Ummm...I never said the park was owed by the PA, just the area immediately around the station. Newport security has no business there.

The small park by the dog run is owned by the PA. I know this by all the PA signs in the park. They own this land because it is directly above the Holland Tunnel.

Newport the private developer owns the park surrounding the Newport PATH known as Commuter Park. It is private property subject to rules and this information is posted in the park. I believe the sidewalk surrounding the glass enclosed PATH station is owned by the Port Authority. But the park and the sidewalks through the park are definitely private property.

The other small park next to the Newport dog run is owned by the City Of Jersey City. In Newport there are several streets, sidewalks and parking meters that are private property.

Who do you think owns the station? Lefrak? Come on. The PA also owns the "park" next to the dog run by Duane Reade. You can tell since it only gets mowed about once every six months.

Are you insane? Just because other forms of mass transit are bad doesn't make PATH nirvana.

I have riden PATH now for 12 years and it continually gets worse. In all this time PATH has NEVER increased service. Never. Every time a new schedule comes out, service is being reduced. The JSQ to 33 via HOB on the weekends was only temporary while the 9/11 memorial was being built. Well, it's been done for a couple of years and PATH will never go back. They are the worst!!!

Thanks, but they're not trying to bill themselves as long term rentals. They can be booked like a normal hotel room on hotels.com, booking.com, etc. With AirBNB, you know you're staying in someone's apartment. These people are making it seem like you're in a hotel. As more and more of these pop up, the less apartments are available to be rented. This is just wrong.

I'm sure by doing this is a violation of the apartment's lease, but I guess Lefrak, etc just look the other way since they are getting their money.

I'm concerned that by reducing the available apartments like this will only drive up rents.

Feel free to check it out. An example of one ?hotels? is called Sky City.

I am pretty sure there is a thread on this from some time ago. Those "hotels" operate in a pseudo gray zone. I believe they are usually rented out as short term, fully furnished apartments. Think of professionals who need to be in town, or the region, for a few weeks at a time. They are great solutions for companies who need to have executives or high level employees coming and going and for whom they want to provide housing without the cost of a hotel, and with the re-assurance of a well-appointed property that is well managed.

One local player with fairly good amount of such apartments is Furnished Quarters. This is their site: Furnished Quarters website.

Whether legal or not, I have no idea. It seems like a legit business. As for whether or not it is good for the local market, I can see how it could drive up prices in DTJC, but prices in DTJC are already super high because it is a red hot market and people are flocking here.

I am not sure what it is that people expect in terms of development and gentrification, but it seems to be "I want JC to become nicer, for more people to come, but not too nice that too many people come, and definitely not too many rich people so prices don't get out of control". With gentrification we are going to get higher property values, increased population and enhanced amenities.

The sense of entitlement on this board is a joke. It's no secret the Port Authority sucks but that goes way deeper than PATH trains. I'm so sorry you have to ride a 10 min crowded train, cry me a river. Better yet, take a ferry, uber or drive. Otherwise get over it.

If the PATH and Jersey City are so doomed, do us all a favor and move. If any of you clowns think that the trains in Brooklyn or Queens are any better, then the joke is on you. Pick a day and try to ride the L, F,4,5,6,A,C,1 just to name a few. The L from Williamsburg is so packed it makes the PATH look empty. Same goes for the F train that also manages to break down every day. The A/C are so crowded and dirty, it makes our WTC line seem clean. Not to mention the A/C will be shut down for weekends for the next year for Sandy repairs. Sound familiar?

WTC line is back on weekends, and the ferry is continuing so the options to get into the city on weekends actually just improved. When the 33rd line gets shut down at some point next year on weekends, it will definitely be inconvenient. The silver lining is WTC hub will finally be open and we'll be able to connect indoors to just about every subway line via the Fulton Hub. So the temporary headache will really not be that big of a deal in the long run. The work needs to be done so deal with it or leave. Complaining on a little message board won't accomplish anything.

Well, it seems the Port Authority does monitor these boards.

I hate to say it, but PATH isn't doomed and they know it. People will still be living here and the population is just going to keep going up. It's cheaper to live here and the PA knows the trains will be full. They don't care if we're crammed in like sardines. I really doubt they ride the trains. I'm sure they've figured out what interval to run the train so even though it's packed, everyone gets on. They know there aren't many affordable alternatives.

Agreed this more than just Teddy.

However, I have a much different view of him. One day, a few years ago on a weekend, I was on the train coming from 33rd street and we were doing the turn around at Hoboken. While we were waiting for the train to depart, Teddy comes on and is getting set up to start his con. Another guy who is standing next to him realizes that the jabber is about to begin and he lets out a sigh. Teddy hears him and starts going off. Starts getting into it with the guy about how he has a right to be on the train, etc. What a jerk.

As far as shutting down the 33rd street line, I don't see why they would have to do this. During the overnight, the trains run every 35 minutes. They only cross paths in Hoboken. So, that means they only need one tube to run the trains from Hoboken to 33. They can just go back and forth on the same track all night long leaving the other track open so they can do their work. They can work on it every single night seven days a week. Will they do this? Oh, hell no. They'd much rather inconvenience thousands of people instead.

Also, with the upgraded signals, that means they can run the trains more frequently. Will, they do this? Oh, hell no...again. I have been riding this system for 12 years and every time there is a new schedule, there has always been a reduction in service. Not once....NOT ONCE....has there been an increase in the frequency of service. At least 12 years PATH has been doing this. They just keep crammin' us in and raising the fares.

Also, the weekend JSQ to 33 train going through Hoboken was billed as a temporary thing while the 9/11 memorial was being built.

Did you see the PATH alert that this Sunday that the JSQ-33 via HOB train will be on a 20 minutes schedule until 3pm? Really? Since they went to a 12 minute schedule, people are being left behind at the stations because there is no room. Really PATH???? You increase fares and then keep dropping service. #PATHetic

Just FYI...the fares for PATH increase to $2.75 on Wednesday. So, if you have a smartlink card, you should really max it now before the fares go up. I believe the maximum you can put on the card is 140 trips.

No. I would have used the ferry it was even close to being competitive with PATH. Right now I can get in and out of NYC and use MTA and PATH for the same cost as a one way trip on the ferry. I don't know about you, but I'm not independently wealthy.

So why do they still have it over at Paulus Hook, where there is also a PATH station nearby? (at least, one that operates on weekdays)

Furthermore, while the Newport ferry stop never seemed all that busy in the morning, it was always very busy in the evenings, with people going both directions (people heading back home to Newport from Manhattan, and people headed back to Manhattan from Newport).

What irks me the most is that the news media isn't even reporting this at all. This at least deserves a short news story. It's like New York Waterway has paid everyone to keep their mouths shut about it (not claiming they did). I did here back from the Jersey Journal and the Jersey City Independent when I contacted them about it, but I have yet to see anything on their websites.

I always see a lot of traffic coming on and off the PH Ferry. I can't speak to the one in Newport.

I imagine a lot of Goldman employees, among others use the PH ferry. I know AIG at least used to cover the fare for employees to commute between the their downtown NYC office to their JC office.
