Re: Uber, Lyft, and traffic

Wow, you can afford to live in downtown but you can't afford to tip a driver?! Here is a story of a driver who work 60 hours and only netted $350 (driver does not get vacation time or matching ss wages on that either). Uber won't put a psa since it will be bad for business and the bottomline since they paying for slave labor.

But, to your other complaint, Uber policy is to be cash free and not require tipping - that's the point - so if they want to be like Lyft and offer tipping options, it needs to be on the app. I often have no cash whatsoever on my person. Complaining about customers what it's the brand's policy and/or app that troubles you is misdirected.

So the fact that most of drivers like me were making less than minimum wage and subsidizing your taxi ride is misdirecting my anger? Uber no longer discourages people from tipping so that policy has changed, but the mentality hasn't. Many of the people I took have no problem tipping at a restaurant or tipping a regular cab but when it comes to Uber they don't do it.Only 10% of riders tip on the lyft platform anyway so that mentality has got to change. Uber has also reduce what they pay to driver while upping what they charge the passenger with upfront pricing. Please be a decent human being carry a couple of dollars and tip.

You can tip on a card at a restaurant, you can't with Uber. Like the previous poster, I rarely carry cash as I don't need it. If Uber wanted to encourage tipping, they would easily add it to the app.

If that doesn't work for you, then don't work for Uber.

I already stopped with them but could not stand the fact that I was stuck in traffic on Saturday next to drivers who had the app on and one of the cars was falling apart, they had had to lower standards in order to replace all the drivers who have had enough.

I recommend Galaxy Windows & General Construction LLC, I paid $300 to have the entire window replaced, was fast and easy. I can't believe they are charging you more than $200 to just repair the window!

Uber, Lyft, and traffic

Has anyone notice that the amount of Taxis has gone though the roof along with traffic during rush hour? These apps have made it extremly easy for someone to hail a ride but the traffic has become unbearable. The amount drivers has gone significantly since they reduce the vehicle age requirement to vehicles 2001 or newer instead of 2006 or newer before. The number of cars that can be out at the same time should be controlled because I'm tired of sitting in traffic looking at Uber cars. Open your app and see how many cars you have in your area during rush hour. I did a stint as a driver and stopped after I kept getting paid 3.71 per 25 minute ride and nobody tipped no matter if you gave them treats and excellent service. Enjoy the service but don't forget to tip, many drivers are making less than minimum wage after expenses.

If op is hurt changing the light bulb since it isn't easily accessible, isn't the landlord is on the hook for medical bills? It is in the landlord's best interest to change it, normal lightbulbs that are easily change would be op's problem.

Have you thought of giving up your car and taking public transportation or a taxi service like Uber and Lyft? If you only use your car to do groceries and only go far once in a while, getting rid of your car could be the solution to your parking problems. If you never used Uber, go download the app in the app store or the google play store and use the promotion code jmqwr1c9ue for a free ride (Up to $15). If you never used Lyft, download the app use code JCLISTER for $5 your next 10 rides (Up to $50 of free credit). NJTransit website has a trip planner for you to use for public tarnsportation, or you can use Google Maps to give you directions and transportation options.

The sad thing about this hood it was unpopular just a few years ago, but now people from downtown and NYC have been moving up here, and we also now have a small Hasidim community so shops will be coming soon on MLK and Ocean like bakeries and such

user1111 He/she wants something close to the Path Trains, Bayside park has access to the light rail and will add a little bit of time to the commute and added expense. That "small" hassidic community has bought four properties on my block alone in the last 6 months and they have a complete lock on the foreclosure market in the Greenville/Bergen laffeyette area. The chances of a new buyer like this buying one of the fixer uppers down here is very slim as I had to wait a year to get lucky enough to buy my current property due to heavy competition. And if you haven't checked, $225k is now the listing price for a piece of land in your neighborhood. This right here is a nice house around that area but you have to spend a little bit more to fix it up. http://www.realtor.com/realestateandh ... ity_NJ_07305_M59771-87061

The situation right now in my experience.
Downtown: gentrified and overpriced
Heights: gentrified and overpriced
Greenville: overpriced if it's not a foreclosure, lots of competition if it is, and crime is still a problem for many of the parts east of Jfk.
Journal Square: Buy now if for the right price will only increase in value.
McGinley square: buy now if the price is right, will only increase in value.
Bergen Lafayette: buy now if the price is right, crime a problem in certain areas, low inventory in the good parts.

What did he do for Newark? Just another puppet for corruption. Fulop might have done a little bit more for this city but he's not ready to become governor. And if he does, he's gonna be another Corzine. And he has continued the same pay to play policies of the previous administration in Jersey City. He said he would move to Bergen Laffayette yet he move to the Heights in a part which is as gentrified or even more then Downtown.

The Path is marketed as Jersey City's biggest asset. The reality is it is the biggest liability. Why can't they allow bike access through the tunnels to compensate with random searches to keep the so called "terrorist" threat at bay.

It would be great if someone created an app that told you the GPS location of the next train or bus that you want to take so that you wouldn't have to worry about standing in the cold for half an hour. This would improve ridership as you would know when to go and wait for the bus and be a good selling point for this competition.

I wish they would build an express over the street bike lane bridge in Manhattan and other borroughs so that it could encourage more bicycle use since it would go over the streets and be more like an expressway from north to south. Also a street car system with this type of bridge could work over here too.

Something like this.

Totally agree with you Monroe, Fulop is more concern about running for governor than the residents of his city. You know if Americans get attacked on another nations soil, usually it will help or even take the lead in catching the bad guys. This guy does not care about the residents of greenville.

It is mostly the events, but then again isn't that always the attraction ? Three strong neighborhood associations, a street fair, Live at The Lumberyard, The farmer's market, The Reservoir, Mod Cup coffee, 942 Summit, Yoga in the Park, and many other, places, people, and events. I see more and more bikers cruising the Heights lately as well. The Heights is spread out so you might not catch the "atmosphere" as you would in Billyburg or Downtown J.C. but it's out there.

I find it hilarious that in another post you said you would reject Indian tenants for being Indian but you're advertising your neighborhood food featuring a form of exercise invented by Indians.

Re: UBER - car service in Jersey City

I liked Uber until I found out why it's cheap. Basically the Uber X drivers are underinsured and don't have a TLC license. If an Uber driver gets into an at fault accident carrying a passenger they basically out of luck because Uber only covers if you're not at fault and their personal insurance won't cover it because they were using it for a commercial activity. The PA is issuing drivers tickets because they don't have a TLC license and the fines total to more than $5k so that's why the Uner drivers are scared.
