Just can't stay away

I recall reading Mayor Healy is a diabetic. Googling "Skin Problems in Diabetes", I find the following:
http://diabetes.webmd.com/guide/skin-problems

and perhaps more likely or with a synergistic effect with diabetes: stress, depression and anxiety (i.e. "Hands visibly shaking") can cause skin problems:

Yes, it was clear as the day what you wrote in your original message and your follow up reply quoting such words, vis a vis, << not some "employee" of "John D'Sousa" >>. Hey man, I empathize with you over the traffic light isssue. Really and sincerely. Venting here only helps so much. Still the person who will get it done is Joao D'Souza. The more people who repeatedly follow up with him, the better. He is the man responsible. It took Councilman Fulop several follow up requests, over the course of years, to get the traffic lights on Warren St. Months later after they're finally installed, but still not turned on. (And yes, fwiw, they are yellow). Who else (besides HobRef) has contacted the Director at least once?

Joao D'Souza is the man responsible (see job description). Not the developer.

Call his # and ask to speak to him specifically, reminding him of his job description:

"The Division of Traffic and Transportation Maintenance provides for the maintenance of City traffic signals and street lighting systems and maximizes safety, circulation, and efficiency of City streets."

then you can write how you "personally contacted" Joao D'Souza and not some "employee" of "John D'Sousa".

It's rather simple. Has Healy been charged with anything? No.

Has he come out and denounce those who work for or with him whom have been charged? Absolutely not.

Now ask yourself, why is that? The Governor, right down to the Hudson county exec DeGise to Councilman Fulop have all been outspoken on the issue. One has to be a fool or have their head buried in the sand as to why the Mayor and the remaining Jersey City Council members have been so quiet about such an important issue.

Good point, Bogart. I understand Councilman Fulop's position and need for diplomacy.

However, even if it turns out that Healy himself did not break the law, one thing for sure is he gave his tacit approval for others to do so. like his Deputy Mayor to collect envelopes of cash on his behalf.

Mayor Healy also strongly shot down Councilman Fulop's pay-to-play and one-city-employee salary initiatives. The only rational reason for doing so is to preserve the culture of corruption that continues under his administration. The Mayor has not proposed a single anti-corruption or improved government transparency during his administration.

Additionally, while the Governor is calling for those elected officials whom have been convicted to resign immediately, Mayor Healy thinks it is quite acceptable for Councilman Vega to continue to sit on the City Council. Likewise he has not made any comment (to my knowledge) about his Deputy Mayor. Contrast that with Corzine whom had no trouble dismissing Joe Doria.

Mayor Jerramiah Healy, aka 'Jersey City Public Official 4' has a complete lack of probity. He should do the right thing and step down. He's lost the trust , confidence and good will of the city electorate. Even if found not guilty, his term in office will be ineffectual.

Person responsible for the light

Just can't stay away

If you care enough to write here, you should be more than motivated to call the person responsible for turning on the light. That will be allot more productive and you'll feel better, too. Here is the person and his contact details.

Let's hope there is a good turnout of the mass media for tomorrow's rally and Council meeting. Remember to also congregate behind City Hall as well. That's where the hand in glove folks enter the building.

I filled out the One JC form, but to be honest, I think it is a waste of time as none of the Council members (except Fulop), nor the Mayor read email.

I think a better bet is to call their phone number and voice your discontent at : (201) 547-5000. At least then you'll get *some* feedback.

Or, call the Mayor's Action Bureau
(201) 547-4900/(201) 547-5555.

Thanks for letting me know that this is really not an important issue in a really condescending and uninformed manner.

It has been an important issue for years now. And much to your surprise, it's not mutually exclusive to the other issues surrounding Jersey City. Not that one cannot address multiple issues, anyway.

It is about accountability of elected officials and transparency of government. Much like taking the Mayor of J.C. to task, Governor Corzine completely ignores the requests of his electorate, many of which are completely outspoken on this issue and completely disagree with your assertion. In other words, many folks who care are now voting with their checkbooks for a good cause.

The Governor has his own agenda/initiative to drive home without ANY public input. The descision to build rests squarely in his lap. Hence the lawsuit initiaited by the Friends of LSP, using charitable contributions, i.e. not tax dollars.

There are already 9/11 memorials in Newport and Exchange Place as well as Bayonne and in LSP park itself, ALREADY. Hudson County is the most densely populated and "ungreen" county in the Garden State. What little green space there is, it is being encroached upon. The mound of dirt placed there does look ugly. Before the structure is build, it has already blocked out the skyline as evident when entering the park.

Friends of Liberty State Park has been spending $$$ for legal defense to keep the memorial out of Liberty State Park. This has been their initiative and the chief opponent ultimately is Governor Corzine who refuses to consider the feedback by those whom reside in Jersey City (sound familiar).

Healy on corruption charges
#46

Just can't stay away

When Healy shot down Councilman Fulop's very modest pay-to-play and one city job - one salary proposals, it was beyond apparent that he is part of a cabal of corrupt Jersey City politicians.

It will only be a matter of time when his indicted Deputy Mayor and other "Team Healy" members, which there are plenty of, rat him out to seek lighter sentences. Even if that does not occur, then the door has been left wide open for the State, Feds and IRS to investigate his administration and other Hudson County dealings. In other words, there's plenty of low hanging fruit that is ripe for picking.

The new traffic lights on Warren St are indeed black. I'm not sure about about traffic lights in Exchange Place.

The point is, after it was approved, it has subsequently taken *years* to get lights installed on such street with Councilman Fulop, and others following up regularly with the Director of Traffic and Transportation Maintenance. Now that the lights have finally been installed, years later, despite being wired up weeks ago, they are still not operational.

While you are at it, also complain about the two sets of traffic lights crossing Warren Street, on C. Columbus and Montgomery. They've been ready to go for weeks.
By the way, it took 3 years for Joao D'Souza to put those lights in.

Raising taxes during a deep recession is definitely not the way to go. How about cutting expenditures? Did the city council bother to look in detail at all at the city budget?

Where can one find a copy of the Jersey City budget?

Any wise business man knows that if you go into business, especially a retail business, it's most ideal that you should own the property that you are conducting your business. Actually, it's a fundamental checklist item when starting a new business. I'm sure the La Rustique owner was well aware of this, took a risk and lost out.

I ate at Paulus Hook Pizza this past week and thought the Pizza was very good, if not the same, maybe a little bit better than La Rustique. Notably though, which no one has yet to mention is that there is much more seating available. It's also nicer, too. I was shaded from the sun by the nice green umbrellas. That's definitely a big plus and all the seats were full with a nice lunch time crowd. In short, it's a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

You bring up a good conversation, so as precursor and disclaimer, I'm not trying to nit pick - at least not too much. I agree with most of what you write. I'm also mistaken, giving more thought, what you write is not illogical.

However, the driver as much as he intended to, did not drive the car, so there is no DUI. From the link I provided, public intoxication is not a crime. What then is the JCPD suppose to charge the individual with?

If you use the "guy tripping on his shoe laces" example, then let me take liberty and say perhaps the intended driver was going to commit suicide. That's a felony and then a citizen's arrest is warranted/justified.

Alternatively, if he just let him willingly get in the car and he ended up killing someone or doing property damage $$$, the would-be-good-deeder could be charged as an accessory to a crime. If one thinks that is crazy, it's been done to bartenders. I think I'm done freely speculating.

Anyway, most importantly, I fully agree with: "I'm glad it worked out, glad Tommy did what he did, and hope it doesn't cause him problems."

I'm also disturbed by the apparent lack of charges by the JCPD. If they could have hooked him up, they would have. But they didn't. They took him to the medical center to sober up, which leads me to believe they couldn't find a reason to lock him up, even for public intoxication. Neat and clean for the cops- now the guy probably won't drive, and it's the hospital's problem if he does.

[snip]

Point being you "detained" a guy for 10 minutes. I'm foggy on this, but if I recall my old criminal justice courses correctly, citizen's arrests only work for felonies witnessed by the arrestor- Believe it or not, DWI isn't a felony. It's not even a misdemeanor, unless it's changed over the last 15-20 years- It's in title 39, which is motor vehicle violations, not 2C, which is the NJ criminal code.

Slight criticism: your logic above is a bit illogical, i.e. JCPD non arrest vs. citizen's arrest, or more like detainment.

Furthermore, for what it's worth, it appears the JCPD did the right thing:
