Got one.

But I'm not telling.

For the record it *is* possible to walk to Newark from JC and not by using any major roadways...

Once again a GREAT JCList thread.

140,000+ people died immediately during the attack on Hiroshima. ONE HUNDRED FORTY THOUSAND. Practically instantaneously. The city was basically wiped off the map.

Countless more died from after effects.

You compare JC to Hiroshima?

I suppose by that measure Bayonne is Dresden?

Actually, in some smaller departments there is MORE scrutiny because there are in fact fewer jobs to go around. I suggest you go out and apply to some local, county, state, and federal agencies and report back to us in a couple of months.

Nice argument RJ.

Are you really this clueless, insensitive, and thoughtless, or do you just play the part online?

+1 nikki.

"Quirks"? "Demographics"? "Reasonable views about grocery stores?"

Hitler loved dogs and children. I don't think I would've wanted to discuss the relative merits of Alsatian vs Rhine cuisine with him, though.

On the other hand, he also had sweeping visions for the city of Berlin- too bad he is not still around to help us out with remaking Newark Ave.

Man.

I believe NJ law is vague on the issue of blade length; also, it is ambiguous (peppered with phrases like "for a lawful purpose") which basically allow the police to arbitrarily decide whether or not you are carrying something they can charge you for. I don't have those laws handy at the moment but they're pretty easy to find on the state's website.

Great post and please accept my heartfelt and sincere thanks for your service.

I don't know about this program's current administration (i.e. whether it is still the good program it was in the past) but a place to start is:

www.anysoldier.com

And of course, the long tradition of www.uso.org is well known.

Because I like consistancy in government. Because I think it's important that elected officials do the right thing. Because I think if a government says they're going to do something, they should do so.

And because not everything needs to be a block of antiseptic towers and ESPN Fun Zones.

GrovePath, I am curious as to why you seem to have a fetish for singling out this one particular breed of dog for fear-mongering.

Did one kick sand in your face and steal your girl?

Irrespective of irresponsible dog owners (which I hate), and lax enforcement by the city (which I also hate), I find it odd that you never post stories about rottweilers, german shepherds, chiahuahas, or dingos eating babies.

GP you still owe me money from that David Murray bet.

And once again- "SEMI-automatic" means one pull and release of the trigger fires ONE round. The press always loves to use "semiautomatic" to imply that people are roaming the streets with machine guns.

Two questions to the Councilman:

1. When you say you want to eliminate multiple pensions- what do you mean, per se? My former Father in Law drew multiple pensions because, over the course of his career, he worked (non-concurrently) for multiple state and county agencies (in a different county). Of course as I mentioned, he did not hold multiple positions at the same time- he was with the State Police for a period of time, and then with a county law enforcement body.

2. What is the process for gathering these signatures? Provided I agree with the text of the resolution (which I admittedly have not seen yet), I would be interested in at least signing.

While I generally agree with your post, Justi, two points-

1. Closest unit is supposed to respond first.

2. Standard Operating Procedure in any *decent* caliber PD is to verbally and visually (i.e. "badge") identify yourself to anyone on the scene, whether you think they're a suspect or a victim, particularly if the responding officers are plaintclothes. There are as many legal reasons as practical ones for doing so.

Hindsight is 20/20 and since I wasn't in any of these peoples' shoes at the time, I'll reserve judgement until more details emerge.

"In certain areas, even in Jersey City, gangs have taken over areas," Manzo said. "They (the National Guard) are going to come in with heavy infantry and they are going to take the scum off the streets and put them in jail cells where they belong.

Brilliant. We probably need tanks as well. I can see comparisons between Manzo and Patton, Napoleon, etc... now. Most innovative strategy since maneuver warfare.

Quote:

Guards at the Jersey City Armory said Manzo's idea could backfire.

"Going into the streets with our M-16s (rifles), in full uniform, is only going to provoke gang members to step up and show what they got," said Spc. Leonel Colon. "I'd do it, but I'm just saying that's what would happen."

Specialist Colon should do more pushups and less talking to the media.

Re: Brunswick & Eighth: Homes threatened with collapse -- caused by demolition of adjoining buildings

2 buildings on my block were condemned due to damage caused by the laying of under-pinning for Columbus Plaza.

While they were tearing them down, I'm convinced they were damaging my building as well (there's a thread about this somewhere).

I called the police because my building was literally shifting a good 3" back and forth as the demolition was going on. They sent out an officer who did... nothing.

Lesson?

THIS CITY DOESN'T GIVE A FLYING #OOPS# AS LONG AS PILOTS KEEP FLOWING INTO THEIR POCKETS.
