooting up. From my perspective, it looked like it almost reached a branch (though my perspective might have been skewed).

Right, I go to Canis Minor to get my dog's nails clipped, but I like to bathe her myself, and this requires a self-service bathing facility. It's odd that there's not one in JC. It's about 15 bucks and they clean up the mess for you.
