I recall earlier this year while watching a basketball game at the tilted kilt I sat next to and talked to a guy who said he was opening a bar on Newark ave and it would be called monty's bar. He was probably in his 30's and had some big ideas for the place. He kept going on and on about what he wanted to do and kept saying that he doesn't care how much money he spends as long as its done right because jersey city needed something like this. maybe this is the reason why it's taking so long.....but then again he had about 7 or 8 jameson on the rocks in the hour I was talking to him.

a sign has been put up on the soul flavors window saying "coming soon: taqueria downtown catering co."

http://www.seeninjerseycity.com/2013/10/sign-at-soul-flavors.html

Anyone have any information about this? Would it be the same owners as the taqueria on grove?

so it looks like we're on the same block so why not have them get off at newport instead of grove st?

You can meet them at the path and take them around the newport waterfront for a detour or make them walk through the mall then bring them to hamilton park. at least it'll show them how close everything is to where you live. then you can walk towards newark ave, VPP, liberty harbor etc to get something to eat and then when they leave they can just get on the grove st path...

I would suggest looking at craigslist:

I recommend responding to an ad as soon as possible if you see something you like. Apartments in jersey city seem to go by fast these days.

Dr. Gerard at Metrovet

201 Marin Blvd #2a Jersey City, NJ 07302
(201) 589-0838

Excellent service and cheaper than the other vets in the DTJC area. Plus if you want to board your pet, they also work with Club barks since their offices are connected.

I just wanted to follow up with this since I just brought my dog here.

So as the website suggested, I called the place the other day to make an appointment. The woman who answered the phone, I believe her name was Maria, was very polite and was able to make my appointment pretty fast. She just asked the general information about my dog and what kind of service he would need, which was just to get updated vaccinations. She mentioned that the vet is only available Mon-Wed-Fri till 8 PM, which to me is pretty convenient considering I don't get home from work till almost 6.

When I came in for my appointment, I realized that MetroVet was the same place as Club Bark just as people had mentioned here before. I was greeted almost instantaneously by the two people working upfront for Club Bark. They were very friendly and was able to answer all my questions about the place, the vet, boarding, etc... As soon as I filled out my paper work (since it was my dogs first time there), I was able to meet with Dr. Gerard immediately. She by far is the best Vet I've ever been to. She did not make me feel rushed or try to offer any unnecessary things. She examined my dog very thoroughly to make sure he was healthy and gave him his shots without hurting my dog or making him feel scared. She was also able to answer all my questions and also reassured me that every time I bring him in, she would be my Vet. Unlike the downtown vet on 1st street where it like you get a different vet each time you go in.

Now to the best part...the bill. After coming from downtown vet, I was really expecting an outrageous bill. When I received the bill, I was pretty much surprised. It was $50 for the consultation/examination, $30 for 3 yr rabies shot, $20 for 1 yr distemper shot, $5 for disposal. With tax the total bill was $109.

This is EXTREMELY cheap compared to downtown vet. I remember they charged somewhere between $75-$100 for the examination alone! They would also try to make me get other things and make me feel like I'm being rushed out of there.

Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone. The place is very clean and the entire staff is very helpful, caring, and friendly.

Anyone here bring their pets to the new MetroVet on 201 Marin Blvd?

I was told by someone in the Hamilton Park Dog Park that this place is better and cheaper than the downtown Vet place on 1st St.

I tried looking for reviews online but there aren't any.

I completely agree that people need to start obeying the rules. I'm a dog owner myself and bring my dog to hamilton park daily. There are a few people that constantly go to the park with their dogs unleashed and act like they are better than everyone else. It's really annoying.

For example there's this older guy who brings his dog to the park around 630 am every day. He has a pretty big brown dog and let's him off leash around the park all the time. As soon as he walks out of the park, he puts the leash on. I just don't understand.

There's also this younger guy with a small white dog named zoey who goes to the park around 9 pm. The guy kicks around a soccer ball on the grass literally right next to the big dog run, while his dog roams around freely. Now my problem with this guy is that while he kicks his stupid ball, his dog has come up to my dog (who is leashed) on several occasions. The guy says his dog is friendly but sometimes mine isn't. What happens if my dog bites his unleashed dog? He's probably going to say its my fault and expect me to pay for the vet bill. I've seen someone confront him and the guy totally flipped out as if he did nothing wrong.

There's also this big dog named Frankie who sometimes gets off leashed at the park and the guy who lives on 8th street at the corner of the park with the white dog. That guy is always playing frisbee with his dog.

The list goes on and on... The sad thing is I've seen all these owners get confronted and all react like assholes. There'a a dog park for a reason.

from 430 - 630 the path runs every 5 minutes

from 630 - 915 the path runs every 10 minutes

how about you stop complaining, learn what's going on in your neighborhood, and plan ahead.

besides, do you really think JC is going to listen to this complaint when they got better things to worry about.

I always end up going to Cohen's Optical in Newport mall and never had a problem. The woman optometrist (not sure if there's more than one) was very awesome and I would definitely recommend her. They also have coupons online, which they will honor. If you're going for a contact exam, it's a bit more.

Also, don't go on the weekends as they tend to get a lot of walk-ins and you'll be waiting for hours.

Thanks for the reponses.

i have called the board of public utilities several times. Each time i have to explain the situation and each time they say they will contact PSEG to get things straightened out. It just seems like no matter who I talk to, either PSEG or the Board, no one seems to care much and it's been very frustrating having to waste a minimum of an hour each time I call.

The only person that really seems concerned is my superintendent. The landlord basically makes him do everything, from taking out the trash to fixing things in the building. He asked every time what's the situation like and I tell him nothing yet.

The super told me the previous tennant that lived in my apartment was there for at least 9 years. Based on the mail I still get, it looks like 3 people lived in the apartment. All that time those people lived there they never complained about the utilities, maybe because they were splitting the bills. I live on my own so the high bill was very noticable to me. Also the tennant below me who lives in the duplex has been there for over 10 years, so I don't blame him for not wanting to deal with this since there's never been a complaint from the previous tennant about paying the wrong meter.

utilities issues . landlord does not want to help

Hello all. I recently moved in to my apartment in DTJC in December 2012. The rent is reasonable for a 1 floor one bedroom and based on my lease, I am responsible for the utilities (gas and electricity).

In January '13 I received my first utility bill and was shocked by the amount I was being charged for gas considering I did not use heat at all of December. I had a hunch that I was paying for the wrong gas meter so I called PSEG regarding the situation. They sent a tech over to investigate the situation and found that the gas meter that is under my account is indeed wrong. The tech was also able to locate the correct gas meter that records the gas going to my apartment. Unfortuantely the tech was unable to determine where the gas meter that is under my account should go to, but we were 99% sure that it was for the apartment below me, which is a duplex. The tennant below me was not there at the time so the tech was unable to fix my account. The tech said that he needed access to the other apartment to make the correction so he tried several times after the first visit to get in touch with the other tennant.

Unfortunately the other tennant never responded to PSEG's notes left on his door. I tried to get my landlord to assist in this matter, but he doesn't want to be involved and said the meters belong to PSEG and that I'm responsible for the utilities, so I have to handle it. With that being said, since the tennant never responded, PSEG's recommendation was to request to turn off my gas on my account, so that when they shut off the gas, the other tennant would lose his gas forcing him to call PSEG to complain.

I followed with their recommendation and the other tennant did lose their gas and he complained. He called PSEG to get his fixed and when they came they tried to fix the gas meter under his account, which is supposed to be mine. PSEG thought it was a faulty meter, so they replaced it with a brand new meter. After the replacement I guess they noticed the tennant still did not have gas. So they turned on the meter that had been shut off (the one that is incorrectly under my account) and saw that it went to the other tennants apartment. Since they did not know where the brand new meter was going to, they shut of the gas service, which shut off my gas.

When this happened I was forced to call PSEG to turn back on my gas service. When the tech came, they assure me that once they turn it back on and record it, everything should be fixed because all the lines are traced now and that PSEG billing should be able to credit me now and bill me for the correct meters. I was assured this by the tech, a person in PSEG billing, and even the NJ state department in which i filed a complaint with.

This has been going on for months now and my account has yet to be fixed. PSEG is claiming that they still need access to the other persons apartment, but i don't understand why when everything should be traced now. I am paying for the bill because I don't want to ruin my credit and now i estimate that PSEG owes me at least $500 bucks. The other tennant doesn't want to cooperate, so approaching him seems impossible and it's not really my place to do so. My landlord is being a complete tool and everyone in PSEG just doesn't seem to really care.

Any of you have any advice on what I should do next.
