What will be lost is the revenue paid to the city by AirBnB. Wasn't it around $9mil a year?

You know what else is lost? Party goers coming and going at all hours of the night. The feeling of insecurity you have when strangers are constantly in your building. Having to become the de facto concierge for out of towners. There is a true quality of life issue here.

What nonsense. Any of the issues complained about here can also occur with long term tenants and owners. Future, Airbnb tourists aren?t putting kids into the school system and draining resources and they?re not taking up peoples precious parking, they?re either using ride share or public transit.

Let?s also not forget that this entire initiative was started by wealthy VVPA NIMBYs that didn?t like seeing people with roller suitcases on their block and feel they should restrict property rights for the entire city based on one incident.

The party goers and concierge issues are all over the place, just ask around.
The air bnb's in the larger buildings mixed in with the long term renters are a huge problem, which you apparently can't imagine, and I personally know people who have moved because of this.
At least with long term renters you can try to mitigate the problem with the landlord. With the air bnb-ers that really isn't possible.
Also, how have the neighborhood associations hurt you? You seem to be obsessed with them. In my experience (12 years in HP) they haven't shown themselves to be all that powerful.

Passing Montgomery st during rush hr it was grid locked. With only one lane heading east now cars were backed up behind cars trying to enter Edison fast park. There is no longer a second lane to allow traffic to pass any obstruction. Looking west Montgomery was also grid locked for as far as I could see. Can anyone explain why 3 bike lanes in each direction for a total of 6 is needed? Any green benefit is surely off set by hundreds of idling cars polluting the air.

In addition to the above, in the morning I have been sitting on the bus for 10-20 minutes while trash (I believe it's commercial) is picked up. The trash guy was running back and forth like crazy to do it fast but businesses can rack up a lot of trash. I don't know if night pick ups are possible over there, maybe they have to look into that.

Also, since there's no no place for people to double park while they pick up and drop people off illegally they often pull into the bus stops to do it, so the bus then blocks traffic, and that creates a back up and on we go.........
I realize there is a parking issue in the city, and I don't have any answers, but I agree, any green advantage from the bike lanes on Montgomery in particular, is negated by all the idling traffic.

All the food trucks continue to be where they always were at Exchange Place and they continue to be about 1 foot apart from eachother lol so much for that.
Hundreds of people buy food there everyday, never heard of an issue, I have gotten Incredi-Balls, and burritos from Victoria's lots of times.
If you think regular restaurants have higher standards, you are probably right, but not by much.
They are on a side street not bothering anyone and were here before most of the fixed location food places opened. Hudnut needs another hobby.

I know it's illegal to do this in Jersey City without a zoning variance or a grandfathered curb cut. Who can I call to complain about it?

You sound like a great neighbor.

You sound like an ass. In a row of houses with a front yard you can't just shitty pave over it and put your car or whatever other shit you have on it. You sound like a shit neighbor.

If you have a building that's completely AirBnb then it needs to have signage indicating that so once again, people can decide if they want to live there.
I wouldn't live in a building with strangers constantly coming in and out, and neither would a lot of other people.
Second, how do people not see what this does to the housing market? Not to mention neighborhoods.
There is a big difference between people renting their house here and there or even a room, particularly if it's owner occupied.

But, again, this measure is overly aggressive in trying to solve this problem. If I want to spend the Summer away and rent out my unit to a friend, or even a stranger, for the month or two I will be away, I would not be allowed to do so legally, even if I had the consent of my landlord, as I live in a building with 5+ units. Where's the harm in that scenario?

When I sign a lease I'm making a commitment. I just want the landlord to do the same and keep rando's out of the building. If you want to run a hotel, run a hotel. This isn't about the one off renting your apartment for the summer, which in my opinion shouldn't be allowed either. This is about a cash grab, pure and simple.

How is that a good idea? Because so many people get off the Path and take the ferry now? Because it's so easy to get to Exchange Place on the bus and then you want to get off and get on a gondola? Given the number of people that can get on gondola, how would that even be remotely cost effective or efficient?
I think rentable jet packs would be awesome. You would dock them like Citibike on each side of the river. At least getting to work would be fun. So what if you lose a few people in the river? There's more where they came from.

As usual the whole "forum" concept eludes a lot of people. I don't care about anyone's actual opinion, I just think they should be able to express it without (too much) abuse.
I mean the occasional "you're a nut" or "what's wrong with you" might be ok, but beyond that is just ignorant (in my opinion, lol).

And there is no shortage of misinformation in these forums, so that's not an excuse for abuse either.

There must be a JC mommy board on FB where the more reasonable posters can post their opinions as fact. Also neighborhood.com is a perfect place for people who love to narc on their neighbors!

PATH introducing cellphone service to underground stations

Updated 6:45 PM; Posted 6:45 PM

The Jersey Journal

Underground PATH stations are officially joining the 21st century.

The Port Authority announced Tuesday that cellphone service is being added to nine underground PATH stations, with connectivity from major carriers phased in over the course of the rest of the year and into early 2019.

As of Tuesday, AT&T and T-Mobile cellular service is available at underground PATH stations in New York, while cell service from both providers will expand to New Jersey's PATH stations in the next three weeks. Verizon Wireless and Sprint customers will see system-wide cellular service in both New York and New Jersey's underground PATH stations early next year.

Cellular connectivity will be available on platforms and throughout underground stations.

"We want to upgrade service to the traveling public at all our facilities," Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton said in a statement. "Access to cell coverage is an important expectation of PATH customers."

PATH follows in the footsteps of New York City's Metropolitan Transit Authority, which finished adding cellphone service to all of its subway stations in January 2017.

The PATH stations in New York with the new cellular coverage are: 33rd, 23rd, 14th, Ninth, and Christopher streets. The World Trade Center PATH station has had cellular coverage since it opened in 2016.

https://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... d.html#incart_river_index

this is awesome news! I was wondering why I started getting a signal at the 14th street station last week. now I know.

I am not at all excited by the prospect of cell service availability within trains or stations. People are rude enough as it is, so imagine the additional annoyance of people loudly speaking into their phones, as they flaunt the many other rules about music, food, etc. Even NJ Transit and Metro North were forced to add "quiet cars" to their trains because of this issue. Alas, that's a non-starter for the PATH considering the current overcrowding issues.

The environment on the platform is not all that conducive to a conversation. As a Path rider it would be nice to be able to text my boss when I'm going to be late which is pretty frequent, dial into an early conference call when there's a delay, or for people who have to pick up kids, get a ride...etc. Stop whining it's 2018 for christsakes.

1) JC List is supposed to be a forum where people can express their opinions.
2) Name calling in no way supports your opinion, makes your argument more substantial or helps in any way to get your point across, and actually makes you look stupid and childish.
3) If you have a problem with someone you have the power to close your eyes, click on another window...etc.
4) Very few new people bother with JC List anymore. I've been on it for about 10 years and now I just check it mostly because it's like a train wreck and I can't seem to look away for long.
5) I don't know any of you and have no vested interest in anyone "winning" an argument. Truthfully I'm over all of you. I'm just expressing an opinon.
6) And again a forum doesn't necessarily need to devolve into an argument.

OK so why is there a housing shortage and not a food shortage or an automobile shortage or clothing shortage?

In the morning the train from Grove to Newark moves like a rocket, there's nobody on it.
I don't do it to get a seat, I couldn't care less about standing, it's having to wait for multiple trains to go by before you get in one.
Not as many people get out at Exchange Place as want to get in. As far as I'm concerned they have it the worst at Exchange Place.
Again, consider trying it.

For WTC commuters shut out at Grove:
Take the Newark train back to Harrison not JSQ. JSQ is frequently as bad as Grove now and Harrison is only 3 minutes away and frequently much more civilized. It's pretty annoying to take the train backward to JSQ and still get shut out of one or two trains. Particularly between 8 and 9am.
