I highly recommend Liberty Physical Therapy in downtown JC (http://www.libertyptnj.com). I underwent PT treatment with Chitra and team last year and was extremely satisfied with their personal service and professionalism. You can check our their Yelp reviews for more information.

kokomas, sorry to hear you also felt victim to MVC not sending you the registration renewal on the mail. Consensus so far is that some JC residents are still getting the registration renewal by mail while others are not, and for the unlucky ones MVC will not provide a reasonable explanation for no longer sending the renewals.

My court appearance is this coming Monday for the two "violations" I am charged with.

Morale of the story: Keep an eye on your car registration (and vehicle inspection) expiration dates, do not rely on the renewal coming by mail to remind you.

Just wanted to rely our positive experience at Riverside Medical group. My husband has been sick with a bad cold and painful sore throat. We called the Riverside Medical group this past Saturday around 8 am and were able to schedule an appointment that same morning. Giana, the office assistant, was very courteous and helpful over the phone.
The building has an indoor public parking garage which makes it very convenient for people who need to drive to the medical office. The parking ticket also gets validated at the office, so free parking for patients.
Dr. Taubman was very attentive and caring during her medical examination. She got my husband some prescriptions submitted electronically to the local Duane Reade pharmacy at Grove Street, which expedited the process by the time we made it to the pharmacy.

All in all, great service and great location!

Re: Traffic Attorney in Jersey City

chrisjersey,

There seems to be a big disconnect between Motor Vehicle Commission and Jersey City Municipal Court. I reported an incident in JCList last week regarding a Court letter I got in the mail with a "rescheduled Court Date" for two violations regarding my expired car registration. The fact of the matter is that I never received the car registration renewal notice by mail this year, neither did I receive a a ticket by mail from MVC and a letter from the JC Municipal Court with the original Court Date. You can refer to my posting in JCList last week documenting this matter:

http://jclist.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30804

I'd like to find out who to complain about MVC not mailing ticket notices and the Court not sending Court Date communications in a timely fashion. Are they just trying to cash in more money from JC residents by intentionally not sending the letters in advance? Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Hi PathH8Tr,

As the MVC Clerk told me this morning in person, the car registration renewals are no longer being sent by mail (thereby the reason for my posting this message to convey the word and make you aware of it) which requires going to the MVC office in person to renew the registration. Some people are posting in this thread that they are still getting their renewal notices by mail (like I used to get up until last year), while others are not. So yes, it is confusing to say the least!!

Appreciate the further responses and clarifications... so I am not alone on this boat... oh well.

Nope, I don't have a P.O. Box and I haven't changed address in the last 7 years. We should find out what's the scheme here is...

Thanks for the replies... well, my renewal never came in the mail and the MVC Clerk confirmed with great confidence that I will not be getting renewals by mail anymore. I will stop by the MVC office next time I am in the neighborhood (for my Court case) and confirm their statement... this is just not acceptable.

Car registration renewal - Warning
#42
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I just wanted to inform the forum readers about the fact that Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) is no longer sending the car registration renewal notice by mail, at least for Jersey City residents. So please check your car registration expiration date; you will need to renew in person at the MVC office, there are no more renewal notices coming in the mail, and apparently there is no option to renew by mail or online, according to what the Clerk happily told me at the MVC office in Summit Avenue. However, the State of NJ MVC website provides different information in this regard, check it out:

http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Vehicle/RegistrationRenewal.htm

Not sure when this change took effect. But I learned the hard way yesterday, after getting a Legal Notice from the Jersey City Municipal Court with a Court citation rescheduled to Feb. 2014 for two violations encrypted in codes "39:3-4" and "39:6-55b". Later learned that they mean "Driving Unregistered Vehicle" and "Failure to Return License or Registration". The fact of the matter is that my registration had indeed expired at the end of September and I hadn't realized about this "violation", since I was actually counting on the registration renewal coming by mail from the MVC like it had happened in previous years. My car was screened while parked on the street in early November and all I got was the Court citation in the mail (no ticket, no warning, no further explanation).

I immediately renewed my car registration in person this morning (almost in panic mode) but I will still need to show up in Court in February and present paperwork of car registration renewal, etc., as they consider this "a serious violation", according to what the Court clerk explained to me over the phone (go figure!). I would probably agree if I had deliberately and intentionally decided to drive with an expired registration, which was, of course, not the case. Part of my forgetfulness is that I occasionally drive my car (weekend errands, mostly).

So make sure to record in your calendars the month of your car registration renewal and get a reminder to plan your visit to your nearest MVC office to renew in person.

Well, I haven't been at Left Bank Burger Bar yet although I walk by this place every single day (not really a burger fan myself)... but all I can say is that, regardless of the quality of their food, how it compares with other burger places, how the decor looks, how it smells, etc, etc... this place always has a very good crowd, at least in the evenings. The former It's Greek To Me could have only dreamed of having such crowds on such a regular basis!

So burgers are definitely popular and looks like this place will always attract customers... and it also gives me the impression that many of them may not even read JCList postings!

Pebble , as far as I am concerned, soup dumplings cannot be frozen given that they have the broth inside. They are quite delicate. Please do not confuse soup dumplings with the other regular dumplings, whch have a thicker dough and can certainly be bought frozen.

Already went twice to this restaurant last week! First time I went with a group of 4 Chinese female friends from work, who were a tough crowd to judge the restaurant. They took care of ordering different dishes to share at the table (loved to hear them all speak Mandarin with the wait staff, it certainly expedited the whole ordering process). We started with the two varieties of soup dumplings they have as part of the "dim sum" menu. The soup dumplings were fantastic, better than the ones served as Grand Sichuan. We also tried one of the rice cake dishes (with chicken), a noodle soup with scallions, a spicy dish with fried pork, and steamed bok choy. For dessert we ordered couple of different baked pastries, one of them filled with red bean paste which were delicious. We found everything to be very tasty, my friends said that most of the dishes we tried were pretty authentic shanghainese. Service was decent considering they had been opened for just few days and that it got really busy during lunch time. Something to note was that few of the dishes listed in the menu were not yet available last week, but could not find out which ones were those...

I took my husband for dinner on Friday and, of course, had to order the soup dumplings again (so addictive!); we then shared a vegetable noodle soup and the chicken dish with bamboo shoots... again, very pleased with all the dishes and the flavors, so we will certainly be going back.

Also keep in mind that their "dim sum" menu divert quite a bit from the popular Cantonese dim sum that you find in Chinatown, etc. But it is still worth a try.

Re: Police warn of con artists preying on Jersey City residents

Well, common sense tells me that, in the event I ever get a call from one of these con artists alleging they have kidnapped a family member, they'd better get ready for an exhaustive interrogation on my part for the "artist" to provide every bit of detail about the kidnapped "victim"... to the point where the caller will just give up and realize I am not falling for the prank.

A similar type of scam actually happened to me but via Facebook. A friend of mine got her FB account hacked and the perpetrator started contacting people from her list of friends via FB chat messaging, pretending to be in London, having lost her purse, being in a public library for access to the internet and asking for money to be wired to her... oh boy, did I have a blast interrogating this hacker!!!

DO NOT EVER wire money to anyone that contacts you in situations like this, just report it to the police. It is sad to see how many people still fall for these scams...

Re: Zumba Classes in Downtown JC?

Lisa teaches a wonderful Zumba class at Grassroots Community Space 3 days/week. The only drawback is that the studio ?s not air conditioned, so it can get pretty hot in the summertime. But I recommend you try her class!

Lisa has also started a Sunday morning Zumba class (8-9am) at Liberty House Restaurant in Liberty State Park that will be running through Labor Day weekend. It's a nice location on the water with great views of Manhattan, and there is free parking (up to 2 hours). Fee is $10.

If you are interested in zumba classes several times a week, you may want to consider a membership at Club H. They offer zumba classes 7 days a week in addition to several other group classes. It might be more cost effective to consider the gym membership in that case (it turned out to be considerably cheaper than paying drop-in fees for group classes).

Just my 2 cents, hope it helps...

Also to confirm that there is no extra charge to hold your FedEx package/envelope at one of the local FedEx locations. But, of course, you will need to bring your FedEx slip to claim your package at the chosen location.

For whatever it is worth, if you miss a FedEx delivery and can't be home during the day to wait for the package, you can request the package to be dropped off at one of the FedEx locations around our area (all this can be done online as long as you have the tracking number). I happened to run into this situation recently, unable to be home to receive the package. I found out there is a FedEx location at 10 Exchange Place (next to the PATH train station at Exchange Place on the Montgomery side)... this turned out to be VERY convenient to me for pick-up purposes since it is close to work. And they will retain the package at the FedEx location for about 5 business days. So check it out.

Garbage collection is simply "umpredictable" in JC. Careless service for the most part, you can tell when the garbage truck passed by to "supposedly" pick up the trash when you notice all the trash left scattered on the street.

On several times, I have submitted report and pictures of uncollected trash by my street to the JCIA via the JC's Online Help Center website:
(http://mygovhelp.com/JERSEYCITYNJ/_cs ... CEALNAAHTZCJZRGNEJMPWUHMR).

They have actually responded consistently to the trash pick up requests (when they are not on furloughs). I would encourage residents to do the same with the hope that JCIA gets the message on their poor trash pick up service. I always wonder why it is SO difficult for this agency to simply do a decent job!

Gotta say, we are also celebrating the new bakery in the neighborhood! I tried those chocolate almond croissants and they are absolutely delicious and addictive. My favorite pizzas are from Bertucci's in Newport area, they use good quality ingredients and are more on the "healthier" side. The crust is always great and they offer very interesting flavors not found in many other pizza places.

If you are looking for very greasy pizza this may not be the place for you.
