4 corners park on Washington and Grand

Does anyone know what the plans are for the 4 corners park on Washington and Grand? I know there was a fundraiser to clean them up last summer, but wasn't sure if any dates had been set. I'm also curious if they'll ever get the 4th corner back from the school.

I wish they'd hurry up with this project (and address that empty lot across Washington). The combination of those two eye-soars makes that neighborhood look horrible. I try to avoid that route when I have guests in from out of town. Too bad because it has potential to be such a nice area. Sounds like the politics of JC have completely encompassed the neighborhood with red tape. It's a shame really. I bet the residents of the Trump bldg aren't too thrilled with the progress either!

Any guesstimates?

I think it's more like 15-20 times, not 10 (for that area of JC). In NYC it's probably closer to 25 times annual rent.

I think the worst stretch of pavement as far as potholes is concerned is the drawbridge on Rt 7. It's literally a mine field and it's been that way for years now.

Did anyone try the VIP area last year? If so, how was it different than general admission?

Thanks!

York St Tavern is good, especially for NFL games. They have DirecTV and all the games are shown. I'm sure they have a decent amount of college games on as well.

PSU is looking good!!!

I got the exact same ticket as you, in the exact same place. I plead not-guilty and went to court. Be prepared to wait. If you hire an attorney, your case will be settled first. After those cases are settled, the people without attorneys are next. I was there for about 2 or 3 hours since I didn't have an attorney. Oh, and if you plan on fighting the ticket to have it completely removed, you'll have to come back for the trial. The initial court appearance is just for those who wish to accept a plea. They'll knock it down to 2 or 3 points and about $150 or so. All in all I'd say it's worth going, but it's definitely torture.

I just watched a show on discovery about the implosion of a relatively small bridge (about as big as the Bayonne Bridge... nothing even close to the GWB). The setup took about 8 months. During that time, the bridge was extremely dangerous to be near given that any little spark or lightning strike could accidentally trigger a premature explosion. Does anyone really think that the towers were rigged to implode and not one single person noticed? Not one janitor? Not any building engineers? If the buildings were vacant, and you had several fully staffed explosive demolition companies working in coordination, the setup would probably take about a year. This concept that the buildings were imploded is beyond ludicrous. And I'm not someone who refuses to believe the notion that our govt could have helped facilitate the attack (even though I think that's a million to one shot), but the jets are without question the sole reason those towers dropped. Such a ridiculous conspiracy theory. .

Just checked out the website for Canco Lofts. Not a fan. Ugly kitchens, small closets, bad area, etc. I think that's more of an issue than the tax abatement. Not to mention the current housing market.

Towering $877G fine for 'unsafe' worksite

By PAUL KOEPP
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Federal regulators have proposed $877,000 in fines against a concrete contractor at a Downtown Jersey City high-rise construction site where a worker fell to his death in March.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Manhattan-based Broadway Concrete on Wednesday for a multitude of safety violations at 77 Hudson St., a condominium building planned to climb to 48 stories.

In March, a 31-year-old Queens man working as a plasterer died when he fell from the 25th floor of 77 Hudson and landed on the roof of an attached parking garage about 14 stories below.

Last October, a four-alarm blaze engulfed the 17th and 18th floors of 70 Green St., which is connected to 77 Hudson by a parking garage.

OSHA started investigating the company last December after a complaint of hazardous conditions at the site that could lead to falls.

On seven visits over a month, investigators found that Broadway Concrete did not have proper protection to keep its workers from falling from as high as 25 stories, even though the company was warned at each inspection of the safety rules it was breaking, according to an OSHA press release.

The problems included a lack of guard rails, improperly built scaffolds, unguarded utility holes and protruding rebar, said Department of Labor spokeswoman Leni Fortson.

In all, Broadway Concrete racked up 15 "willful violations" totaling $870,000 in fines and two "serious violations" for another $7,000.

Broadway Concrete's site superintendent at 77 Hudson and its vice president were managers at other concrete companies that had violated the same standards, OSHA officials said.

"The many alleged safety violations found at Broadway Concrete's site put employees at great risk for potential injuries or death," said Edwin G. Foulke Jr., assistant secretary of labor for OSHA.

Broadway Concrete owner Robert Cassera, who also owns Tri-State Employment Services, could not be reached for comment. He has 15 business days to contest the penalties.

Calls to the site's general contractor, Hunter Roberts Construction Group, and to the developer of 77 Hudson, K. Hovnanian Homes, were not returned.

I'm assuming that's the concrete company that spilled liquid concrete onto my brand new car from about 40 stories up. My insurance is presently suing them. That construction site is a disaster. I've witnessed about 50 large pieces of lumber getting blown off the building due to high winds in the past 6 months. They've dropped so many things onto Greene St that it's actually been closed on several occassions. Not to mention that my building is now covered in scaffolding until they finish. I feel sorry for anyone in my bldg trying to sell a condo right now. The scaffolding is a big time eyesore!

Buy a condo in Paulus hook for 1500-2000 per month? Not quite. Try 3000-4000 per month. Renting is much cheaper right now as far as out of pocket money is conerned. Not to mention the 100k you'd need up front to purchase a condo.

There are a few condo buildings being planned now near the post office in Paulus Hook. She could probably buy pre-construction soon. As far as existing condo buildings very close to that area, I'd say the Grandview or Montgomery Greene. They're both very close. Expensive neighborhood though.

It's funny you should mention that about the appetizers... when I was there with mygirlfriend, I overheard the couple next to us ordering. They ordered a pizza and a couple appetizers. The waitress told them that the appetizers would probably come out after the pizza. So the woman said, "How about you don't put the pizza order in until after we get the appetizers then?". The waitress looked like she saw a ghost and was both confused and amazed at the brain power behind this idea. She actually said, "Wow, that's a really good idea!". What a moron. Like I said, the pizza isn't bad (before it gets cold), but the rest of the food is horrible.

Yup, the older blonde woman was my waitress. So bad. She messed up our order, but not as bad as she did with the two tables next to us!!! They were furious. Like I said though, the pizza was pretty good. I agree that Bertucci's is better though (and much cheaper). Just a little harder to get too for me.

The pizza was great, but they should keep a candle under it or something after putting it on the table. It gets cold quick since it's suspended in mid air by that tray holder. The other food we had was just so so (meatballs, sausage, etc). Our waitress was awful. Overall, I'd say it's a great addition to the neighborhood though.

I heard good things about the Ale House and tried it out about a year ago. Terrible food, mediocre service, odd crowd, and crummy atmosphere. The bars in Paulus Hook are 1,000 times better. Not sure why so many people like (liked) the Ale House. A mystery to me.

I stopped by the sales office this weekend. The building won't be done for 3 years! That really sucks for all of the nearby residents who are going to have to deal with the construction for that long. Also, the sales rep told me that pricing hasn't really been set yet, but they're expecting to list the condos at $750-$1000 per sq ft!!! That's insane! You can buy a luxury condo in NYC for that much. Should be interesting to see how this plays out. I just hope they bring some nice new retail into the neighborhood.

Here is a rendering of the towers. Pretty good looking actually. They'll blend in well with the Goldman bldg....

Has anyone noticed that when you submit a bad review for a bar or restaurant on kannekt.com it often doesn't get posted? All of my positive reviews have been posted though. Why is that? Do you think they're taking kickbacks from the business owners? I'm skeptical about that site now.
